I bought this to replace our aging mattress pad. I ordered a queen size for our full size bed because I've learned that over the years of washings and dryings these pads shrink. This is slightly bigger but that's what I wanted. The deep elastic pocket is not padded, padding is just on the top, which isn't necessary anyway. If it had padding on the side pockets it would add bulk and additional drying time. If you're looking at other pads that have padding on the side pocket areas, you're paying for padding you'll never feel. It came rolled up tightly in a plastic bag like a rolled up sleeping bag. So tight that I couldn't pull it out of the bag and had to cut it. It unfolded nicely and didn't have any plastic odor to it. The quilted padding on is comfortable. Best value for the money.
