I used this Truscend rod for the second half of my 2023 fishing season in Wisconsin. I fished with it daily while waiting on a replacement part for my regular rig. I paired it with a 6'6" one-piece ultralight Ugly Stick that I picked up for under $50 at Walmart. At a total cost of under $100, my Truscend-UglyStik setup compares favorably to my much more expensive Sedona-St. Croix ultralight combo. It's no surprise that the Truscend bearings aren't as smooth and the UglyStik action isn't as sensitive on this cheaper set. When fishing with minnows and jigs, I found that pausing my retrieval with the Truscend occasionally introduced a moment of resistance to getting the reel spinning again. In the course fo 1,000s of casts in a full fishing season, this would get annoying. Nevertheless, this is a great reel for beginners or as an inexpensive backup for experienced anglers. I can hand this backup rig to my kids or a friend and know that they'll have lots of fun and catch fish.

I own more rods and reels than any person would ever need. I love fishing but collecting and working on them has became a hobby in itself. Having bought, worked on and used so many I can tell in short order the difference between junk and a quality reel/reel. This reel checks all the boxes of being a high quality long lasting product. First and really least important it’s the look. It looks amazing right out of the box. Every detail was thought out and executed well. Next the bearing and quality and smooth as butter. I always give a reel on spin then see how long it continues to spin on its own. To check bearing/gear ratio. This reel continues to spin for longer than most even doing it in reverse has similar results which a lot of reels especially cheaper ones fail short. They even include washers to adjust the spool if the line isn’t going on evenly when reeling. I keep a stock of them but most people don’t and it’s nice they added them. It also comes in a nice bag. Casting was also great. Of course with a rod this size you need a decent amount of weight to cast long distances which it does well. My favorite part is the numbers (Roman numerals) on the drag. It makes it easy to get it set where you want it and then if you need to adjust it while pulling a large fish in for example you can quickly change it back to your previous position. I rarely give 5 stars on an item but this one deserves it. I usually get reels similar to this one and upgrade them with my own preferred bearings and gear but this one is staying exactly how it is besides I swapped the knob on the handle to my preferred one but this is just personal preference and the one that’s on it was fine I’m just used to the other style and I put them on every reel I own. This reel is definitely on par with much more expensive reels I own that I’m basically just paying for the brand. I’m set it up to use as a catfish rig because of a local dam loaded with them in one spot that’s about half way out in the river I can cast this reel from the bank easily to the spot and it works well with my high test braided line. I caught a 28lb channel cat (largest so far on this reel) and it handled it great. There are so many other ways to set this up paired with a rod to fish for most anything but it definitely shines with my heavy action rod for the cats. If anything stops working or breaks I will update this review as I always do but I’m confident if taken care of it will last a very long time. Thanks for reading and have a great day. The TRUSCEND 1000 Spinning Reel is a lightweight fishing reel that is very versatile. You can use it for trout, bass, catfish, crappie, or bluegill. The 1000 size is very light and offers 9+1 ball bearings. Using a Carolina rig, I paired the reel with a Seaguar Tatsu 6lb fluorocarbon line. The fishing reel performed exceptionally well, where the casting distance was in line with my other fishing reels. The retrieve and the drag are also very smooth and much better than other fishing reels at this price point. I didn't experience any performance issues and would buy this fishing reel again. This reel was paired with a Phenix Iron Feather trout rod.

The media could not be loaded. I have a few products now from Truscend and I have grown to appreciate this brand. I had never heard of it before they started offering items on the Vine, but I am glad they did. I have moved from the Midwest to the FL gulf coast and my tackle now needs an overhaul as fishing is a bit different down here. At any rate, this reel is definitely a solid addition to my gear and I have no doubt this will serve me well. For the price, I wasn't expecting this to be comparable to higher end reels....if I didn't know the price, I would have guessed this to be in the $100-$150 range. This is smooth, quiet and reeling is effortless. Drag seems to work well too....but since this is relatively new, I will reserve judgment on that. (If the performance of the drag is not up to par with the rest of the reel, I will definitely come back and update my review....if there is no update, you can assume that it is working as I'd hoped.) From a weight/feel perspective it is also impressive. The mix of metal components to plastic components is favorable (like most people, not a fan of plastic). Given the predominance of solid parts, this is still reasonably lightweight. One note...the handle was a little odd to connect to the reel, after it's screwed in, you need to also tighten the black plastic component. Hadn't seen that before. It was a little annoying at first but once I figured it out, I think the design will keep it in place well, so not something that would detract from my rating of the item. Overall, I really like this reel....and given that is very competitively priced, I can definitely recommend it.
