  • Amazing and I am NOT a car detailer! Tips offer below
My wife drives an older black 4Runner. It is in great shape (it is a Toyota) but needed a good cleanup. So I decided to go for it and bought this kit. From what I can tell, it seems that I used about half of the product to do one treatment. It is a four step project and took me a total of 4 hours to complete them. First, I ran through a high end car wash. Then I walked through the four steps. All of the steps are super easy so I will finish this brief review by telling you what I experienced and what I will do differently next time. The cleaner wax step did a really nice job. The detail spray helps you take the excess off. The Final wax was a lot harder to remove. Tips: I would run the vehicle through a car wash, which I did. I would CLAY BAR the vehicle second. There are so many invisible "dots" on a black car that the only way to know if the black vehicle is clean enough before to waxing is with your bare hand. I didn't do this step and therefore I effectively sealed in invisible tree sap, road specks etc on to the vehicle. I would have a VERY bright area to work in. It is extremely difficult to detail a black car in any other scenario. I had a total of four overhead lights and two portable fluorescent work lights going for the project. Finally, the products have an odor, not unpleasant, but it is a little strong. Have some ventilation going. Also prepare to throw away or hand wash shop rags, polishing cloths etc. I would NOT recommend trying to run them through your clothing washer and dryer as the dyes are very powerful. My wife was very pleased. Me too! It's a good DIY project and it looked way better than when I hired a detailer. Also the shine seems to last, which I think would have been even more true had I used the clay bar (not included.) I think you will love it. ... show more

  • Great Start for Black Cars
I bought a piano-black SUV last year, and it had been sitting on the dealership lot for a few months before I discovered it and took it home. Down here in the south, month of rain, pollen, dust, dirt, and sun had turned the paint job into a hazy charcoal. The paint/clearcoat itself wasn't damaged. But it just looked pretty dull. I found a few small dings that left white spots, and a few hairline scratches that were ugly. The trimmings were charcoal instead of black (fixed with Back to Black polish). I needed something to turn my new SUV into a wet, glossy, black machine. PROS: - it really works, but it's not a miracle product - great on black cars with paint jobs that just need a bit of pampering - it's a complete kit to get you started (you'll need additional micro cloths, etc) - it lasts a few months, but you'll need to use clear wax to maintain it - covers white flaws in your car by filling it with black polish + wax - the box will get you through a whole year of waxing (do a thorough job every season, plus I use P21S monthly) - it's cheap - gives the car a deep black look (gets rid of gray haze) - kinda gives a "wet" look, but you really need to throw a glossy clear wax on top (I use P21S, so see my review there) CONS: - don't expect this to turn your rusty, chipped, hazy black car into a mirror finish (it doesn't fix bad paint) - it doesn't "add" black color to your car, it prevents white wax from emphasizing existing flaws - it takes 4 awful hours of muscle, so get your headphones ready or bribe a competent friend - it will stain EVERYTHING (including you skin, so wear gloves) - you will go through a dozen microfiber cloths to do an SUV (so get a dirt cheap 12 pack at Walmart) OVERALL: I really enjoy this product and will use it again. Every 3-4 months I will take a Sunday morning to pamper my car and wax it. With this kit, the instructions are as follows: wash car, dry cool in shade, apply black polish with sponge, buff off with micro cloth and spray cleaner, apply black wax, buff off with micro cloth. After playing around, I changed it up. The spray cleaner removes the black polish (which fills the dings and scratches), but the stupid spray cleaner (which they provide 2 bottles of), is pretty useless. If anything, it makes you use more micro cloths, and on top of that removes too much of the polish. The spray cleaner makes polish removal easier, but I say use those muscles (I'm a petite girl...if I can do it, so can you), and buff that polish off without using the cleaner. It puts a nice, thick layer on the car (which helps with the "wet" look). THEN apply the black wax on top, and buff that like crazy too. So now you have two really thick layers that will last you a few months. On top of that, I wipe two coats of P21S wax, which goes on like butter and really makes my black SUV shine. That last clear coat step adds true gloss and depth to your foundation black wax. Layers are what makes it great! ... show more

  • car wax for black cars
I LOVE this product! It does EVERYTHING it promises to do! I own a 2002 back car here in NY and our winters are brutal with all the salt, and contruction in the summer, LOTS of "dings" and scrapes in the parking lots. Tutle wax black box made my car look like it just came out of the showroom!! i have had many compliments on my cars' wax job which looks like mirror glass.....I LOVE IT!! Black box is a 4 step EASY treatment system. Wash and dry your car first. Directions are very easy to follow. ONLY issue I had, and it is NOT major, is that there in only a couple wipes, towels to use to remove the detail spray you have to use after you apply the pre-wax wash, then again after you apply the black box wax and use the detail spray to wipe it off, then you buff the wax. FILLS IN SCRATCHES AND THOSE "dings" I couldn't believe it!!!! It looks like new!!! Just don't get ahead of yourself applying the steps...you will WANT to when you see how AWESOME your car looks BUT FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. I also used old, soft socks to remove the detailing spray both after the prewax wash and after applying the wax. WEAR GLOVES...........Your hands will be covered in black and only use socks, t-shirts or any other soft cloths that you plan to throw out.....they WILL be completly black BUT SO IS YOUR CAR!!!! WELL WORTH throwing out some old, holey socks to have a beautiful, shiney, no marked up, mirror glass waxed car..... I LOVE what black box did to my car and I will buy it over and over again as long as I own a black car!!! Jan in upstate NY ... show more

2011 BMW 328. I jet black paint was faded and turning a little bit white from sun oxidation. I use this product and it is by far the best blackening agent that I have ever used or seen to repair the damage from the sun !! Great product.
