If you value deep bass response and strong power in this form factor this is the one to get. I have owned dozens of portable speakers, many recent ones from Tribit, JBL, Soundcore, Bose etc in this size and they don't come close to overall output and bass extension. The bass also has impact and keeps most of the extension at a pretty high level, where most others start to cut off bass at lower levels. It definitely has a considerable amount of watts pushing the drivers vs others in this size category. Sometimes though you might have to back down the bass a touch as distortion can make it's way in just slightly, but easily corrected and not egregious. Clarity is great and has a relatively uncolored frequency response, but only if you are positioned directly in front of the tweeter. If you go off axis more than like 30 degrees you get a fairly steep falloff in the highs and sound becomes more muddled. Not the best if you place it in a room and walk around. I feel like the tweeter is positioned too deeply into the body which is why this is the case. Another annoyance is some of the volume steps are too much and some too little. It's not consistent throughout the volume adjustment range. Last complaint would be it's awkward to transport in a bag as it rolls around and the power button is a large round dial that's very easy to accidentally push on while transporting. Carrying it around in a backpack for 1 hour made itself turn on like 10 times. If you value power and bass extension in the smallest for factor though you will be happy.

I’ve had two of the big ones for over a year now. Love them, and this’baby’ here is wonderful. These speakers are different, quite possibly ahead of their time. You not only hear the beautiful music, you literally feel it. Looking forward to the next speaker this company comes up with.

I like the sound of this speaker when played in a large or medium-sized room, like my living room. It also sounds good outdoors. The mid and high are clear and well composed. The base is rich and thumping. I measured with a sound meter app on my iPhone; the sound spectrum is flat down to about 45 Hz and up to 10 kHz, comparable to my Sony speaker three times the size and price. I am also impressed by the sound's cleanliness, given the form factor, without undue distortion. On the other hand, it does not sound good as a computer speaker when placed near me (within 4.5 ft) in a small bedroom. The down-firing woofer and side-firing radiators, coupled with the front mid-high driving, just don't sound right. For that, I revert to my traditional speakers with all drivers facing the front. Overall, it's a good-looking speaker with big sound from a small enclosure, and I think the price is right.

When plugged into a computer this will present as a USB speaker and "just work" including the volume adjustment adjusting the computer system volume. This is a surprising and undocumented bonus for me. I expected to use the aux input. The soind is impressive and punchy while also being clear on the highs. I dare not push it to full power as even half volume is enough to potentially summon neighbors I wouldn't want to take this speaker to a beach for example. But its ideal for desktop, kitchen, and just general lifestyle use. The downfacing speaker means I wouldn't want to put it on an uneven surface. Or even say a towel that might muffle the sound. The build quality feels OK. Its mid but I wouldn't call it cheap. The sound dial is a nice touch and feels pleasent to use. Overall I would recommend so far.

I previously reviewed the larger UB+ Pro and was genuinely impressed by its performance, so I was very curious to see how the dBMiNi would compare. As expected, this is a smaller speaker, and that naturally comes with some tradeoffs, especially in the low end. It does not have the deep, room filling bass of its bigger sibling. That said, for its size, it still delivers more bass than many other compact Bluetooth speakers I have tested. The sound signature is clean and well balanced. Mids and highs come through clearly, making vocals and acoustic tracks sound crisp and detailed. The dual bass design helps give it a fuller presence than most speakers in this size category. It will not shake the walls, but for outdoor use, travel, or casual listening around the house, it performs very well. Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity has been stable in my experience, with quick pairing and no noticeable dropouts during normal use. Battery life has also been solid and easily handles extended listening sessions without constantly needing a recharge. Where I do see room for improvement is water resistance. For something clearly marketed toward outdoor and travel use, I would have liked to see a higher level of protection. It feels sturdy and well made, but I would still be cautious around water. I also struggled with the TWS pairing feature. I was not able to successfully get it to work, either with another UB speaker or with different compatible speakers. I had similar issues with the larger model, so this seems to be a consistent weak point in my experience. Overall, I like this speaker and would recommend it, especially if the larger UB+ Pro is too big for your needs or outside your budget. You give up some bass compared to the flagship model, but for its compact size, the dBMiNi still delivers impressive sound and a premium feel.
