I do not yet possess the technical expertise to do a review on the performance of this device , as I am just delving into learning about Fiber Optics. It may be some item before I can comment on that aspect of this unit. What i can comment on is the kit itself and the build quality. The reason i ordered the specific kit to get started was the quantity and styles of the different adapters and cables. Since I am not sure which direction i will be pursuing, I needed to have something that had a decent selection. This met that criteria. I also wanted some form of case to keep it all together. Checked that box too. The other was build quality. I read a lot of reviews that said this one was built solid and good value for the money. This too turned out to be true. It feels good and solid in your hand. Has nice finishes and is assembled very well. I am hoping this will be the first of many new toys i obtain for my adventure into fiber optics.

I got this because I wanted to confirm that a flaky splitter was indeed broken - yes it was (see photos of good and bad cables). What you get: The emitter itself, 3 adapter patch cables and 5 smaller adapters, belt holder, carrying case. The emitter needs two AA batteries, not supplied. It has a 2.5mm ferrule with a safety/protection cover that snaps securely in place and flips out so you shouldn't lose it. The switch is simple enough - push forward for on, middle position is off, back is blinking. At 50mW the laser is bright enough to help troubleshoot short cables in full daylight and longer ones in the dark. All the adapters are UPC (blue connector). If your equipment uses APC then you can gently plug in as shown in my photo, or provide your own adapter if you want to be super careful. At the sub-$60 price point I am super happy with this item.

This comes in a very nice zipper case that holds the tool but also holds the 3 test fibers and the 5 adapters. There is room in the case for a few additional things if needed. Also inside the zipper case there is a smaller Velcro case to hold the tool and that should protect the on/off switch from accidently turning on when not in use. Initial testing with it revealed a fiber defect that was not yet impacting data flow but clearly could in the future. Another similar tool has failed to function each time I went to use it because the battery was dead, apparently from accidently being turned on while in the tool box. I think that this one will avoid that issue because of the way the 2 cases work together to protect it. Both tools are of the same on/off switch design but different brands and different cases.

I got this to help diagnose issues with fiber connections. Most of mine are LC ends but I do have a couple SCs and others. This has all the common ends, so you can test most types of cable. It's very bright, so for most cables you can see if there is an internal blockage or break since it'll be glowing through the casing - the exception would be ones that have shielding or outer coatings (like some direct-burial or inside-the-wall types). Just keep that exception in mind and you'll be fine. If you're not sure if the problem is your SFP compatibility, your fiber cable, or something else, this can easily help narrow that down without having to replace everything.

This product came with a nice little case and all the various connector types for SC, ST, LC, and other fiber connection options. The laser has three settings, on, off, and flashing mode. This makes identifying floor to floor fiber tray runs a breeze and takes away the guess work when connecting these fiber jumps. I no longer have to use a flashlight to simulate a strobe so my co-workers can see if they can find my fiber connectors!

It works and outputs a ton of light (not like a laser pointer, against a wall it spreads out a ton so it is useless as a long range ordinary laser like I was honestly hoping). I lower the rating because the on and off switch is the only issue, but is really bad. Almost no tactile feel and a weak "hold" when you leave the switch in position, so you have to very carefully toggle it in the middle of two power-on options to turn it off. Horrible design. The accessories are nice and seemed to work fine, but hooking it up to the included fiber optic cable revealed light leakage around the entrance, and I don't really like having to look at that considering how much laser light is involved here. Maybe it was me not being a technician that makes the difference in usage, but it seems suboptimal to me.

This is a nice fiber optic kit complete with test jumpers and adapters that all fits into a nice zippered case that is black with red trim. This 50 mw visual fault locator does not come with the needed pair of AA batteries, but that's not a bad thing, I am just letting potential buyers know. The VFL has excellent manufacturing quality and feel in one's hand. This would be a nice kit for beginners plus it is suitable for gifting to someone new to working with fiber optic network cabling. As far as value for the money is concerned, I feel it is a bit overpriced for what you receive, so I took a star off for that.

I’ve been using this VFL kit for a few days now, and it’s been a solid tool for quick fiber diagnostics. The 50mW red light is bright and easy to see, even in daylight, which makes spotting breaks or bad connections a breeze. I really appreciate how it comes with multiple adapters and patch cords—it’s basically plug-and-play for most setups. The build quality is decent, and the compact size makes it easy to carry around in my tool bag. Battery life has been good so far, and the low battery warning is a nice touch. It’s also great that it works with both single-mode and multi-mode cables. If you work with fiber regularly or even just occasionally, this kit is a great value for the price.
