Description

The Trend Lapping Fluid is better than plain water for lubricating the surface of the stone, and other lubricants such as WD 40 are too thick, which results in your tool skating over the diamond surface. Using water or water-based products on your sharpening stone may result in rusting, since nickel (the bonding medium for the electroplating process) is porous. Like honing oil does for other sharpening surfaces, this lubricant improves the performance of any diamond abrasive or lapping plate, making sharpening even easier and faster than ever before. The petroleum-based lightweight fluid has been utilized in the diamond abrasive industry for over 35 years to reduce rusting and clogging.. From the Manufacturer A Petroleum based lightweight fluid which reduces the threat of rusting and clogging by 95-percent . Trend lapping fluid has been utilized in the diamond abrasive industry for over 35 years. Trend lapping fluid must be used on Trend diamond stones in order to validate five year warranty. • Leaky bottle
Size: 8.4 Fluid Ounce
I hope and assume there's some reasonable explanation for why so many of these bottles leak during shipping (mine included). I suspect if they used heat induction liners (or similar method) to seal prior to capping they could solve the issue. I'm pretty easygoing and don't mind some bumps along the way with anything--I plan to keep mine and use it despite losing an ounce or so--but if you're selling a premium product like this then I don't understand why such a simple issue continues recurring without resolution. ... show more

  • Anyone’s Guess
Size: 8.4 Fluid Ounce
I’m new to diamond stones as well as their lubricants, so I went looking for info. Water good or bad (rust). Water with soap added or a soap thinned with water. Oil or no oil? There are multiple concerns about water, the ability to completely dry your diamond stone and rust. Various oils come with concerns about their molecular thickness because of the size of the diamonds, how much if them is embedded by nickel. Your lubricant can be thick enough to fill the pours of your stone causing whatever your sharpening to float over the diamonds reducing the cutting action. Krud Kutter was highly recommended by one source for being inexpensive, the ideal lubricant, great diamond stone cleaner and rust remover. As I attempt to read between the lines I began to suspect the danger of rust from water might be a bit of a scare tactic. Krud Kutter seemed tempting and this Trend lubricant is the only product specifically manufactured for diamond stone use. Going on the assumption that a little goes a long way this Trend product seems to be the safest choice. As for the cost, I’m not aware of anyone giving away quality diamond stones for free so I’ll protect my investment with this Trend product. As I gain experience I will re-evaluate the need to update my 4 stars. One star deducted because cap was unscrewing itself and leaked as many others have stated (what the hell?). I’m lucky as it appears that not much leaked so I will keep. ... show more

  • Works, but at a Price
Size: 3.4 Fluid Ounce
I will first off admit that I am not a fussy, everything in its place, everything razor shop kind of woodworker. That does not mean that I do not take care of, and maintain my tools. I'm just not a zealot or perfectionist about maintenance at any price. Life it too short. I bring this up, simply because I feel that I can get reasonably good, if not just as good results, with common products such as a spray bottle of washer fluid. It is NOT a big deal for me to clean up the stone (i.e., dry it off) after use. I keep paper shop towels around for just this kind of thing. You may find that this stuff tends to gum up a bit, as well. Its one thing for using this to lubricate the diamond stone - but it is quite another to use this to clean/wash away a lot of material. That can get expensive. I am better suited for using the washer fluid, and quickly spritzing away the residue left from the honing. Another item, is for me to clean and dry the stone when I am done, and then put about one drop of this stuff on the stone as a kind of preservative for the stone to prevent rust during storage (no more, because it will trap and gather dust, even in a drawer). Any way, I personally think that $12 is not a good value for 3 ounces of this lapping fluid. I'll still use it, as I mentioned above, but probably not exclusively for lapping. ... show more
