This awning works fantastic for such a great price! I honestly was fully prepared for it to be reasonably decent if annoying, but I used it nearly every day on my beach vacation. You just unzip the bag, unroll the awning, unfold and extend the legs, unfold and extend the horizontal bars and slot them in place, then there's Velcro to tie the awning edges to the horizontal bars and tent line and rent stakes for tie downs. It holds up amazingly well, was a great shade, and I was able to regularly set it up and take it down by myself. It'll mount to any roof rack, but the directions do want you to drill holes in your roof bars to then bolt the L brackets onto that hold the awning to the vehicle. I didn't really want to do that, so I actually used heavy duty zip ties (4 per bracket, each zip rated for 75lbs). I would recommend getting some basic hardware and simply making some clamps to attach the brackets to the car.

This is a nice cost effective awning! Everything is as advertised. Setting it up is a breeze especially since I watched others put theirs up first so I knew exactly how when it was my turn to try with my very own awning. I ended up drilling 4 holes for mounting directly to my roof rack. Appears very sturdy. One word if caution is the this will only mount to the cargo basket if it has a mesh patterned bottom. Mine are only width way bars so it would not mount with brackets.

I was hoping that the good reviews were accurate. Easy installation with the supplied brackets. Hade to drill a couple of holes in my crossbars to mount. The awning is basic, lightweight cloth but does the job. The poles are robust and lock easily. The pivot points are metal which was a surprise as many of the low cost awnings are plastic fittings. Used it on a 1400 mile trip through the PNW. I bought additional rope and sand stakes for beach camping and heavy duty stakes for harder ground, makes a big difference and I do this for my tents also.

I bought the Samout to replace a broken Yakima awning. I just about lost my mind when I saw how much Yakima wants for their garbage awning. 600 bucks?! No thanks. When I got this awning, it bolted right up to my Yakima rack with no issues. We took it out for a maiden 4 day camping trip. First thing I noticed is the poles and twist locks are 100 times nicer than Yakima’s. Easy to lock and unlock. The fabric of the awning is almost identical to the Yakima brand. The real difference is where this awning really shines. The support poles have thick inserts. Much thicker than the Yakima inserts. The Yakima inserts bent after only a couple times out and were difficult to bend back properly. The guy lines are sturdy and the package comes with all you need to tie it down firmly. It also packs 100 times easier than the Yakima version. The case is larger and therefore makes it much easier to wind the awning in and zip up. Yakima made it so tight, if you didn’t wind the awning up just perfectly, you had to pray you didn’t break the zippers trying to close the whole thing up. There are also three Velcro holders inside the case as opposed to only two with Yakima. All around, the price point and quality of this awning absolutely DESTROYS the ridiculously priced name brand. It’s a no-brainer.

Bought to put on the Wrangler when we drive out on the beach, to help keep the dogs covered, worked very well and strong winds did not cause any issues other then when we were trying to roll it back up for the day. Traveled affixed to the side of the Jeep for the 14 hour drive down and back. Seems to be quality made.

This awning looks solid and well constructed. But the only options given to attach it to crossbars are to drill holes in the metal. It comes with one long L-bracket that is supposed to be drilled into whatever your installing it to. There are no clamps or other non-destructive ways to hang it. I will have to return it.
