Short version: Plug and Play. It works great. Longer version: For the past five years, we had the same model router rented from Verizon. (I'm not crazy, at the time--weirdly--this was actually cheaper than owning. Something with discounts.) It worked great, then lightning struck nearby, and that was the end of it. Routers are apparently susceptible to this. Got a replacement from Verizon, which also worked great, but that was the moment that I realized renting was no longer cheaper for me than owning. So I'm looking at all these fancy routers everyone is recommending, and then it dawned on me that this particular model router worked brilliantly for five years, and we, easily, have 15 appliances on wifi. I also own two Verizon extenders (the upstairs and basement) so I checked the specifications for those, and it turned out these were made specifically for this model router. So why change models? After this $80 refurbished one arrived, it was immediately clear it had seen little use--if any at all. I disconnected the rented router, plugged each cable into the same slot, started it up, and 10 minutes later we were off to the races with wifi equally strong as before. We have Verizon FIOS 1GB. The house has three stories, and closes in on 4000 square feet. Our lot is half an acre with the house in the middle. Wherever I am in our house or yard, I have excellent wifi. ... show more

My goal was to stop paying monthly rent for the FioS modem/router so I went with a “Renewed” (refurbished) unit and it has been a good experience. It was in very good shape and exactly like the rented unit that I was replacing. No issues with installation and setup (didn’t need to contact Verizon/FioS exact to arrange the return of the rented unit.) ... show more

I bought this so I could stop wasting money by paying my ISP to 'rent' the exact same equipment. It works flawlessly and gives me the exact same experience all while saving me money every month, it's a no brainer!!!

    • It has loose pieces rattling inside and will not connect to internet
This one ended up being one of the 14% 1-star items. After trying for a while, it goes into solid red mode indicate it got no connection to the internet. It will be returned next week.

So far, so good with this router. I decided to go with this one since I know it’s compatible with FIOS. Set up only took 5 mins or so. It seems like you need a laptop or PC to finish setting up the IP but it may be possible to set up with just a cell phone. I used a laptop. My internet has been much more reliable since replacing my old router with this one. ... show more

Needed to replace a 10 year old Fios Router. Choice between the 1100 and the 3100. Chose the 1100. Installed easily and works great. Price was right!
