Second update - this began as a one star review but guys, this company cares. A lot. The customer service and tech support has been outstanding, and I’m happy to say the unit is functioning better than expected. Great buy! Update - I misjudged this company, expecting to be treated like VEVOR handles defective equipment. After I left the review below they reached out offering help. The replacement unit I got works well. The camera doesn’t work with software version 1.1.9. The next version 1.2.2 exists but for Android only. The provided drivers work well for Mac but you do have to disable kernel protection in recovery mode to install it. The engraving itself is top shelf. Very high resolution and can produce finely detailed images. The maximum area it can cover is 20cm square or roughly four inches. The software interface could use the touch of a native English speaker, but the quirks are understandable and a little funny. Overall I’m satisfied with the purchase and will be keeping and using it. I bought this laser to support a serious machining project—what I got was a silent brick in a cheap plastic box. This UTKA A1 claims to be a 10W engraver with USB control. But here’s the truth: it’s a non-functional, undocumented, driverless nightmare, especially if you use macOS. I disabled SIP on my M2 Mac, installed multiple verified CH340 drivers (including signed open-source ones), and used a known-good USB cable on multiple ports. Nothing. The device does not appear in /dev/cu.*, System Information, or even draw enough current to register on the USB bus. No serial enumeration. No blinking LED. No life. This is not “Mac driver trouble”—this is dead hardware with no excuse. The fact that Amazon platforms a manufacturer with zero documentation, no support, and hardware that doesn’t even attempt to communicate is disgraceful. I returned it, but I’m having a second unit sent as a test. If that one fails too—and I suspect it will—I’ll return that one too, then escalate. Not for the refund (which I’ll get), but to waste as much of this company’s time, shipping budget, and reputation as possible. To future buyers: unless you like playing tech support roulette, stay far away. To Amazon: platforming broken hardware from offshore ghost brands will keep costing you if users like me make it expensive. I may take it out on an unsuspecting Amazon exec too. I'm Seattle based.

The media could not be loaded. I have to admit this is the best bang for your buck you can get if you’re just learning to engrave. I purchased the version with the camera and I have to admit it’s a pretty neat little feature. If you are learning to laser engrave this is a great small machine that fits anywhere. It’s the size of a printer and if you buy a small fume extractor you are still well below the price of the name brand diode lasers. Another nice feature is you can increase the height of it for the rotary but I didn’t really use it. I can’t speak for the software as I use light burn mostly because I use a co2 60W Omtech for work so learning a new software was not for me. Though the very thing that makes it great it also the only downside. The engraving size limit is 4x4. The other draw back is your computer must be on at all times and not fall asleep or the engraver will stop, which exactly what happened with the design I was cutting. I believe once you get a taste for engraving you want to go for bigger projects and unfortunately this machine would not adapt my needs. Overall I really liked it and I feel it’s a great introduction to laser engraving without breaking the bank.

Edit: they claim camera support for CutLabX will be released within a couple months; camera doesn’t work til then except with Lightburn software which is a paid extra subscription $100 for the core only, or $199 for whole package then there’s additional annual fee of $30 to keep it “updated”. Know this before you decide on buying.
