What exactly constitutes "aircraft materials?" The TLDR is a kind of aluminum that retains its' lightweight characteristics that's been hardened thru advances in metallurgy to be more resistant to corrosion & less brittle than than original alloy. (Yes, aluminum doesn't rust, but it still oxidizes.) Add CNC machining to the equation & you have something truly special. Do it at a sub 70 $ pricepoint & you have a reel that's borderline unheard of. Abrasives like salt, sand & micro particles will always be a concern, but they're greatly diminished. The only material I like better for a reels' gears is marine brass, & the difference is marginal at best. It's also the smoothest, best balanced reel I own. Even before mounting it on a rod I can crank it as hard as I want with no hitching, wobble or weight bias in any direction. Once mounted using it is pure joy. There are 2 caveats however, but they're reflective of my personal preference as opposed to any defect in the reel itself. The 1st is that the bail must be closed manually. Doing this is recommended by any fisherman worth his salt & if you get impulsive or forget, this reel will be happy to remind you. The 2nd is the grip. I've always preferred a torpedo style which this reel doesn't have. Tbh, after the first few casts I didn't care any more. I was having too much fun. A good drag system is paramount on any spinning reel & in the 2 trips I took it on I never managed to land anything over 3 1/2 lbs. So I tied on a snap swivel, wrapped it around a midlling sapling, walked a casting distance away & ran it thru a progressive series of pulls as I tightened the drag ever tighter. Whether I applied steady pressure or the sudden line ripping jerks of a panicked fish the drag engaged when it should & remained smooth & predictable regardless of my settings. Outstanding. All this for $64.99. I'm 72 years old & have been fishing for most of them. I've never encountered a better value than this. My advice? Buy this booger whether you need it or not.

These reels are fantastic! I’ve been fishing for over 50 years and rarely do I see this level of quality at this price point. I had the 4000 in my cart for nearly 2 years before I finally purchased. I’m very glad that I did. These Black Hawk 2 reels are solidly built but are still lightweight. Every function is smooth as silk. Line retrieval is almost effortless. When not mounted, I can give the handle a quick turn and it will continue to rotate another 14-15 times! The drag systems are wide range, powerful and seamless when engaging. There is no sticking or grabbing. After receiving the 4000 and seeing its potential, I immediately ordered the 3000 version, followed by another 3000 a month or so later. Whenever I find a product that just plain works to perfection for my needs, I get more than one. And I like their simple, basic, no nonsense looks in basic black and silver. On-fish performance was excellent! I recently used them for coho (silver) salmon fishing in AK. Coho are strong, aggressive, drag- squealing salmon famous for their fighting abilities. Even the 12-14 lb fish I caught were no match for the 3000 and 4000 versions I used. The drag systems stopped those fish effortlessly and brought em to the shore. To say that I was pleased would be an understatement! Spooled with 20 and 30 lb braid they cast spinners and spoons great distances and landed nearly 30 coho without issue. These reels are the real deal. I experienced no problems with them and am sure they will last for many salmon seasons. I now own four and just ordered a fifth! Now I have to figure out what to do with a half dozen Okuma, Penn, and Mitchell reels that just got bumped to the back burner! And they also come with a high quality box, not the cheap flimsy ones others have, and a soft bag with draw string for storage and transportation. Nice touches, IMO.

Have used this reel for 2 years now fishing for large Northern Pike and Walleye. Works great with braided line. Never have a problem handling fish from 2 lbs. to over 15 lbs. So far. Why did you pick this product vs others?: Great price and reviews.
