Item description states “1. 5 inch thick activated carbon filter.” It is actually 0.5 inch thick and leaves room for the filters to tip backwards onto the back cover. Once the unit is on, the airflow pulls the filters forward so the unit still works, but this is not the original design and seems pretty hokey to me.

Like the other filter that goes in this air purifier, this one is mistake proof. Well marked so it's easy to place in the system. You simply can't put it in wrong. Works well with the purifier. Happy with this.

This filter was much thinner than the one that came with my air cleaner. I was very disappointed since I bought the OEM’s replacement at a premium price.

I like the fact that the unit this goes to is quiet unless you burn something or have a lot of dust going on...great for allergy reduction. Takes a long time before the unit says to change it. Reduced asthma attacks/sneezing/drippy nose noted.

Does a good job of keeping the air clean

I looked long and hard for air filters for my home a few years back. I decided to buy all Bissell products - with the main filter for my large room being the air400. It's been a solid product and I have been very happy with it overall - until today. One of the reasons why I went with Bissell is so I could purchase the official filters at a reasonable price and get QUALITY. That quality is gone. In fact, it feels as though Bissell has now actively gone out of their way to say "SCREW YOU!" to my face. I have regularly changed the filters as suggested by Bissell and never had a problem - but that has obviously changed. They drastically changed the design of the replacement carbon filters - and I will probably have to rely on Chinese knock-offs moving forward UNLESS Bissell can regain their lost sense of pride I assume they had behind their products. The replacement carbon filter I received this week is clearly a cheap redesign of the original. It's thinner, lighter and honestly rather worthless. Had this been the quality of their product a few years ago, I wouldn't have even considered the air400. There is hardly any carbon in it, to the point where you have to ask - "why bother?" It's thinner... Like much thinner. Thin enough to where both filters together will not fit properly in the space provided. I really hope Bissell goes back to their original design. I would be happy to pay an extra $5 bucks or so to get the original quality they left beaten, unconscious and face down in a gutter. I will be contacting Bissell to express my disappointment and let them know the money I would be giving them will now go to some random Chinese company until they get their act together. Shame on them. Pictures provided. Clearly the one that is thicker and has the more carbon is the original design.
