  • Works great, compact, awesome price!
Style: Caribou Backpacker - 14 Inch
The media could not be loaded. Let me start off by saying, I'm new to the camp stove game, but I'm really enjoying this little stove. I haven had any issues with air flow or smoke when burning in this stove. I have burned pine but I mostly use birch wood. Thoses things really get going in this little stove. It is true that the 6 feet of flute segments can become stuck (really stuck) after burning due to build up. This is easily fixed by spraying (when cool) the connections with a tiny bit of WD-40 foam, allow it 1min to loosen the grime between the male/female connection. Then twist lose. Clean with paper towel......BAM!, your ready for your next outing. I'm surprised no one has tried this method yet....it works! Also I use a bubble level to tilt the firebox ever so slightly downward (extendable legs help here) in the front to assist in pulling the smoke away from the door. The air flow does the work, sucking from front (door) to the (flute) in the back. The legs also connect to the firebox via threads that are exposed to ash and heat so tapping those also with WD-40 goes a long way keeping them from getting stuck as well. I hope this helps someone out there because this really is an awesome stove when kept in good condition. ... show more

  • Be aware.. this is SMALL!!
Style: Caribou Outfitter - 18 Inch
Overall, this is well built and the materials are thick. The chimney pipes are a nice steel and seem like they would last a while. My biggest issue... this thing is small!! I knew it would be small and its meant to be small... but I didn’t expect it to be THAT small - the entire stove comes in a bag that holds everything and that bag can fit into a 5 gallon bucket. At its lowest height with legs attached is less than 17” - the door is nice but very small making it difficult to stack logs and get this thing started. It runs well but when you close the door damper anymore than half way, the fire goes out. Overall... this would probably be nice for a very small area 8x8 max and that may be too big. I liked it but after 1 burn... i had to return it. Just too small for my liking but it is well built. Just understand what you are buying (I thought I did but I underestimated the actual size. I am going to look into a larger one from the “chef’s.” The racks leave more to be desired. They are 4.5” wide and only about 14” long. Not really drying racks that would be super useful. I wanted to like this and I gave it a shot but it’s just not for me. I can see using this for a small tent or ice fishing shack. Here are some dimensions from the manufacturer website: Dimensions: 17-1/4 inches long, 9-4/5 inches wide (19-1/3 inches with grates) and 16-1/2 inches tall (23 inches with legs extended) Can use wood up to 16-1/2 inches long and 4 inches in diameter Door opening is 5-3/4 inches x 4-1/2 inches Easy setup and only takes a few minutes Firebox measures 16-3/4 inches long, 9 inches wide and 7-1/2 inches tall ... show more

  • Several burns, no issues!
Style: Caribou Backpacker - 14 Inch
I have used this stove for two camps and just for fun once. Works great for a cheap little stove. I wish it had a damper! The pipes will stick together and you won't be able to get them apart. In a true backpacking situation this could be an issue but I just loaded it up in the truck as the stack.

  • Dangerous
Style: Caribou Outfitter - 18 Inch
The media could not be loaded. I did everything per the directions i.e.… Taking paper and warming the pipe slowly so that it had a chance to get warm. The pipe will not come apart. It took someone else to help me get it apart which is a good thing because I was going camping by myself now all of the stainless steel is stuck together. There’s no packing this pipe up excepted to the back of your pick up truck. The worst part is… 2 gallons of hot water being thrown on me when the legs failed in the middle of the night. The pipe part that holds the other pipe to the stove snapped off because of the two tack welds. It’s not even welded properly. The legs are not secure. They have screws to tighten into stainless steel. However, there is no notch to tighten them. Tighten them as hard as you can because if you don’t, they’re going to give away in the middle of the night. Nothing like burning the bottom of a brand new $260 tent , because the stove fell over in the middle of the night. I got smoke inhalation from the amount of smoke that was put into my tent before I could get the pipe that was hanging out of the side of my stove jack in mid air out of the tent, which I almost grabbed with my bare hands thank God I didn’t there was a towel and I thought to grab it before throwing it out I wouldn’t have any skin on my hands. It also burned my hat that was on my head, but thank God it didn’t burn my skull because I had a hat on. that being said, don’t buy the stove it’s a hazard to anyone who owns it ... show more

  • Not a great design
Style: Caribou Outfitter - 18 Inch
I won't ever buy a woodstove with a rounded bottom again. The round shape makes the fire settle down the center of the stove which makes it more prone to choking itself out. The rounded shape also makes it more awkward to pack, making it take more precious space in my sled than necessary. Also, the stove pipe is too narrow and has no damper, making it more difficult to manage the fire/smoke/heat. I also had a problem disassembling the pipe after using it for a few days. The pipe sections fused together and I COULD NOT get the sections to separate. The sections fit each other way to snug. Pros: It still gets the job done. It was good enough for winter camping despite the design flaws. Weight isn't too bad with the leg extensions removed. The 18" model was a good size for winter camping. Price was reasonable Overall, I would not recommend. I wish I had spent a little more money for a square shape stove with a larger diameter pipe. ... show more
