With dismay, I learned Big Agnes no longer has a pad for my older sleeping bag. Fortunately, I found a compatible replacement with Gear Doctors! We ordered this for our son who was going on a multi-day backcountry river kayaking trip. This pad is well made and seems to insulate well, he said he had no issues with being cold even though the temperatures dropped a night as well as the ground being damp due to proximity to water. It folds up small and is lightweight, super easy to pack into a kayak. Huge bonus that you don't have to carry a pump. The pump sack it comes with inflates the pad easily and a big plus is it can double as a dry bag. I did add seam seal to the seams, but he was able to use it to store items in his kayak and it kept everything dry. Overall we are very happy with this purchase, would highly recommend.

If you’re on a budget then this is hard to beat. However it is somewhat on the small side, has some crinkling noise to it when in use, and can be difficult to inflate (this may just be a valve problem for mine). It’s fairly comfortable but don’t expect an at home mattress experience. I had no problems with leaking whatsoever. And overall it is very portable and surprisingly durable. Setting it up is very easy, and takes a few minutes with the included bellows.

This pad is a thick, lighter & compact pad. It appears to be 3.25" thick, and I would assume that it achieves its high R-value of 5.2 for insulation. It is not very noisy when fully inflated and I move around on it (much less so that a Neo Air). It weighs in on my scale at 19oz, not 16. Which is only 1oz lighter than my standard Thermorest. It is very compact as it arrived, probably a half or a third the volume of my standard Thermorest (tho somewhat larger than some Klymit ultralight pads I have). This and its insulating value make it a prime candidate for shoulder season camping trips & all backpacking/bikepacking trips. It has great insulating & cushioning for a very reasonable amount of bulk. The funky air pillow blow up method can be skipped entirely. I blew up the pad thru the unclosed mouth, then when it was mostly filled closed the seal and continued to blow it up (against some resistance). Using the air pillow may keep moisture out of the bag, but adds another item to bring on a trip, and since it is unnecessary I'm not likely to use it. The offer on Amazon suggests their "lifetime warranty" is pretty generous. The warranty that arrives with the pad is much less so: "...warrantied for the life of the product against defects in materials & workmanship, Should the Air Mattress be found defective under this warranty, we will repair it or replace it at our cost. NORMAL WEAR, PUNCTURE, ABRASION, MISUSE, ALTERATION, ABUSE, OR TAKING APART THE PRODUCT IS NOT COVERED. " So it a warranty for an indefinite lifetime of the product only, and excludes the mostly likely causes of permanent failures. The pad came with what appeared to be two 2" square pieces of paper with repair kit instructions on them. I'm told that that IS the repair kit, and that I just need to press a patch over a puncture. However, I've been unable to separate the two layers if these are indeed patches. Better to use Tenacious Tape or something more professional if the pad does spring a leak. All in all, a compact & effective air mattress at a very fair price relative to competitors. And its not very noisy.

I purchased the Apollo Air mattress for use during my spring thru fall bike packing trips. Having had a competing brand spring multiple air leaks after only five uses over two years, I was looking for a better-quality mattress. To this end, the limited lifetime warranty sealed the deal. I initially had some difficulty inflating my mattress with the air sack provided. The Gear Doctors customer service department addressed my complaint to a more than satisfactory degree, providing a replacement. Although I've only used the mattress for one trip, I was most satisfied with the experience. It is light and folds and packs easily taking up far less space in my panniers than my prior mattress. I slept comfortably, awaking only once nightly, due more to my septuagenarian bladder than the mattress. At 5'8" and 173 lbs., I fit comfortably on the mattress, but taller or wider individuals may want to check the dimensions more closely.

I purchased this pad as a backup for my Big Agnus. I go on a Colorado high country hunting trip every Sept. I compared the 2 side by side and have some information for others if interested. Cost The top quality pads are traditionally around $200 but this pad is half of that. Also, this pad comes with an inflation bag. I had to purchase that separate with the Big Agnus as you can see the orange inflater bag is from Sea to Summit. Weight Gear Dr (GD) - 16.8 oz Big Agnus Q Core SLX (BA) - 17.6 oz Size and Shape As you can see, the GD is a little longer and has more of a mummy shape. It also packs down a little smaller. Take into consideration that I have used the BA many times before and that the GD is new and we all know things are smaller new as you can never get them back into the original packaging. Noise This is always the challenge with UL pads. They may be super light, but they sound like you are rolling around on a snare drum. I had the NeoAir pad in the past and it was light as could be but too noisy for me. The BA is slightly quieter and it has a softer feel to the touch. I have not slept on the GD pad yet but in my initial comparison, it does not seem to be significant. Nights on the pad will tell. Considerations and Opinions The BA pad has the ability to inflate it and push a value to let air out a little at a time. This allows easy adjustment to your preferred comfort. The GD pad does not. However, I under inflated the GD pad and then just added air a breath at a time and this was an easy fix. In my opinion, I think this pad will be great for back sleepers. The baffles are left to right. I prefer up and down baffles as (at least in my head) this helps me from rolling off the pad at night. Overall, I really like this pad and plan to test it next month to see how it performs in the mountains. I was not able to rate the sleeping comfort at this time but by initial assessment is positive. I prefer a slightly under-inflated pad to over-inflated for my sleeping comfort. Beginners traditionally inflate to max fill and then the pad is more like a trampoline than a sleeping pad. I made this mistake early in my backpacking but not anymore. Overall, I think this pad has a lot of potential. It's less than half the cost and lighter in weight that my current pad. For the younger cost conscious back sleepers out there, I think this is certainly an item where you can save a few bucks and still get a good UL pad. The cost to weight ratio is excellent. Take the money you save here and put that toward a better bag or quilt. This may also serve the side sleepers out there... Time will tell as to the quality and durability but the company has a lifetime warranty. Overall, I would recommend this purchase and have recommended it to others that are going on the trip with me this Sept.

