  • Nice for the Price !
Size: One Size
I bought this scanner to replace a 30 year old one that I bought back then for $99, which was also a Uniden Scanner. A reminder before you buy, make sure the agencies you want to hear are not digital or trunking as this scanner will not pick them up. Most of what I want to hear in my area are still on analog FM as they have been for decades. Right out of the box, in a few minutes I had entered known active frequencies in my area and the scanner came to life. I found some videos on Youtube that made entering frequencies quick and a lot easier than using the supplied owners manual. The supplied telescopic antenna does a surprisingly good job as the sensitivity of this scanner is quite good. As a departure from older scanners, the antenna is now a BNC connector instead of the older style Motorola Connector. The ability to pick up weaker and more distant signals is greatly enhanced by the use of an external outdoor type Scanner Antenna. I connected a Discone Scanner Antenna which really brought up weaker signals and brought in distant ones that I was not able to get with the supplied telescopic antenna. The audio quality is excellent from the small front mounted speaker and sounds like the audio has been contoured for voice. Plenty of sound and if you desire more there is an audio output jack on the back of the unit. I have had this scanner on for about a week since taking it out of the box and giving it a few off and on cycles. I have not had a chance to try it on all of the frequency bands it has but it so far has worked well on public service lo and hi bands, amateur radio 2 meter band and the instant access weather channels. It is a lot of scanner for the price as long as what you want to listen to is still operating on conventional FM Non Digital transmission modes. If you want digital and trunking scanning you will have to go with something more substantial. ... show more

  • Hours of enjoyable listening at a really thoughtful price... BC365CRS
Size: One Size
The Bearcat BC365CRS is a very nice radio. Listening to Military/Commercial Aviation daily via Davis Monthan AFB from my apartment. Tucson International is just beyond that. While I can't really use an external antenna at the apartment, the standard telescoping antenna supplied gives me a very sufficient signal strength for virtually all my listening. Amateur radio on 2 Meters and on 440 is clear. General Pima County services are quite clear. While the main Tucson Police Department is a trunked 800 MHz system and NOT covered by this radio, the remainder of city services and MedEvac helicopter are interesting to listen to. FM reception is quite adequate. Sound is exceptional considering the size of the speaker. Based on what I hear coming in on the NOAA Weather frequencies - the Mt Lemmon Transmitter is alright but not great quality. This isn't a scanning receiver issue. Their WX transmitter is only marginal. Alarm function is good. Either turn on the radio or tone with enough tone kick to wake anyone up. Compared to a regular Alarm Clock the alarm settings aren't as easy to use as a dedicated digital clock though. Search modes by Service and programming those frequencies into memory is pretty straightforward . Five Stars. ... show more

  • One Sweet Working Scanner!
Size: One Size
Small size but still loaded with some great extra features. For anyone just getting into using a regular scanner or a back-up ... this is your winner! Comes with a small antenna but still receives most signals you will want to hear and add an outdoor antenna later. Complete with AC wall power supply and a small user manual. Scanner case is plastic with touch button controls and an orange glow back lighted display which is easy to see in most lighting. Receiver is very good for Hi-band VHF, Weather, Fire, Police and EMS. Lo-band VHF and UHF were good but not the quality of Hi-band VHF. Radio has Alarm Clock and FM radio with a 3-cell AA battery backup for clock. Channels say in memory even with no AC power and do not need battery backup. Scanner is medium level easy to program for a newbie but one must read the user manual first and no computer is needed for use. Using the scanner can be a small learning curve of two to four hours of hands on use. This is one nice scanner to hear the latest what's happening in my local area now. Anyone wanting a good scanner this is the one to buy! I will follow - up post later. ... show more

  • Great scanner for the price
Size: One Size
This is a great scanner for the price point. I was looking for something inexpensive to add to my growing radio collection for the purpose of picking up police/fire/ems radio. I live in a rural area and all still use legacy FMN for communications so this seemed like a good fit. I have other radios I use for aircraft, ham, weather etc.. so I doubt I'll use those features on this radio but again for the price it's hard to believe all of that is included. The antenna is kind of a joke. It works well enough but it's a push and turn version of a BNC connector that never really locks into place and easily moves around. But I guess it's adequate for something that is going to sit on my desk. There's several videos on YouTube on how to search, scan and program which obviated the need for me to really even look at the provided instructions. The website radioreference had all my local frequencies listed and within a few minutes I had all programmed and was scanning. I like the shortcut buttons directly under the display. If things are quiet in my area, I can hit the SVC button and selection police or fire/ems to pick up all frequencies within range (i.e. other municipalities I'm not scanning). I found the radio was able to pick up signals from 25 plus miles away very clearly. Overall I'm satisfied based on my first impressions. ... show more

  • Slightly Disappointed
Size: One Size
I originally purchased this scanner to supplement a 1989 vintage Bearcat 210XLT to be able to scan my local PD, FD, EMS "extra" frequencies". With the 210XLT only having 2 banks of 20 channels each, I was not able to have the capacity that I wanted. I thought that by having 10 banks of 50 channels each plus a much faster scan speed, this would fill the bill perfectly. To say I am slightly disappointed is a bit of an understatement. First off, the programming is not as difficult as some reviewers have indicated. Yes, it is a slightly different process than the 210XLT, but just read the instructions and you will be fine. My two biggest complaints are that the reception doesn't come anywhere close the the 210XLT. I have programmed them to the exact frequencies and sitting a few feet apart. The 365CRS only picks up approximately 60 percent of the transmissions that the 210XLT receives and most of the time it ends up dropping the transmission. I have tried programming on multiple banks and the problem still persists. My other complaint is regarding the quality of the built-in speaker. This speaker is pretty much next to useless. The audio sounds "tinny" and is difficult to understand. I plan to hook up a better quality external speaker in hopes of at least correcting this issue. I also have the squelch on both units set as sensitive as it will go but the reception has not improved. I have also tried relocating the unit and nothing has changed. If you plan to buy this with the hopes of listening to FM, you might as well forget that. I am virtually on top of an FM station and can just barely receive their programming. In closing, before you buy this, I would check out flea markets, auctions, etc and try to pickup an "older" Bearcat scanner if you want to stay with the brand. It is disheartening to see another brand go down the tubes as far as quality is concerned. If your locale is anticipating on changing to digital in the future, I would hold off and invest in digital equipment. Unfortunately, my area and surrounding counties have no plans to convert to digital in the near future. ... show more

  • Some excellent features, but some not so much.
Size: One Size
The item I received was a used product. The box was opened and had an Amazon sticker covering a previous return label. The radio works and seems to be pretty sensitive. It’s built in speaker is loud and clear, but the programming procedure is difficult. Older Uniden radios I have owned were straightforward. It has a weather emergency alarm function that covers all weather channels and several other types of alert which cannot be disabled or set for specific alerts only. In addition, the measurements listed in the item description are incorrect. The unit was much larger than described and didn’t fit in the spot I had my old unit. I have returned it for a refund. ... show more

  • Best priced scanner out there.
Size: One Size
Probably the best reasonably priced scanner on the market. Extremely easy to use. I do suggest going to YouTube and searching out a video on how to program it only because it is easier than trying to read the instructions. The instructions are clear, but I just think seeing it helps more. You'll be a pro at it within 2 minutes. I cannot say enough how this is the best scanner for your money at a beginner's level. I love how crystal clear the reception is and it is nice to have the emergency weather channel pre-programmed into it. Make sure you keep some batteries in case you have an outage so you can keep up on the weather. ... show more
