Our steel cable has two problems. The first is that there are a few kinks that happen when the steel rope drops down between wraps. This causes broken wires which cut you if you don't have gloves and just plain annoying if you do have gloves. A weak spot for sure. The other problem is that the steel cable wants to expand and "birdnest" on you if you don't have tension on the cable and you are on the first or second wrap. Inexpensive and easy to install. Requires synthetic cable fairlead. Roller fairleds will chafe synthetic cable and cause cable failure

I bought this rope to replace my metal winch cable that would slice your hands. This came with decent instructions and seems sturdy and strong. I haven’t actually had to use it to pull my Grizzly out yet so I can’t say for sure but I will update if it fails me.
