I did so much research on different back before I found these because someone mentioned them in a review of a different product on REI. For some reason there is no company that serves America directly that has figured out how to make a pannier this good, when I learned about these I was thrilled that there is a company importing them because there really is no comparison. This is an initial review, as I've only used these a couple of weeks, but so far they're great, and very reasonably priced for a set of two. I use these for commuting and running errands on my e-bike. They detach and reattach very easily, and have plenty of storage to suit my needs. The extendable main storage compartment fit a 12lb bag of cat food with room to spare. I'm giving these bags 4 out of 5 stars because they're no frills, good bags. ... show more

These are the packs I've been looking for, for over twenty years, and playing around with my own designs. After crossing the US, Canada, riding up and down the West Coast, and finally riding from Alaska to Patagonia and back up to the Amazon, I have two requirements in a pack. 1. They must be waterproof. 2. They must have outer pockets. Ortlieb satisfies #1. These satisfy both. Finally, a waterproof pack that has outer pockets. They are almost a pound heavier than my Ortlieb Back-Rollers, but well worth it. Additional design improvements over the Back-Rollers: Main closure straps fasten to themselves or, alternatively, to a buckle on the sides (one female, one male - this is a VERY important detail). The entire back of the pannier's water proof material is protected by a plastic plate. Ortlieb's protection is only around the bottom edges. This also improves stiffness considerably so the packs do not have to be perfectly centered on the rack, relative to the rack stays (no potential for the bags to hit the spokes). These are a cleaner look than the Back-Rollers, especially if you choose not to use Ortlieb's extraneous fastening straps that could be lost on a tour fairly easily. These were awesome packs! There could be some minor design changes (side buckles should be mounted 4-6 inches lower and floating or angled somewhat to reduce strain, main pocket should open naturally more to the outside vs. vertically), but hands down better than anything I've seen or used by Ortlieb. Price? Depending on color, potentially $100 more accessible. ... show more

I borrowed these Vaude panniers to cycle Scotland's highlands and islands for 2.5 months (in the rain). They were leant to me from a cycle touring friend who repeadly lends them to fellow cycle tourists (and they had toured Scotland before). They held up perfectly and never leaked, never. The outside pockets held quick access snacks, tools, and waterproofs... this was very important to me, since as you can see my backpack (with camping gear) was strapped atop them. Thus the big bags were not quick access. I backpacked and bike toured, so I stached these panniers in nearby bushes before setting out on foot. They never leaked, never failed, never rubbed my tires, and never came off by accident. They are 10 years old and had been used repeatedly by multiple folks on long journeys. Everyone says ortliebs are the best, and if you want to pay out the nose for that name, do it. But if you want a solid pannier at a cheap price, these are great. I will add that Vaude has pretty much no customer service, so if something breaks don't look to them. What you see is what you get, but in my experience, these are great! ... show more

The bags seems to be good with the exception of the outer pocket strap. I received the bags with no snap clip on the outside pocket strap that would keep it closed and waterproof. I contacted the manufacturer via their website on the day that I received the bags with my issue that I just needed the clips rather than send the bags back to Spain. I have had no response; several weeks now. So if you buy a product from this manufacturer; you are on your own. ... show more

I purchased these bags a year and a half ago and use them for a two-week trip. They've been stored in a box during covid. I just had them out on the gap c&o trail and they exploded. They were not overloaded just normal clothes and camping gear. No one else on the trail had their panniers coming apart. The machines are not shown together and the welding came apart all over. Luckily I had dry bags inside the bags so I didn't lose my stuff all over the trail. I'm going back to the bags that everyone else uses. These look cool but they don't survive the trail. ... show more
