It works great and has a long range as long as you are on top of the mountains. It doesn’t work in the woods at all. If you are below the mountain top and there are woods, it doesn’t work in those conditions either. Really only for mountains or grassy plateaus

At first, I could not reach half a mile. I added. a TRAM 703-HC with a BNC male to UHF female adapter. The first time I turned it on I was speaking to someone in Colorado the second time I was speaking to someone in California. You’re not supposed to be able to talk to someone over 5 miles. brand new radio today before jeep trail ride this weekend. bought external antenna and $40 worth of batteries. (just in case)radio seemd to power on corrctly with 12v cigarette adpter. tried to switch betwen hi (4watts) and Lo(1watt). radio only showedPower Lo. snippy little support girl coruldn't tell me if the power LO switched to Power hi on the screen so i have no way of knowing if I'm on full power. can't have that in the middle of the everglades with pythons and stuff. So, I guess Uniden can pay freight both ways and send me another one. until they can fix their support.unless they can tell me otherwise I think its junk Edit update: 6/29/2020; NOTE. two of these and neither came with a charge adapter as stated onpage 6 of manual. called Uniden support (which sucks) and was told Sorry, not sorry. call amazon.so if you buy$25 worth of rechargeables nd expect them to charge in the radio, you will be disappointed. Amazon support, who was smarter than Uniden support (Mary) found an dapter fr the 401 that should work on this radio. a week later I will find out if Uniden and Amazon get the rdio suck up their #$$, and I will buy the Cobra.just tying to let evryone know. PS there's a little adapter in the box to use the cchrger port. Uniden support was too ignorant to know this. woul have saved themselve and mazon rturn freight on the firt radio. since then radio seeems to work well. won't ever buy Uniden nything agian. ... show more

I found this CB to be easy to use, but the portable antenna does not offer usable range when inside a vehicle. I purchased two of these for communicating between vehicles and I couldn't hear or be heard when I could see the second driver right behind me. We switched to the magnetic antenna and audio quality improved greatly, as did the range. Your mileage my vary but we then had no issues communicating in hilly terrain when we were not in sight of each other. A dedicated vehicle CB would be great but I needed the portability that this unit offers. I wouldn't hesitate purchasing this again but I would recommend sticking to that roof antenna whenever it's practical. ... show more

I am using this on the handlebars of a motorcycle, and I was led to believe it was waterproof. The first thing I read in the manual after I purchased it under warnings "Do NOT EXPOSE to water or high heat". Thanks for mentioning in your sales advertisements Uniden.

Bought this for my wife for Valentine’s Day, believe it or not! It’s what she wanted. She thought it would be a hoot to listen to the truckers out on the highway. We’ve had this thing for about a month and haven’t heard a single voice out of it. But we haven’t really gone out of town just local driving. Nothing but silence.….. hopefully when we go on a road trip next week we will pick up some chatter out on the interstate. maybe this technology is just too old school. ... show more
