  • Not correct for automatic transmission
Packaged well. As others have said, the trans cooler line are straight, not at 90° angle as OEM. This requires that you either remove the aluminum base pan or cut out nipple areas so you can extend the hoses straight rather than kinking them with the pan installed. I cut mine, hoses were fine. Speaking of trans hoses, these suckers are in a very hard spot to reach your hand into. The squeeze type clamps and stuck on hoses were an additional 45 minutes of cussing. Ok. Set the radiator into place and began fitting the clamps on to secure in place.......hmmm, the plastic mounting pins on top were off just slightly. I fit one clamp on and then grunted and pushed the radiator over slightly and was able to get the other clamp bolt in the hole. Geez, what a pia......and I have a hoist in my shop!! Long story short, I suggest bypassing this radiator and spending another $10 - 20 bucks for a more precisely made unit ....one that also comes with trans cooler angled lines / or adapters. ... show more

  • Perfect!
I bought this for my MANUAL non-turbo Forester. Yes, it works for both auto and manual transmissions. I didn't need the transmission cooler lines so I jut left the caps on them. I'm not sure why some people claim it won't work... I've always used "automatic" radiators in my manual cars. They seem to be more readily available. This seems to be a much better alternative to the $150 radiators that all the major parts stores sell for these cars. I couldn't get myself to spend that much especially when they don't even keep them in stock locally. So I ordered this for half the price. The packaging was beautiful and not a single fin was bent when I opened the box. It perfectly matched the radiator that was in my 2003 Forester already. Took me a total of 30 minutes from start to finish to replace. I'm not a noob when it comes to car repairs but I'm also not a pro. All the mounts lined up perfectly. The holes for the fan screws were 1/8 inch off but it wasn't a problem getting the screws in. So far it is holding pressure and there are no leaks. I will update this if anything does go wrong in the near future. ... show more

  • Worked for 03 Forester
Pro-tip: Go ahead and order a new thermostat and radiator cap while you're at it. Neither are included, they are cheap to replace, and if you are swapping radiators then those two things are also likely near the end of their service lives. The cap is a no-brainer. The thermostat hides in the elbow pipe at the bottom of the block (coming from the hose at the driver-side bottom of the radiator). The radiator seems high-quality enough. It is just about impossible to find auto parts, especially discount ones, that aren't made in China anymore. However, not all of them are low quality. This one seems about par with the one I replaced. Impressively, the original radiator made it until 170-180k before it started leaking (apparently at the metal/plastic seam). Was not worth my time to try to hunt down the leak (and there were likely more than one), plus it's amazing it lasted that long. Very simple to replace on this generation of forester. Two hoses for the coolant, two hoses for the transmission fluid. Take the caps from the new radiator and put them on the ATF inlet/outlet of the old one before removal so it doesn't spill everywhere. Also there's a petcock on the side of the radiator, you can use that to drain the coolant before removal - I did not do this and it made a big mess. Don't forget to be EXTREMELY CAREFUL if you have pets or if there are animals in your neighborhood. It doesn't take much of this sweet-smelling stuff to kill a critter. It pays to keep some kitty litter or other absorbant around, plus I like to have the rolls of absorbant fabric around as well. All of this is cheap insurance. All in all, this is an easy replacement for any moderate home mechanic. If all you've done is an oil change then there might be a learning curve, but otherwise it's a simple swap. ... show more

  • Excellent product. It was a perfect fit for my ...
Excellent product. It was a perfect fit for my 2003 Subaru Forester. Locally, they wanted $185.00 plus labor to replace the radiator in my Subaru. I decided to give it a go myself. Took maybe an hour. A lot of that time was just looking for the right tool, crawling under the car, etc. etc. etc. The things that you have to do when you're a rank amateur. But the good thing about this project was that I did it, didn't have to take it anywhere else, saved at least 75 or 80% of the cost, and the wonderful satisfaction that I did it myself, with nary a hitch. Another thing is the fans, came off the old radiator and onto the new one with I think, just 3 bolts. Really and I hate to keep bringing this up was it as so easy. Find a youtube video, look a couple of times. Make sure you have the few tools that it requires and do-it-yourself. Also the price was excellent, the product was excellent and the delivery on the radiator was two days with prime, just as advertised. Look for some of the Scotty Kilmer videos on youtube just to get the I CAN DO IT, feeling, rev your engines and go for it. ... show more

  • Worked great on Manual 2003 Subaru Forester 2.5XS
The media could not be loaded. I was a little nervous after reading other reviews stating that this didn’t work for their forester, but I went for it and I’m glad I did! It came protected with foam inserts so it was well packaged and didn’t have any damage. Super easy to install. There are transmission line hookups as others have said, but due to having a manual, I just left the caps on and the radiator fit in perfectly. I had a large crack in the upper part of my old radiator that made coolant spit onto the whole engine at an alarming rate. Since replacing the radiator she’s running smooth and slightly cooler than I did with the old radiator! ... show more
