Description

The UAD-2 OCTO Core DSP Accelerator is Universal Audio's most powerful PCIe processing card, giving audio producers and engineers massive power for running award-winning UAD plug-ins on Mac or PC. In creating UAD plug-ins, UA's DSP engineers work with the original hardware manufacturers - using their exact schematics, golden units, and experienced ears - to create fully authenticated plug-ins with all the warmth and harmonics of classic analog recording equipment. The UAD-2 OCTO Core features eight SHARC processors and is compatible with VST/AU/RTAS and AAX 64 and easily installs into a PCIe- equipped desktop computer or compatible expansion chassis (PCIe or Thunderbolt ), giving your workstation a significant boost in audio quality and mix processing power. The UAD-2 OCTO Core includes UA's "Analog Classics Plus" plug-in bundle, and provides access to popular UAD plug-in titles from Ampex, Manley, Lexicon, EMT, Empirical Labs, Neve, Roland, Fairchild, Harrison, Little Labs, Studer, SSL, and more (sold separately). I was very hesitated to buy expensive electronics on Amazon because I doubt the quality as many people reported that they received their items not brand new as sellers claim. But it was different with this seller. And the reason I came to Amazon for this expensive item was that I bought one from Sweetwater brand new, but it came with two yellow seals and one of them is broken. So I guess my item from Sweetwater was opened even though they claim it brand new. So, I found this seller AltoMusic on Amazon and they offer Prime shipping. Thus, I took my chance as I also wanted to see if UAD usually pack double yellow seals like the one I got from Sweetwater. The item from AltoMusic came intact and seriously brand new. There was no double yellow tags as you can see in the photos. The seller also used air shipping which is super fast. I really appreciate it. I am very happy with my purchase and I may come back for another card very soon. I would DEFINITELY recommend this seller. About the card, it can work with any INTEL PCIe lane on your main board. It is reported that 4 cores and 2 cores cards don’t work with AMD motherboard, so you should read carefully before buying this type of card if you are using AMD motherboard. There is no report of trouble regarding 8 cores card with AMD motherboard, though, but I wouldn’t try it nevertheless. Installation: (1) turn off your computer, (2) plug the card into the PCIe slot and secure the screw, (3) turn on your computer, (4) the card will take you to UAD website where you register your card, (5) if you have two cards like I do, UAD will give you option to choose six free extra plugins, (6) restart your computer, (7) open UAD control panel, (8) authorize your plugins and that’s it. UAD plugins are top not. The card is expensive but when you hear the sound from UAD plugins, all your pains will go away. Hahaha. By the way, I have two Apollo x8 interfaces and two of this card. I’m using Pro Tools 2022.10 on Windows 11 with Intel i9-10980xe CPU. That’s my config. Hope this help. ... show more

I love having maximum power for my beloved UAD plugins, and the UAD platform has always been extremely stable and reliable. But I think these cards are ridiculously overpriced, and resent the fact that I must have an Octo to run the power-hungry releases of the past few years. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I can't help but wonder if plugin efficiency is being back-burnered in order to spur hardware sales. ... show more

For some reason, all pictures of the UAD card do not show the connection ports... and the user manual is mysteriously non-existent on the UAD website. Conspiracy? Or maybe this soundcard is hiding the fact that it doesn't have the port that I need? Maybe I should drop a thousand bucks just to peak at the real instruction manual, and then refund? OR, you could just put the information on the internet like reasonable human beings. ... show more
