My cats took to it right away. They love to scratch the sisal post. I took the pillow out of the top part and they seem to like that better, but still don't sit up there as much compared to the other square post I have next to it. I'm guessing they just have to get used to it as over time I've noticed them going up and sitting in the top part more than they did at first. It's a good height and very sturdy. My Ragdoll loves to really get into the scratching on the sisal and the post holds up really well, no wobble or tipping. A great scratching post at a wonderful price, and I love that it looks way better than the usual carpeted one. This has a more luxurious, soft, dark brown fur like material for the base and the top bed part. The top part comes off very easy for cleaning too. I may even put the pillow back in to see if the cats might like sleeping up there more, but right now I think they feel more secure up there without the pillow. ... show more

My cats instantly took to this new scratching post. Both cats are on the tubbier side and they broke their last post, so I was looking for a sturdier model. It was very easy to put together, maybe 5 minutes. The gray looks great. I like that the base is wide and rugged, the post is thick and made of weave, and the bed on top is a plus because one of my cats liked to sit on the top of his last post. ... show more

This is the best scratching post I've ever purchased. My Burmese were climbing on the post before I even got it out of the box. Pros: 1. the base is sturdy and fully supports the post and platform on top; 2. The post itself is considerably wider and heavier (thus more stable) than everything else I've owned or looked at. It's wrapped in rugged quality sisal that would likely hold up if I had Bobcats, let alone these little guys. It's height allows the cats to stretch a bit to scratch. 3. The removable "chaise lounge" on top is attractive, sought after and apparently quite comfortable if you're a cat. 4. The whole thing actually looks nice in the room with its warm color and rich-looking fabric on base and platform. See the birthday boys enjoying their present! Cons: so why not 5*? B/c the packaging is dreadful. I had to return 1st one because the ridiculously flimsy box broke, and screws were missing. The hard parts were not not wrapped, providing no cushion against the thin cardboard. This is why box broke - hello? It was a lot of trouble to repair the stupid box and schlep this HEAVY item to UPS store. The replacement also arrived in damaged box, but screws were enclosed, and product was intact so I could use it. Amazon was responsive to my concerns, but Trixie Pet Products needs to do a much better job of shipping this excellent product. Caveat emptor. ... show more

Great product, my cat (and I) love it so much that I bought 2!! It is the best scratching post/bed combo I've purchased and is much better than the others I've tried. I would definitely recommend getting one for your fur baby. The unique pros of this product: very solid and heavy enough so that it doesn't tip when my cat scratches the post or jumps up in the bed; the design and color makes it discrete and attractive so your living area doesn't scream cat house (we have wooden floors and it looks great); tall enough so that your cat can actually reach up as is natural for cats and as they would do in the wild. I was a little worried about the top bed part because (other than the platform part) it isn't actually attached, but I have been pleasantly surprised that it has stayed in place (my cat is on the smaller side, about 12lbs, so I'm not sure if this would be true for a large cat). The part my cat scratches has also held up quite well. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't come with any instructions (same both times so I'm sure it wasn't just a mistake). I was able to figure it out but it was inconvenient. However, I'm still giving 5 stars because the product itself is so great. (I am a real person and not paid to write this review) ... show more

Alright. It’s been half a year since I bought this, and already- the base and the top shed faux fur like crazy and it’s ripped to shreds. Tossed out the top & bottom and just kept the post. Bought a MAU cat tree basket in replacement of the top. And a wooden cat tree base from Amazon for the bottom. The base (sisal post) is in perfect condition. If you have old and gentle cats, it’s great. My cats both threw up chunks of carpet pieces and I realized I’ll never buy a carpeted pet scratcher/tree again. I’d save your money on this, unless, again- your cat doesn’t do much but sleep. Wish they sold just the post of this, bc it is amazing quality sisal and it’s thick, sturdy, and pretty. This was a hit with my cats. They all use the big, sturdy, extra tall scratching post, which allows them to luxuriously stretch full length, and doesn't wobble or shift even on tile floor, but they didn't seem to want to stay in the bed for long when it was set up as intended. I finally figured out what the problem was. The nice, plush, removable pillow in the bed made it so they didn't get the cozy, security benefit of being surrounded by the soft sides, because they were sitting up so high when it was in place. When I took the pillow out, all of them immediately began competing for use of the empty bed, which actually has a thin, but still soft layer of padding on the bottom. The pillow is now doing separate duty as a soft place for them to lounge on another piece of furniture. I've had the Trixie Pepino post for a year, and the pedestal/post and bed shell still look new - I just vacuum them every couple of weeks, and spot clean when needed. The pillow, which now used separately gets regularly wallowed around on by all the cats, has been through a number of cycles in the washer/dryer and is showing more signs of wear, but still in great shape. I just bought another one of these bed/scratcher combos, which I refer to as the Kitty Throne. My cats range in size from petite (6 lb) to fairly large (12 lb). ... show more

    • Very Poorly Constructed

When the product first arrived, there was a large chunk of wood missing from the base. This should have clued me in that the construction was very poor. I sent it back and received a replacement. My cat loved this scratching post and slept in the bed every day. The scratching post is made from manufactured particle board. d. There are round end caps at each end, also made of particle board. The end caps are stapled into the cylindrical scratching post. There is also a nut which is pounded into each end cap. The felt top and bottom pieces are bolted to the end caps. It appeared to be solid and sturdy. After a few months, the right side of the bed started to “flop” over, the elastic slackened, and the bed would move every time my cat jumped into it. My cat went from 6 pounds to 12 pounds during this time, and he did a lot of jumping in and out of the bed. I had the scratching post for about ten months. Last week, my cat jumped up into the bed for the last time. The entire scratching post came out of the base and fell over. That is how we discovered that the post and end caps were particle board and were stapled together. My precious cat could have been crushed by the top round piece, but fortunately he jumped out of the way. This scratching post cost $75. I expected much better construction. ... show more

This Cat Scratching Post is Big, Tall and Nice!!! Heck it's almost 2 feet in diameter at its base and well made. I just wish that the instructions included were more than just a little one-page drawing of the parts. It could've been more straightforward if there were more details included on how to assemble it. I had to decide which way to stand the 2 post halves together, since how one end of each post is carpeted and one end is not carpeted. And I had to decide which way to aim the double thread ended bolts which were off centered. It took about 15 minutes to assemble this thing. It really is a very nice post though. Our cats are loving scratching the heck out of it but they haven't attempted to jump up onto it yet. I'm happy that I purchased this thing. ... show more
