  • Super cool STEM kit
This is so cool! I like getting my nephews STEM toys and this one check all the boxes. The V8 engine building set is fun and unique. The pieces fit well and the instructions are easy to follow, I can see this being great for kids or grownups who like hands-on projects. Once assembled, the engine actually runs using the manual joystick, which is really cool and helps demonstrate how a V8 engine works. It’s a great STEM toy that blends building, mechanics, and learning in a way that doesn’t feel boring. Perfect for car lovers, LEGO fans, or anyone who enjoys mechanical models and educational toys. ... show more

  • Interesting enough I was excited to build it.
The media could not be loaded. If you want a cheap gift for someone who is really into cars but not a name brand building block die hard, this isn’t a bad option. I am a LEGO enthusiast. I generally avoid anything off brand, but when I was given the opportunity to test this kit out my curiosity got the best of me. Overall, I enjoyed building this. It took me about an hour total. The instructions were pretty clear. The pieces all came in about 8 bags, 6 of which had a series of numbers. The instructions referenced a bag 1 and bag 2. Originally I thought I had deciphered which bags belonged where and was dead wrong. I ended up just opening all the bags at once. Luckily it was a small enough amount of pieces that it was easy to find stuff in the chaos. The only reason this isn’t a 5 star review is piece quality. The finish of 99% of the pieces was on par with name brand. The only pieces that had any visual defects were the clear ones. The main complaint I had was with the most important attribute for any building blocks brand: clutch strength. How well the pieces stay together. This was wildly inconsistent. You have two main attachments methods in a technical set like this: pins and barrels. The barrels were the least finicky, the clutch strength ranged from perfect to a little too tight for easy insertion. The pins on the other hand were all over the place… I had one piece that would not stay in place at all and had one that required me to use two pairs of pliers to remove. Lastly, the final operation of the engine was less smooth than I wanted. The important thing is I still had fun building it?? ... show more

  • Great building set!
This is absolutely great. My teenage son loves to work on cars with his dad and he is having a great time putting this together. You open each bag of pieces as you go, so you don't have all the pieces loose at once. You can complete one section and stop if you want and not loose pieces. The instructions are very detailed and helpful! This is absolutely great! ... show more

  • Visually Interesting V8 Engine Model with Mechanical Issues and Inconsistent Parts Quality
The media could not be loaded. This V8 engine building block set presents a visually appealing and interesting concept, but the overall experience was mixed. After completing the build and testing the mechanism, I would rate this product 3 stars, mainly due to design, quality, and mechanical issues that affect both the assembly process and functionality. The total build time was approximately 3–4 hours. While the instruction manual states that the model can be built sequentially using Bag 1 followed by Bag 2, this was not the case in reality. The parts were randomly distributed across multiple bags, regardless of build order. The bag numbering also did not match the instructions. The set included bags labeled V8-0-1, V8-0-2, V8-1-1, V8-1-2, V8-2-1, V8-2-2, plus two unnumbered bags, which made following the manual unnecessarily confusing. To make the build manageable, I had to lay out paper plates and multiple containers and sort parts by size and color before starting. Without this extra preparation, the build would have been extremely frustrating. Early in the build, watching the V8 pistons move was genuinely fun and engaging. From a STEM and educational perspective, this is one of the strongest aspects of the set. However, as the build progresses, the pistons become largely hidden behind additional structural components. While the crankshaft motion above the pistons remains visible, it feels more like a visual gimmick rather than a mechanically accurate representation of a real engine. I would have preferred a design that continued to highlight the piston motion, as that is the most educational and interesting part of the model. Mechanically, there are several issues. When turning the gears manually, some gears rub against nearby brick walls, causing binding and resistance. To resolve this, I installed real M5 metal washers on both sides of certain gears (as shown in the attached photos). After adding the washers, the movement became significantly smoother. While this fix works, it is disappointing that a building block kit requires real mechanical hardware to function properly. The chain drive system also has design flaws. The chains are installed on gears that sit very close together, causing the chains to rub against each other during operation, resulting in noise and drag. Again, washers helped reduce friction, but this should have been addressed in the original design. Another major issue is inconsistent brick quality. Some parts fit extremely tightly, while others are so loose that they cannot stay in place and may fall out under their own weight. Once fully assembled, this inconsistency causes the model to shake, flex, and squeak when turning the crank, which reduces realism and overall durability. The molding quality is also inconsistent. Some bricks show visible surface marks or stains, and the finish is not uniform across all parts. The instruction manual also mentions that an optional motor can be purchased separately and installed to make the engine run automatically. Based on the overall build quality and mechanical tolerances of this set, I would be very concerned about using a motor. Even with manual operation, there is noticeable friction in the gears and chains. If powered by a motor, it seems very likely that gear components could bind or potentially break during initial operation unless significant modifications are made. Although the box lists this set as suitable for ages 6 and up, I strongly believe that adult supervision is absolutely necessary if children are involved. The build process is complex, requires careful part sorting, and includes very small components, especially the chain pieces, which are easy to lose and difficult to handle. This set feels far more appropriate for older kids, teens, or adults, particularly those with patience and prior experience with mechanical or building block kits. In summary, this set has a strong visual concept and educational potential, especially for those interested in engines and mechanical motion. However, the poor part organization, mechanical friction issues, inconsistent brick tolerances, and reliance on external fixes prevent it from being a polished experience. It can still be enjoyable for experienced builders who like troubleshooting and modifying designs, but it may be frustrating for those expecting a smooth, accurate, and durable model out of the box. Overall, an interesting display model with learning value, but significant design and quality shortcomings justify a 3-star rating. ... show more

  • Perfect Gift for the In-Between Ages — 12-14!
This V8 engine building block set is absolutely perfect for that tricky age range—kids who are too old for traditional Lego sets but still love hands-on projects. Around 13 years old is the sweet spot. It’s not just a Lego set—you’re actually building a working V8 engine, which makes it so much more exciting. My cousin’s 13-year-old son, who’s really into cars, loved it. Seeing the engine run after building it made him genuinely thrilled. It’s a great gift for young car enthusiasts or budding engineers, combining fun, learning, and the satisfaction of building something that actually works. Definitely a hit! ... show more
