  • Funny how many people have no clue how to use a wood stove.
For the price, I can't complain. Is this cheap, yes. Is the door as bad as many have described? Yes. Does it wobble on its legs? Yes. Is the paint regular non-high temp paint? Yes. And for all the other complaints some are making about this $70.00 stove, here are the answers. The unit is fairly heavy, so that was a nice surprise. The door is just a flat piece of metal. Will it work? Yes, but I would say that just about anyone using this stove seriously would want to make a better one. The legs are simply metal pipe that slide into a larger (about 2" long) metal pipe welded to the bottom of the stove. If the stove doesn't sit level, people, it's just light weight steel, it bends! Bend the leg to where the stove doesn't wobble anymore. Do as many have said, do your burn in outside and get the gloss black paint burned off, then repaint with high temp paint. For those who say it doesn't draw properly, I'll lay odds they had the rear vent open. When a fire is started the hot air goes up the flue pipe and if that back vent is open, guess where the cool air goes too? Much of it is drawn up the flue pipe which cools the air in the pipe and guess what - bad draw from the stove so smoke comes out the front. Leave the rear vent closed - always. Put the wood in the back of the stove to light it and get it going, not the front. Smoke (and the heat) are going to head the fastest way out possible. Having the wood up front, the door open, and the rear vent open, guess where the smoke and heat are going to head - right out the front. Once the wood in the back is lit it doesn't take long for the flue pipe to heat up and draw properly. Pile the rest of your wood in once you have the starting wood burning nicely, close the door and keep the front vents open - it'll keep burning without any problem. Don't put wet wood in and expect it to burn well. I had the stove assembled and burning in less than 10 minutes using dry seasoned wood. I used no paper or fire starting liquids to start dime to quarter sized seasoned kindling. After closing the rear vent, piling in my wood towards the back of the stove (mine came with a fire grate), I used Diamond Strike-A-Fire (http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Strike-A-Fire/dp/B00JA80SPU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1453510161&sr=8-3&keywords=Diamond+strike-a-fire) fire starters to get the stove burning. These fire starters are like super large matches made out of the same material as fire logs you can buy at the grocery store. I lit them and slid them on their side under the fire grate towards the back of the stove, and then closed the door. Within 2 minutes the gloss paint was pealing off because the fire was getting plenty hot. After that burned down I added some larger pieces of wood and let the stove cook for a while. I'll be making some of the modifications that others have mentioned here and on YouTube. I'll certainly be replacing the door with a custom one with a fiberglass seal and adding a Mica window as one owner on YouTube did with his. Now what about complaints? Well I only have one, but it's minor. As a few people have stated, the welding done on this stove is pretty poor. It wasn't until after dark when I saw a little light dancing around near the back of the stove that I knew something wasn't right. The welding of the rear stove plate to the back of the stove body has a few very small gaps that I will need to welded shut. Some might say that the stove should be tested before shipping - ok fine, add another $30.00 to the stove - it's a cheap stove, it's not going to be high quality. I'm very pleased with the stove. I expect no more for the price I paid, especially when the closest higher grade stove I could find as compact as this is in the $400.00 range. The handles and cooking tubes along with the tools and flue that all fit inside are great. If you're looking for a good deal and don't mind a few minor issues, than you'll be happy with this stove. If you expect quality and perfection for $70.00, you'll be greatly disappointed. By the way, if you're planning on using this in a tent as designed, it would be super. ... show more

  • LIGHT MY FIRE.....
TMS STOVE-2346 Portable Military Camping Tent I Hope our Military has better stoves than this....They deserve better anyways SIZE: best example is it is smaller than a 5 gallon bucket around and just a bit taller than a 5 gallon bucket Received on time...Early actually by 1 day. The box it came in was undamaged however there was a Dent near the door so it must have been dented prior to packaging other than that it was in good shape.. Fire tools racks, tater cook tubes, legs and chimney were all included like the description said and fit inside the stove Here are my observations: Paint: BAD...as other reviewers have said it burns off, It took me 3 hot fires to burn off the TOXIC paint and a wire wheel to remove the remaining paint. Welds: The welds look really really BAD however I found no holes Legs: Fairly sturdy, Stove seemed to be stable even when I placed 3 gallons of water in a large pot on top of the stove. Heat: Puts off a good amount of heat for it's size however the wood burns up quickly do to no flu. With a pan on the cooking racks the top of the stove turned glowing red and yes you can cook on it or rather in a pan on the stove Door: The hinge is loose so the door has more play than I would like, The latch will hold the door from opening but will not keep it closed. Other: Inside grate is welded in place. 2 3/4" Chimney works well After the spark screen was removed because fire would not burn with the screen in place. What I did to make my stove ready to use: 1st I burned the TOXIC paint off, It took me 3 HOT fires using seasoned oak filling the stove to the max, The paint smoke was much worse than I expected..It amazes me the manufacturer has not addressed the paint issue that is not only toxic to breath, but bad for the environment as well. It also brings the product ratings down. The stove also had wax??? dripping from the bottom cleanout during the 1st burn, it made a puddle about the size of a small saucer so be aware of where you are going to light it...A wood deck would not be a good choice. My firescreen in the chimney hindered the draw of the stove so it was removed I then used a wire wheel and a drill to remove any paint that remained. Then I wiped it down with alcohol and painted it with 2000 degree paint, 1 can did about 3-4 coats I had to make a new handle to keep the door closed tight, in my case I used a small metal curtain rod with the bend on the end, it was something I had, was easy to drill and fit in the slot with minimal customization. AFTER allowing the paint time to dry and cure It works very well after you learn what vents you want open and when. Special note: It is easy to have fire blowing from the top of the chimney much like a chimney fire in a regular house wood stove it can be very dangerous and the spark fire screen is highly recommended I WOULD buy this again, 60 bucks is a good price for this unit with it's flaws and reputation Oh ya no one discounted or gave me this product to review. ... show more
