Short version: Plug and Play. It works great. Longer version: For the past five years, we had the same model router rented from Verizon. (I'm not crazy, at the time--weirdly--this was actually cheaper than owning. Something with discounts.) It worked great, then lightning struck nearby, and that was the end of it. Routers are apparently susceptible to this. Got a replacement from Verizon, which also worked great, but that was the moment that I realized renting was no longer cheaper for me than owning. So I'm looking at all these fancy routers everyone is recommending, and then it dawned on me that this particular model router worked brilliantly for five years, and we, easily, have 15 appliances on wifi. I also own two Verizon extenders (the upstairs and basement) so I checked the specifications for those, and it turned out these were made specifically for this model router. So why change models? After this $80 refurbished one arrived, it was immediately clear it had seen little use--if any at all. I disconnected the rented router, plugged each cable into the same slot, started it up, and 10 minutes later we were off to the races with wifi equally strong as before. We have Verizon FIOS 1GB. The house has three stories, and closes in on 4000 square feet. Our lot is half an acre with the house in the middle. Wherever I am in our house or yard, I have excellent wifi. ... show more

    • Plug & Play Fios Router
So far, so good with this router. I decided to go with this one since I know it’s compatible with FIOS. Set up only took 5 mins or so. It seems like you need a laptop or PC to finish setting up the IP but it may be possible to set up with just a cell phone. I used a laptop. My internet has been much more reliable since replacing my old router with this one. ... show more

    • I did not need to contact tech support to install this router.
I wanted to eliminate the rental fee for a Verizon FiOS router and bought this one. I have limited technical knowledge, but the instruction sheet was clear enough for me to attempt the replacement myself. The instructions did not specify when I needed to disconnect the coaxial cable and the ethernet cable from the rented router and connect them to the router I bought. After I did that, everything worked flawlessly following the printed instruction sheet. Then the Verizon website allowed me to notify Verizon about returning the rented router. ... show more

This router failed my benchmarks necause unlike the pictures and description state, this is in fact the older 1.03v router, NOT the "Updated 2019 Version" as stated in the title, and not the 1.04v router, as shown in their pictures. 5 minute set up. Original router died. Upgrade is free, but a 2 weeks to upgrade to etherenet isn't gonna work. This saved the day as a stop gap and will serve as a backup.

This works perfect for Verizon Fios. My Fios wifi router is dead, and Verizon wants me to change to new plan with new router to bring up monthly fee.
