In a nutshell, the Uniden gets an A+, the Rad450 a B+. Of course the uniden is twice as expensive so it should be better. But The RAD450 performed quite admirable for it's price. It is not quite as sensative as the uniden facing forward. For cops coming from the behind, the uniden definitely seems more effective. It takes awhile to figure out what is the best settings for these units. Both of their directions are decent but could be better. If you want to just set it and forget it use #5 for the uniden and #6 for the RAD450. The "quite ride" for the uniden works with the GPS speed. on the unit No sound below a certain speed. This works perfectly for filtering out useless parking lot and stop light false alerts. Because the uniden can also mute specific locations it is even more versatile for filtering falsie's. I did not use this in any of my tests. Because the RAD450 doesn't have GPS, it's "quite ride" works differently. An audio will sound for a few seconds (2 or 3 beeps) then go silent. If it doesn't have a 30-40 second space between alerts, it will remain silent even if it gets a new alert (it will always display the alert). This works quite well for parking lots since you are getting many multiple alerts rapidly. Yet, this shouldn't be a problem while driving highway or city. In the driving test below I had all kinds of falsie's on the old radar including the blind spot radars used on cars. While following a Chevy equinox on the highway, my old unit cycled on and off continuously while behind this car. Both the uniden and RAD450 were totally silent. They didn't register any alerts. Other cars caused the same thing in my old unit but I couldn't identify which car was the source. The other 2 units remained silent. I was fortunate that the day of testing, Cops were everywhere so I got good data. I didn't get the actual distance on the city speeding trap, but both the Uniden and RAD450 were equal distances and gave enough warning to slow down. The old unit gave maybe enough warning. In summary, the uniden is a terrific unit. Spending anymore I think is a waste of money. If you can't afford the $250 price tag, the RAD450 is a pretty good unit and option. Anything cheaper than the RAD450 will most likely behave just like my old 7000 which is rendered useless due to falsie's. Also, as an aside note, the "intellimute" option on the RAD450 does not work on a 2004 Lexus rx330. Supposedly, the unit can tell the RPM of the engine through voltage spikes in the electrical system. My guess is that it won't be able to read most cars so don't count on this as a useful filter option. Regardless,The RAD450 works well enough for the price. So, I am keeping both; The uniden for my main car, and the RAD450 for my second car. I should be well protected in both less all those annoying falsies! Hope this review helps.     • Perfect First Radar Scanner!!
This is the first radar scanner I have ever bought. I didn’t want to drop 500+ on a main brand one and instead looked for a more entry level radar scanner. I looked through many options but decided to buy this one in the end. I made the right choice! Everything works amazing on it! Even though it doesn’t have an LCD, the screen gives you all of the info you need. The mute memory is my favorite feature so you can mute the speed signs all over town. The range works great although could be longer. It picks up the radar signals very consistently and gets every signal mentioned! I also love the radar filtering because I am not constantly getting false alarms. Once you have all of the speed signs marked on the radar scanner, it will almost exclusively go off for police radar scanners. I would 100% recommend this to anyone getting their first radar scanner!! ... show more

I owned 3 of these DFR7 Detectors and thru the years 2 of them garbled the sound system, the last one I bought in 2018, and now use it in my truck and my car when I use them. It is a great Detector to own, I am looking to buy another one, but not Shure of the Brand because of the sound , like the 2 other ones I have. I am taking my time to study the other Brands. And, NO, I did not contact Uniden on the 2 other I have, probably out of warranty. ... show more

    • Best bang for your buck in radar detectors!
I have been able to own several different radar detectors and this is one of the best bang for your buck detectors that you can buy. A lot of people complain about false detects on this detector, but it does not come default with the K band and Ka filters. You have to turn these on yourself through the menu system and once these filters are on, this radar detector becomes a dream to use. I usually have mine set on the "Highway" setting since setting it on the City setting will disable the X Band from detecting, and some police like to use the X Band (Lidar) in my city. Overall, in terms of range and accuracy I would compare this to some of the higher-end escort radars. HOWEVER, the escort radars have the added benefit of having arrows that point to the direction that the signal is coming from. This detector does not have arrows but it does show you how close or strong the signal is by a light bar. I would highly recommend this to anyone that isn't looking to spend too much money on a radar detector but still wants the safety of one. I've owned it for about 3 weeks and it's saved me from 2 tickets! Definitely paid for itself. ... show more

    • I know there's a highway patrol before they even see me! 100% accuracy so far.
Love this radar detector! Originally bought it to use when i'm towing my jet skis, but once i figured out what bands i should be scanning for I hardwired it in my commuter car. I have it tuned to detect CHP frequencies since I only care about getting scanned on the fway. Never get any false positives anymore. Anyone complaining about the accuracy of this detector needs to find out what bands their local/state LEO's use (Google will help you with this) and have it set to those specific bands. This thing has paid for itself a couple times by now. I recommend purchasing a different suction cup mount because the one it comes with is pretty mediocre at best. ... show more
