Two things, from a Mexican: 1. Saw some reviews mentioning it was dusty on arrival - that's how it should be! You must wash and season your molcajete before you use it! Wash with soap and rinse first, then grind a handful of rice against it until they're mostly dust, then repeat until the ground up rice doesn't look a grayish color and the bowl feels nice and smooth. Then you rinse (only water) and grind up salt and garlic, then rinse again (only water!), let it dry completely, and you're ready to use! 2. Also saw reviews mentioning imperfections or chips - again, another sign of a genuine molcajete! If they are tooo perfect then they are probably not made of real stone. All that being said, I absolutely love mine 💛 great size, great quality of stone, nice shape - lovely all around.

I love to learn and one of the areas where I can satisfy that love is through cooking. I decided to start doing more of the Mexican food dishes but I am a perfectionist. If I am going to do something I want to go as authentic as possible. This mortar bowl and pestle is the perfect size for a good amount of guacamole and is perfect for creating marinades for fajitas, tacos, and I used it for my prime rib rub and it was fantastic to be able to get the fusion of all of the herbs and spices mixed in. There was a noticeable difference. I highly recommend it and if you have someone that enjoys cooking...it is a great gift. Very sturdy...does not slide around even on a granite counter.

Has some rough tooling lines, but that’s expected at such a fair price point. I was attracted to this design hoping a larger “ball” grip pestle would be easier to use with arthritis. I was completely wrong! The size creates more rub and friction in the hand during use than a standard pestle. Only reason I reduced a star. Otherwise, a lovely and affordable piece to use in the kitchen!

The media could not be loaded. I’ve wanted to purchase one of these for a long time. I’m very happy with my choice. It’s very heavy and sturdy. Nice quality. I plan on purchasing a smaller one just for crushing spices.
