I'm of the mind that I'm going to use a reed even if it's a dud. I soak it in water, knead it with my thumbs, and play the hell out of them until they function. Since most of my playing is practice and not performance, it's not that big a deal. Furthermore, I love what David Lynch said in his little white book he put out in the early 2000's about the artistic process. He said that artists should get the cheapest gear possible to allow themselves to grow the most. I take that to heart. If you can make a dud reed sound good, you're making more progress than if you have the most expensive and well-built products. That said, I've never been disappointed with a box from Vandoren. The video on this ad FYI is for ligatures and not reeds. Found that a little weird. ... show more

These are perfect for a sound I am looking for in a church setting with a JodyJazz HR MP. The sound I get is just in between the bright edge of the Java green box reeds and the thicker sound of V16. It really helps when I have a part starting on a low B or C# and need to start it soft.
