Love this safe. The Wi-Fi May seem an unnecessary expense but monitoring the temp and humidity is well worth it considering the money invested in my rifles. The modular design is awesome. The app is adequate but I can see Vaultek improving it over time. Only complaint: I wish Vaultek had a bigger variety of accessories. For example, a shorter or adjustable size shelf to accommodate longer barreled guns which block the use of the full length shelf. ... show more

    • Wifi in low power mode
I like the wifi feature in low power mode. I don’t have an outlet near by so I am relying on the rechargeable battery in the unit. Been opening and closing several times a day for several days so far. Batt is still at 100%. The wifi connects when an event happens. So it wakes up and sends a notification to my phone and goes back to low power mode. Perfect for me. If the power is low then I’ll just plug in an Anker portable batt to usb charge it. I’m looking at other products Vaultek has to offer. I like the wifi app notifications. One thing would be nice is if I could control the time the interior lights stay on. Great overall. ... show more

Great safe. Fits nicely into a closet in our basement. Everything worked as expected. The only snag I had was getting the WiFi to connect to my mesh network, but this worked after a few minutes of tinkering. Now it works great and I'm extremely happy with it. It is potentially a bit "tippy," so I put a screw through the back to hold it against the wall. I would not put it somewhere where it cannot be secured to the floor or wall. Love it! ... show more

    • This is not a safe and it is not really equipped for modern rifles.
So let me start out by saying that #1. First and foremost. This is not a safe. At best this a heavy-duty gun locker. It can house rifles and the RS stands for "Rifle Safe" but let's be loose with those term for a second as we dive a little deeper into this gun locker that wants to be a rifle safe. Now, don't get me wrong. I would hate to have to get into this thing the hard way, but it's not impossible by any stretch of the imagination. Is it kid safe. Yeah. Probably. Is it state complaint. Also yeah, sure. Why not. But the real question is...is it going to keep out the bad guys? Like a traditional safe might? With little to no effort? No. Not at all. With that being said, here is a list of my pros and cons and all of things this locker should have for the price that it just doesn't. I'll try and keep it short, sweet and to the point. Pros: Multiple access points. If you need them. Keypad, Biometric, Key Lock, Dongle, Etc. You need it. You got it. Relatively compact and light weight. Can fit it just about anywhere and you can lift it up and move it by yourself. Empty. This may also be a Con. That depends entirely on you. To each their own. All this means is, you can get it into a secure location rather easily. But the secure location is what would make that light weight bit a real pro. Otherwise. It's only a pro for the delivery guy. Apartment friendly. For the most part. Should still bolt this thing down. But if you can't. Then. There is hardware for that, I guess. The con here being. It's generally extra. Now that my short list of pros is done. Here is the real butter. Cons: The App is terrible. The WiFi Access is just as bad. Both of which are useless features you pay for upfront. That don't work in the back, and you don't really need at all. To be honest. So yeah, there's that. The Biometrics on the Emergency Access Fob doesn't work. At least mind doesn't. Still trying to figure out why that is. It will open on the first go and then not at all. Rinse and repeat. Plug in cable is wildly short. Like, why? I hope it is not recommended to be plugged in at all for any reason whatsoever. Ever. Cause you're going to have to make some life changing decisions based on a foot of USB cable and that's hilarious. Locker is incredibly limited on space. Let that be your focal point here if anything else. It is advertised to fit what? 5 Rifles? What kind of rifles. M1 Grands? Whos' putting 5 M1 Grands in a QARL? No one. So... let's make that a strong 3, maybe weak 4 and here is why. If those rifles are of the modern sporting rifle persuasion, you cannot and I repeat, you cannot get anything mounted in this locker side by side if it has any accessories inserted or mounted on its north and south face. I.e. Optics, Carry Handles, Inserted Magazines, Etc. If you don't have any of these things, great. Then you can mount a weak 4 side by side if you have anything that may have accessories mounted in the east and west Positions. I.e. Lights, Lazers, Side Charging Handles, Etc. But your milage may very here. I was able to get 3 and a Ks7 side by side. Only after I took off all of the attached sighting equipment out of the equation. I later went with a different configuration. But you will have to get creative to make anything more than 3 fit in this in a side mounted over lapping configuration. So, take that for what it is worth to you and let's move on. As this leads me to my next con. Peg board does not cover the whole of the back wall and with the limited real estate you get with this locker, that's a huge miss. You need every single inch. No peg board for mounting space on the side walls again with the miss. Like I said above. With this locker you need every available inch and to get more than 2 rifles in here comfortably this is not a good look. Lights do not stay on not sure why. They have a very quick delay and then they turn off, not that they do much in the way of illumination anyway. I have a strong suspicion this requires that 1' USB cable I didn't use. Another miss. Accessories are cheap and gimmicky. Mostly plastic. The barrel mounts are too thin to fit all barrel diameters and if you don't have any available barrel real estate...you are not going to be happy here. I had to rip the foam out of all three that it came with to make use of them. A fourth one showed up in the mail on its own a couple of days later...completely broken and bent out of shape. Not sure at all about the order in which that happened but it went in the trash all the same. I didn't need it...and it wouldn't have worked if I did. ...and finally. I ordered my safe here. On Amazon. Which I generally prefer to do with big purchase and my last con outlines why. Company is difficult to work with and not very customer orientated. I ordered some additional items from Vaultek's website the same day I ordered my "Safe" here. Two separate orders that apparently came together. Not sure why that happened. But it didn't. No sooner did I sign for the safe did I get an order delivery confirmation E-Mail. Thinking it was for the safe I put it out of my mind. As that was what came. However, it took me a few days to realize the error in this as I went online to check the order status of the items that I ordered directly from Vaultek and to my surprise. Both were marked as complete. Even though they were never delivered. I checked my emails and there it was. The delivery E-Mail for those items and a separate one for the safe. However, the safe was the only thing delivered. So, I E-Mailed Vaultek. Their response was that they will apparently fix the issue if I take a form that they sent me. To a notary. Fill it out. Get it notarized. Send it back and wait for them to process this form. It's already been a week. So I what? Go on a month-long game of cat and mouse with these guys to get my items or my money back? So I can take off work. Lose money. To go to a notary. To potentially pay. Lose money. To send them a form. Using my gas, to lose money. To get them a document. That they apparently need to fix this issue on their end. When I am half attempted to just file challenge the purchase through my bank. For 2000+usd in merchandise...this easily going down as one of my top 10 biggest regrets in 4 decades of life. Avoid this if you can. If you absolutely must have this...spring for the 800i. If the 500 isn't worth it. Hopefully the 800 is. I really wanted to love this. I really did. I just didn't...and now I want my money back. ... show more
