  • Great sound, iffy Bluetooth implementation.
Fantastic product. Good sound, easy to use remote. Strange speaker connections on the rear (twists for the front, spring-loaded for all other speakers). Bluetooth implementation needs some work though. Even when using a low-latency set of Bluetooth headphones AND selecting the low latency setting when pairing the headphones, still had sync issues with vocals. The receiver won't play back music via AppleTV when using Bluetooth headphones, but the manual does warn you that not all playback sources may be available with Bluetooth. Not a deal breaker but I did have to get an external Bluetooth transmitter/receiver device and run it through the Zone B hookup. Over all, a good buy and definitely worth the money. ... show more

  • Surround is great
So,I blew up my last Onkyo..was the nr676..literally parts were smoking..had so many update issues with it..decided to go with this one..less power but still rocks pretty good..very clear and for some reason the surround works soo much better out of this one, very distinct ..love the quick controls on the remote for tone..I switch a lot due to jamming or movie..some times I like more bass, sometimes I don't.. I recommend this reciever for sure..mains are old klh 15in woofers 4 way..sub,self powered, 2 rears are bookshelf klipsch 6 inch 2 way.. center is klipsch 3 way... running 5.1.. does do 7.1 but I don't have ... show more

  • Almost 5 stars
Sounds great , Easy to set up the only thing that held me back from 5 stars was the little teeny tiny twist and clamp speaker wire set up for the majority of your speaker wires, I have ran 12 gauge wire to all my in wall and ceiling speakers and it took me hours to get these to work with my large wires. My other Onkyo Receiver accepts all banana clips and worked well. I did not even notice that this one was different. It is apparently designed for really small speaker wire. ... show more

  • Stay away
Got this receiver for its HDMI 2.1 capabilities. To its credit, it will pass through vrr 4k 120hz, but the handshake issues make it a pain to use. When I first got the receiver the HDMI switching was painfully slow. Going from in game fullscreen to the desktop and back took forever. Going from one HDMI input to another took forever. Onkyo released a firmware update a few months after launch and now the HDMI switching is very fast. I wish that was the only issue. As mentioned before there are serious handshake issues. Booting up a game, I pretty much always have no sound. You will see the display of the receiver blinking the speaker indicators off and on as it tries to find the sound signal. It never does. The only way to get sound is to either change resolution on game and after it switches the sound comes on. I then click cancel when the game asks if I want to keep the new resolution still that I go back to the one that I wanted in the first place. This is extremely annoying too have to do every single time but if that were the only issue I would begrudgingly accept it. It is not. I can also get sounds to work in game if I disconnect three HDMI cable and reconnect or if I switch inputs and back. All annoying solutions. The other issue is that the handshake is so wonky that I can't access the UEFI on my PC. It won't display video inn UEFI. It often won't display the PC loading screens to even enter the UEFI. I have to connect my PC directly to my TV in order to do anything in bios. My previous Denon receiver had none of these issues on the same PC and TV. It was not HDMI though, which is why I upgraded to this, in actuality, downgrade of a receiver. The first firmware did a great job of speeding up the HDMI switching. I'm hoping there will be a firmware update soon to address this handshake nonsense. Regardless, this is a one star or less product and the last onkyo receiver I ever buy. Like the title says, stay away. Far away. ... show more

  • Replacement A/V
Had a 13 year old Onkyo that lost its video board. Wanted another that would have same/better functions but be the same size to fit in the same place of my old unit. This was it - exact same dimensions and after 13 years has same or better functions, which you should expect. Changed out old and set up the new in about 2 hours. Balanced my existing 5.1 surround system - don’t have 7.1 which is supported. Only negative is that when air playing I only get audio and no video, therefore I still use my Apple TV for air playing. ... show more
