Description

The Van Staal VR series spinning reel, a lighter sibling of the renowned VSX, is fully sealed and robust yet designed for reduced weight. Each reel includes a manual bail and a bail-less conversion kit. The latest model boasts a thicker stainless steel main shaft, minimizing flex under load during intense fights. Waterproof sealing has been enhanced, and the drag knob enlarged for easier adjustment with gloves. A left-handed model is now available, indicated by the '1' in the model number (VR51, VR151, VR201).

The VR series is not a reel where the orientation can be switched from left handed to right handed. Not fun to find this out after paying $500 for a reel. I called Van Staal, and they confirmed it cannot be switched. Beautiful reel though.

This reel is an excellent saltwater performer. Super lightweight yet strong to get you through those long days of fishing. Does well surf fishing as it is designed to survive being submerged. Will be enjoying this reel for a lifetime.

I finally bought my dream real. I have it pared with a st. croix rod. 9’ It works good with both big and small game fish. I’m on Long Island and the striped bass and blue fish are monsters this time of year.

My god the dumb hype around old technology. Not all their reels are made in the USA and it’s not a small company anymore… the biggest problem is the reel is advertised as a rugged and water proof/water resistant. There is almost a myth around this company with online videos of people finding reels in the ocean many years later and the reel working perfectly fine…. What a bunch of crap. I fished it 155 days last year the gears on the teeth are grinded away and the bail fail. The worst part is they won’t cover it under the warranty and it too much over 3 months for my reel to come back. They can blame covid all they want but my daiwa reel came back in 2 weeks. ... show more
