The car ornament was cut without having a honeycomb bed. The deer was cut with the honeycomb bed. Makes a huge difference in not only looks but speed as well. Would definitely recommend. (Just wish that it would have come with a few magnets and or pins to hold your material in place.)

I have an Ortur LM2 diode laser, it's not one of the newer models and didn't come with any kind of bed. I have been using a piece of MDF. I wanted a honeycomb bed because I use a "real" CO2 laser at a makerspace and understand it's advantages. Such as, airflow. If you do much cutting with a laser you need air assist to blow away the smoke and debris and help keep the lens clean. It also help evacuate the fumes if you have fan setup. The thin metal honeycomb material also does not absorb (like my MDF) or reflect the laser beam (like a plain metal base) which is also good. If your laser bed uses Ferris metals (not plain aluminum) you can use magnets to align and hold your work down of which I am a fan. The Two Trees models indeed work with magnets. The Two Trees beds come in 2 pieces, the honeycomb platform in a frame and a flat piece of metal that goes underneath. There are some supplied pads that are meant to go around the perimeter of the bottom part to provide an "air gap" between the honeycomb frame and the base for that airflow thing. Things you should consider; Size - make sure your bed fits between the legs/feet of your laser, I got the 400x400 which is smaller than my maximum working area because it wanted some positioning flexibility and to make it easy to move when I want to use the rotary attachment. The frame (non cutting area) takes up about 22.5mm on each side. Hight - The 2 pieces plus the pads take up about 27mm. You either need to adjust the Z axis height or raise up your feet by that much Flatness - You really want to keep the honeycomb bed true/flat, don't set heavy things in the middle that will make it bow. If you are engraving something heavy on the bet put it in the corners. If you do damage the honeycomb you can flip this bed over and are as good as new. Not all beds are symmetrical like this. Finally let's talk value. This is not a cheap accessory, it feels fairly substantial and seems like good quality. There are more and less expensive options out there but I like the balance struck on this product. If you do a lot of cutting you will be happy with this purchase. Two Trees has really been coming on strong over the last year or so. I trust the brand and am considering buying one of their laser heads to upgrade my Ortur. Recommended ... show more

I recently did a test cut with my Ortur laser and found that having the grid did help reflect some of the lasers light and helped create an even looking burn. Overall I am happy with the product but one thing that did bother me is the ruler is in the opposite direction of my laser 0,0 so it's kind of pointless and not very useful to line things up ... show more

Assuming that you plan on cutting through materials with your laser, you really should have a honeycomb bed and air assist. The 10W laser on my AtomStack X7 Pro is basically the bottom tier of machine where a honeycomb bed should be considered mandatory, where fiber and CO2 lasers absolutely need them. The Two Trees 430 * 400mm Honeycomb Laser Bed seems to be well made, where my criteria primarily have to do with the flatness of the bed. At $66, there are cheaper options, but most of those take forever in shipping. Conditionally Recommended ... show more

This laser bed not only comes with the basic bed and aluminum plate, but also with several items that can be engraved. First the bed, the honeycomb bed is true to size with mm markings along two edges and corner protectors/feet. It also comes with self-adhesive padded squares to apply to the corners to protect your working surface. The aluminum plate comes with a blue protective sheet that should be removed prior to use. Be careful working with this plate as the thin aluminum can easily cut your hand. We put the plate on the bottom of the bed and covered the corners with the protectors. Even with this, the plate sticks out a little on the edge an can cut your finger if you’re not careful. The engraving materials included are 2 pieces of heavyweight brown cardstock, 2 dog tags, and 2 pieces of metal in each of 5 different colors. Care should be taken with the thin metal as well. Make sure you measure the working area of your laser cutter, so you order the correct size. I ordered the wrong size and this one is actually a little small, so I have to make sure to only use it for smaller projects. ... show more

    • Great for older laser cutters without beds

I have an older laser cutter that does not have a bed, and the application that is used to control the laser is not always exact when changing to new materials, it is more trial and error than plug and play. I have been using a wood cutting board to protect the surface of the worktable in case the laser cuts through instead of engraving, or if cutting out a shape the laser cuts with too much power. Using the cutting board has added to the amount of smoke in the air when using the laser cutter. Now that I have this bed, I am able to get rid of some of the air pollution that happens when using the laser cutter. This item was a little high on price and you might be able to find less expensive alternatives, but the quality of this item is high, and it does exactly what it is meant to do and makes it a lot easier for me to use my laser cutter on a more frequent basis. ... show more