I want to caveat that I am writing this review solely as a backpacker! I got this sleeping pad to replace my big bulky Klymit insulated static V pad. I had been eyeballing the therma rest Xlite and Xtherm for months but could not pull the trigger on 200 plus dollars for a pad. Then this baby showed up on amazon and the rest is history. You can see from my photos that this pad it slightly longer but much thinner then the Klymit when packed. Compared to my Klymit, you really can toss it anywhere in your pack. This pad weighs about 21.2 oz including stuff sack, pump sack and repair kit which is almost half a pound lighter then my Klymit which only includes the pad and stuff sack. If you leave the stuff sack home, the combination clocks in just over 18 oz which is pretty awesome for the price. The dimensions of the pad are a little more restricted then my Klymit but that is how you get the weight savings. You can see that the pad is sufficiently wide and tall for a full length down sleeping bag. To quickly comment on the specs, I have seen many reviewers mention this pad being to short and narrow. This is basically a knock off of the Therma Rest X lite which is the best selling pad on the market for 200 plus dollars and those specs are only 72x20x2.5 compared to this pad at 72x23x3.2. I think this is where you need to consider the use of this pad. Would I buy this to crash at a friends or car camp when you can get a queen bed/electronic pump for 30 dollars at walmart? Absolutely not! Would I buy this to cut weight for extended backpacking trips? Absolutely yes! Moving on from that rant. The pad performs extremely well and I have used it in temperatures down to 27 degrees F on Mt Baldy. I am not sure I would quote the R value of 5.2 but this definitely mimics the 4.4 value of my Klmit. I saw a few folks mention the potato chip/popping sounds but I fortunately haven't had those noises with mine. Once again, remember those are also negatives of the best selling 200 plus dollar therma rest pad. Additionally, the pad is extremely easy to inflate and deflate. Pictures illustrate it better but the valve has two stacked ports, one on top to inflate and one on bottom to deflate. The inflation valve is a one way system so air won't come out after breathing in. The included pump sack is a godsend and fits perfectly on the top part of the stacked valve. If your rough during inflation, of course the bag could pop loose but this hasn't happened to me yet. Overall for 80 dollars, this is an amazing ultralight 4 season backpacking sleeping pad that I would recommend to anyone who can't stomach the cost of the therma rest pads. If only they could get the weigh of this pad to around a pound, my life would be complete.

Let me start by saying that I had been asked by the company owner to review the product right after I had received it in the mail. I didn't do that. I wanted to truly test it before writing anything about it. I bought it to be used during my Pacific Crest Trail thruhike, which took about 5 months to complete. My body has a hard time regulating its temperature. It's always too hot or way too cold. Coming from Hawaii where my body only knew what 70⁰ and 80⁰ temperatures were, I was scared I'd be cold at night on those 20-40⁰ nights in the California desert all the way up the the Canadian border in September's cold temps. I have a Dan Durston X-Mid 2p tent. I slept on the Gear Doctors Apollo Air pad and used the Hyke & Byke Eolus 0⁰F 800FP Goose Down sleeping bag. I slept comfortably on most nights. Whenever temps got colder than 35⁰F, I'd sleep with all my layers, be a bit cold, but it was fine. I was only super cold whenever my feet had slid off the pad. Which proves its efficiency. Another thing to notice is that even though the pad does make sounds when you move around, it was one of the quietest pad out on the trail. Thermarests SUCK! They are soooo loud that I couldn't sleep a few nights because other hikers nearby were using that pad. Even with earplugs, I'd still hear the thermarest! The Apolo Air definitely kept me warm on most nights, was super easy to deflate and fold into it's little bag. However, the inflating bag isn't that great, especially for the extra weight. It also failed on me. It had a leak right on the grey valve. Making it super slow to inflate it. So I ended up ditching the inflation bag and inflated the pad by mouth after the Sierra Nevada. Which I know probably decreased the durability and usability of the pad. Because it'll create mold on the inside since there's a lot of moisture in our breath, especially if compared to the dry air pumped in by the inflation bag. I wish it was a little bit lighter in weight and a higher R value. But considering its ok R-Value and durability, plus a more affordable price under the $100 mark, you can't beat it! A lot of my friends on the trail slept cold and or had to deal with the extremely loud noise from their super expensive pads. So I'm super happy with my purchase and I hope it won't get moldy. We shall see. Overall, I recommend this sleeping pad for nights in the 30⁰F all the way up to the 100⁰F. Thanks Gear Doctors for a great product! I posted a photo of the pad after 5.5 months of using it pretty much every night. My 5 year old goddaughter is laying on it. It got dirty, but still functions perfectly, minus the inflation bag. Update: I have since switched to the Thermarest X-therm before the Florida Trail and the Continental Divide Trail. I'm very glad I switched because I encountered temps as low as 12⁰F, with a 20⁰F Western Mountaineering sleeping bag and I was never cold! I didn't even carry a puffy jacket along those 4K miles. I probably would have survived with the Gear Dr pad, but with the Thermarest, I was comfortably warm n cozy.
