  • An okay bass for the price, but budget extra for setup
Color: Black
With Squier quality creeping up on MIM Fender quality and prices these days, and that brand's lower-end stuff creeping up in price as well, it's nice to have options for a starter instrument with acceptable quality that won't break the bank. Yes, acceptable. The finish is fine, the frets are correctly dressed on my copy, and the electronics are nice and quiet. Soundwise, however, it's nothing to set the world on fire. Full disclosure, literally every bass I've used before this has used dual pickups in one way or another -- dual humbuckers, dual Jazz pickups, or the ever-popular P/J configuration -- so that probably colors my perception of this bass's sound. I also tend to prefer short-scale basses, and this one's full-scale. That said, if you're looking at this bass, I suggest budgeting extra for a proper setup. The string action is set much higher than I'm used to on this bass, and when you combine that with a neck that feels like a baseball bat, it's by no means the most comfortable thing out there. As P basses go, I've heard better sound than this, but I'm also making some allowances because those were higher-priced than this one, often by a fair amount. The accompanying accessories, likewise, are just okay. The gig bag provides a modicum of protection, the strap is the usual cheap and scratchy affair, the cord and strings are adequate, and the picks are a nice addition, I guess, if you're going to play that way instead of fingerstyle. The one thing that isn't included is a tuner; I don't mind since I have a couple of those, but if this is your first bass (again, likely given the price) or if you're buying for someone else, that's another thing to bear in mind. Final verdict: if you're an advanced bassist (I'm not), this isn't likely to be your backup axe, though the price is probably low enough to modify the heck out of it. If you're new, or you're buying for someone who is, this isn't a terrible option by any means as long as you bear in mind that it's not going to play its best straight out of the box. ... show more

  • Great started set
Color: Sunburst
I am by no means a professional guitar player, it’s mostly something I just do when I’m bored. However, this kit is a great starter kit for somebody who wants to get started playing bass. It comes with everything you need to get started, with the exception of an amp. The design of the guitar is beautiful, it has a great weight and feels solid and high quality. It’s easy to get tuned up (I use an app) and is a good times to play or just strum on for fun. I really like that. It even included a carrying case, which makes it great for traveling or storage. ... show more

  • Solid Beginner Bass
Color: Black
Best as a back up or starter bass, will not be your main bass guitar for the long term if you're in a band. Excellent value for the quality. The bass plays well out of the box with minimal set up needed, it comes with a lot of what you need sans a bass amp. You get a strap, soft case, cable, extra strings, picks (but you should just use your fingers). It is styled awfully similarly to a name brand bass guitar and is a fraction of the cost. The knobs and tuners turn smoothly, the pick ups deliver a solid bass sound with no buzzing. Performs really well for the price. I was impressed. I really like the look, feel and performance of it. ... show more

  • No complaints here.
Color: Sunburst
This is my first bass. This kit comes with: The bass, extra strings, a strap, a bag, picks, and a cord. The bass is easy to hold and is comfortable to play. I love the sunburst color it looks great. The bass has a good sound and the volume is easy to adjust. So the question is is this the best bass for beginners? Probably not you could find a name brand base for around the same price. But I still think this is a good bass. ... show more

  • Great beginning bass!
Color: Sunburst
I'm trying to learn to play the bass so I thought this would be a good one to use for that...and I'm very impressed with it so far. First, the price is GREAT for the quality of the instrument - it's nice looking, well made, tunes easily, and feels good in your hands. The tuning pegs are easy to turn and very nice quality. The finish on this bass is super nice too - very, very well done. It does not look "cheap" in any way whatsoever! You get a full set of what you need to get started - gig bag, strings, picks, tuning wrench, strap, cleaning cloth and an aux cord. All nice "bonuses"! For the price, which is on the low end, I didn't have much in the way of expectations but I will say that this really exceeded what I thought I would be getting. It's a GREAT beginner instrument, perfect for anyone who wants to "dabble" without breaking the bank. I highly recommend it! ... show more
