  • Read before considering
Size: 10W with Camera
Edit: they claim camera support for CutLabX will be released within a couple months; camera doesn’t work til then except with Lightburn software which is a paid extra subscription $100 for the core only, or $199 for whole package then there’s additional annual fee of $30 to keep it “updated”. Know this before you decide on buying. ... show more

  • Engraves on Wood Very Clean, Not the Easiest to Hook Up, CPU instructions Show Up in Chinese
Size: 5W
I had a world of trouble trying to hook it up to my Mac on the first day, but once I did it was great. It is preassembled, all you have to do is slide in the laser head. I was most impressed with the power and cleanness of the engraving given that it is only a 5-watt. I usually use a 20-watt Xtools. If the designers could make the instructional manual better, and the connectivity/Bluetooth/ ease of hooking it up better, it would make for some decent competition to name brands. Pros: Nice build quality and functionality Cons: The software and Cutlabs needs a fair bit of work ... show more

  • Sweet!
Size: 5W
It's a fantastic little machine. Compact, easy to set up, and very forgiving. It does come with a set of laser goggles too. It's a very safe machine - it powers off when tilted, shuts off the laser when the lid is open, etc. The safety shutoff, which requires you to close the shield, can be a bit finicky. If your machine's lights are flashing, and it refuses to connect, try pushing down on the left side of the shield. That's where the switch is. I've already made some lovely items with this machine! It is good enough for the Norton White tile technique, and it makes fantastic clean engravings in wood. I'm extremely blessed to have received this item for free as a Vine member. However, the value and convenience of the machine are obvious to me. I would feel happy with the machine even if I paid full price. If you want to laser cut small wood parts, or engrave coasters, tool handles and similar items, this machine will do it! The 10cm x 10cm engraving area seems small at first, but it's totally feasible to move the machine and make larger designs, at least for engraving. Haven't tried it with cutting. * * * UPDATE: It's now a few weeks later and the machine is as fantastic as ever. Maintenance consists only of cleaning the lens and refocusing the laser for a new material. To clean the lens, I use 90% isopropyl alcohol + cotton swabs. Stand under a bright light and slowly tilt the diode back and forth to make light shine across the lens. When you see nothing on it, it's good to go! If your living situation allows it, put this machine (and a laptop or other small PC to control it) in a covered outdoor space or some other open-air space. If not, put it in the least-used room and have fans both drawing air in and forcing it out. I have not tried laser enclosures or smoke purifiers so I can't speak much about them. My understanding is that only an enclosure, or some other way to get ALL the smoke outside, is effective. Purifiers remove smell, but most of them don't have what it takes to TRULY purify air. Just try to create all the outside-ward airflow you can! ... show more

  • Great for Making Engraved Coasters
Size: 5W
I've always wanted a laser engraver, but I didn't have the space for one of the larger machines. When I ran across this smaller version, I had to get it. The whole thing takes up a space around 12" x 15" and easily fits on my desk. The instructions aren't exceptionally clear, but after a little work, I was able to get it set up and ready to print. The software that comes with it is CutLabX which from researching online, isn't the greatest software in the world, but it's free. Since I'm nowhere near using it enough to justify a paid subscription to an engraving program, I made this one work. The software is not super user friendly, and it took me about an hour to try and get the design I wanted printed, but the machine does do a really nice job. And now that I've worked with the program more, it's not nearly as difficult to use. It's just the starting out that really gives you a learning curve. But the machine itself is fantastic! I would absolutely recommend it. ... show more

  • UTKA A1 5W Mini Laser Engraver
Size: 5W
The media could not be loaded. This UTKA 5 watt laser engraver is ideal for the beginner hobbyist, like me. It comes with all you need to get started. It even comes with some sample balsa wood to get started right away. The included TF card is located in the back of the machine slot and has drivers and software to get started. It took about 10 minutes to install software and get it all plugged in and ready to start engraving. I downloaded a vector online and loaded it up in the software. I used one of the included samples to test. As my first ever laser engravement, it wasn’t too bad. I know for next time I will tone down the laser power and speed up the travel. From unboxing to finished product in about 1 hour. Not too bad and highly recommend. ... show more
