I had been wanting a carry on luggage for sometime as I recently started getting into flying for vacation and I wanted an option for when I’m not checking a bag. A frequent-flyer-friend of mine suggested I get a soft sided Travelpro for carryon since it has more give and a case with two wheels since 360 spinner wheels tend to add to the height and may make it harder to fit into an overhead bin. I used this for the past week for a 6 day/5 night trip to Disney and it worked out very well for me. I flew with American Airlines and I had no issue fitting it into the overhead bin, both before and after some Souvenir shopping. I fit all of my clothes (and clothing accessories like ponchos and bags) into this luggage and placed most of my toiletries into my backpack. I only used the extender on my way home to fit some extra souvenir clothing I bought. The extender makes one side of the big deeper, so it looks like it has a belly. I like the handle on the side which is useful for lifting up into the overhead bin. The two wheels are very smooth, make it easy to roll and the stands are great for keeping your bag sturdy and stable. The only issue I had with this bag is that it is a little wide for airplane aisles to roll. It just about fits going down the aisle, but that means I have to roll it behind me or push it in front of me while trying not to bump into seats or people. It was easier for me to just carry it in my hand through the aisle. Fortunately the case itself is not too heavy, so carrying it by hand through the plane was a very minor sacrifice. My wife and I have flown internationally for years and used our share of luggage. For our anniversary, my wife asked for a new carry-on. I decided it was time to up my game from lesser-quality carry-ons. This carry-on delivers in spades. It has the unique distinction of having only two wheels--this is what my wife wanted. Four wheels means that the roller bag can, well, roll away unintentionally (if it's on a slope, for example). With two wheels and then two solid legs, this is prevented. If you are looking for a 4-wheeled unit, check out other Travelpro units. The size is about as big as you can get without every having to worry that airlines will prohibit it on-board (unless it's a tiny plane), or fit in overhead bins (again, unless you're on a smaller commuter aircraft). It rolls like a dream; it's super-smooth. The zippers are premium, as well. I'm now planning on buying one for me. It's just made well and navigates so smoothly. And yes, the first time my wife flew with it, an airline gate agent inquired, "Are you flying [on a premium class of ticket/seating]?" This has never happened before (and we've flown a LOT). Coincidence? Perhaps. And it doesn't really matter--we're not out to impress anyone. But the airline agent, I believe, figured that we *must* be frequent fliers if we had such a bag. If you like my review, please give it a thumbs-up. I only write reviews to help fellow Amazon shoppers. I am not compensated for any products, (I buy them with my own money, like many of you) and I write what I experience in order to make Amazon Reviews better for us all. This Travelpro Maxlite 5 22" is possibly the best carry-on out there for price/value. Yes this bag is slightly larger in overall dimensions (from top of bag to bottom of wheels, it's about 23" tall) that US Domestic restrictions for some airlines (United, for one) BUT this bag easily fits into overhead bins. I flew with this bag on 777's, 737-700's and A321s, all without issues. Gate agents didn't even look at this bag and I didn't stand out with it either. Other travellers who were trying to stuff rather large duffels were told at the gate they'd have to check their bags. Bag construction is of high quality nylon mesh and other high quality plastics. The wheels are perfectly round and feel durable. I pulled my bag across airports, roads, crosswalks and the uneven sidewalks in NYC. No issues and the bag remains stable and upright when being pulled. I elected to buy the two-wheeled version versus the spinner in order to gain more interior room in the bag. I was able to pack 3 suits and dress shirts (in a suit protector I also bought on Amazon) along with some golf shirts, shorts, jeans, socks and other small items. All this without making the bag bulge or look overstuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey. The bag is easy to pull down a jet's aisle(s) and with its built in padded side handle, making your way to your seat is a breeze. Being super light unpacked, this bag really makes great use of space all without making the bag heavy when packed. The zippers all have nice pulls and are easily accessible. The main compartment zippers have connecting loops so you can put a lock on your bag if you are forced to gate check. There's a front zippered pocket which serves you well for your phone and travel docs before going through TSA. This makes emptying your pants pockets easy so you can go unmolested through TSA checkpoints. While an occasional reach around from TSA could be nice, I prefer to avoid such personal interactions. The front expandable section of the bag allows for easy storage of a thin laptop or iPad and some cables. All making for easy access while on board a plane so you can get situated before flight with your devices. I can see packing for a 5 day trip in this bag and maybe adding a backpack for some extras to get to 7-8 days total. Overall, this bag is a great value, well made and I can see getting many good years out of it. And with bag fees going from $25-$30, buying and owning a bag like this is a no brainer now. If you use it 2-3 times, it will have paid for itself. You need this bag in your travel arsenal. Buy it. You can come back and thank me later. ... show more

I just took my new Max-lite5 carry on as well as the 26" expandable luggage on a two week trip to England. The wheels are already chipping and falling apart. I wrote to customer service to see if replacement wheels are available, but they have a message that it will take 3-4 weeks for a response to my enquiry. I also took my TravelPro Platinum Elite luggage on this same trip. The wheels on that luggage are fabulous. No obvious signs of wear and roll like a dream. ... show more

    • Good bag, thought it was bigger

I own 2 20 inch trollies from the same series, I bought the 22 inch under the assumption that it was slightly bigger. I was disappointed to discover that it was the same volume as the 20 inch. Next time I will check more carefully. Overall the bag is great, but the 20 inch is a better option especially in a world of increasing trolly size restrictions. ... show more
