  • Great bike packing ecosystem product
Item Shape: Front - 22lb Capacity
Great front fork rack. I use entirely Topeak products on my bike and love the interchangeability of their entire ecosystem of products.

  • Too narrow for a 4" fat tire bike
Item Shape: Front - 22lb Capacity
This rack seems well made. Unfortunately it is too narrow to fit on the suspension forks of a 4" fat tire bike

  • Compatible with Trek Rail 9.7 Gen2, Rockshox Domain RC, and Thule T2 Pro XTR
Item Shape: Front - 22lb Capacity
TLDR; I didn’t give the standard mounting straps a chance and went straight to mounting with black shims (to protect fork) and black hose clamps. Last night, I loaded 25 lb on the front rack and went down 3 sets of stairs with my full suspension mountain bike and the rack didn’t move—so I believe it passes the sturdiness test with flying colors. The most under appreciated aspect of this product is the easily removable top plate which allows you to still use SUV bike carriers like the Thule T2 XTR which need to be able to clamp down on the front wheel of the bike. If you’re reading this review, you’re likely already familiar with how difficult it is to find a way to mount a rack onto full suspension mountain bikes which have no eyelets. If your bike has rack mounting eyelets, this product is not for you. I already have a large capacity rear saddle bag and another bike with a rear rack. Thus, I wanted a front rack which could be installed on either of my bikes. Front racks which keep the weight low like this one also tend to be better for climbing steep hills to keep the front end down. As I mentioned above, I didn’t even give the standard mounting straps the product comes with a chance. I saw in several other reviews here and elsewhere that the racks moved on them despite proper installation. I tend to ride my bikes frequently, hard, fast, and with a lot of weight as a year-round bike commuter and bikepacker. I used black hose clamps and black shims to protect my precious Rockshox Domain RC fork. Measuring my fork from middle of the lower leg to middle of lower leg like they depict, my fork is technically about 10 mm too wide for their product at about 155 mm. It was quite a stretch and I frankly didn’t think it would work upon initially placing it. I only gave this product a chance because I saw someone else installed this rack on a Trek Rail in the reviews here and assumed they were also well over the fork width limit. As others have pointed out, probably the worst elements of this product are the screws which seem to barely work with a standard 2.5 mm hex and only work properly with a 2.5 mm ball hex. That and the directions. I didn’t really use them since I did a non-standard install but probably would have been very frustrated had I needed to use them. Granted, these are small complaints for another excellent product in a space where there are few solutions. ... show more

  • Terrific for my fat tire ebike
Item Shape: Front - 22lb Capacity
I use this rack on my Aventon Aventure fat tire ebike and I like it a lot. It's useful as hell when I need it and still looks great when I'm not using it. You're either somebody who's going to use this everyday or you're not and if you're not then i still recommend it for you because you'll still be glad it's there if you ever need it and if it is there then you'll use it more than you thought you would in the first place. I do think these racks should be a bit cheaper though! Geez. ... show more

  • Not That Good for the Price
Item Shape: Front - 22lb Capacity
As other Reviews have said, the mounting system is not very good. It should have some sort of clamping and bolt on mount, not Velcro straps. Even if one can tighten down the straps, there’s just not enough torque one can apply with the hand and screws to secure them tight enough. Even so, straps slip. Also, the material of the screws is very shaky. I suspect if you have to torque them often because of slipping and needed adjustment, they will soon strip out, as one other Reviewer commented above. The Velcro straps slip down the front forks under load. Not overload. If you decide to keep this rack and use it for Packing you will probably need to do what the one fellow did by securing the rack with hose clamps or some other Jerryrig, not the system that comes on this rack. The other matter is that the rack is very close to the front tire on the Fathom 29 inch MB. If you run into mud, the mud is going to catch on the rack because it is so close to the tire. It may work for you if you’re doing light commuting with 10 lbs (~ 5 kg) or less, and if the terrain is not very rough with potholes, bumps, etc….. But you may find it will still need to be readjusted in time depending on how much you ride and where. I would not recommend this rack for off-road use, unless you reinforce it somehow as was mentioned above. Try the Thule racks. They seem better envisioned for the price though they also use straps to mount, but not Velcro. And the Thule rack is not perfect either. It does not provide enough strapping to fit around 42 mm forks on a MB. But this is in another Review. Hopefully some better quality items will appear in the future for MBs lacking accessories mounts. ... show more

  • Inadequate components bring down the score
Item Shape: Front - 22lb Capacity
TI bought the rear mount version and found it adequate, so got this one to have consistent design. It had the same issues as the previous one and then some. Let's start with the cheap allen head cap screws made of soft metal with inadequate socket depth. Step one is to loosen six of them. I assume at least a couple of them are to enable you to adjust for bike dimensions, but nothing moves. The main problem with the last one came with tightening them and the sides of the hole stripping out almost as soon as resistance was encountered. I didn't even get that far before I encountered that problem because two of them appeared to have been stripped out at the factory and I couldn't loosen them at all. The real problem with my bike (a Trek full sus with 29" wheel) is limited clearance. I don't hit hard enough very often to get full fork travel, but I can see that the rack might stop the front wheel abruptly and send me over the bars. Would another inch or so on the legs have bankrupted you? I don't think the Velcro straps with hand tightening and a kind of set screw arrangement are adequate to hold position. Ratchet tightening might be a better solution. I took a tip from a previous reviewer of the rear models and put black hose clamps around each mounting point. All that said, it isn't a bad looking piece and the basic design works better with my mountain bike than some alternatives. ... show more
