Description

TrailBuddy Trekking Poles offer the best combination of durable strength and lightweight portability in a complete set designed for the trekker's comfort and ease of use. Why use trekking poles? 1. Reduce impact of trekking or walking on knees, back, and hips 2. Increase speed, balance, and security 3. Get more traction and points of contact, crucial on muddy or steep terrains 4. Great walking aid if recovering from injury or have balance issues 5. Other uses: - Can deflect shrubbery or act as probe for puddles, quicksand, etc - Defense vs bears, other wildlife - Can double as tent poles Additional advantages of Aluminum 7075 While carbon fiber is lighter than aluminum, it does not perform very well under lateral pressure - common issues include snapping especially when it gets stuck on rocky terrain. Aluminum will not snap. It might bend under extreme pressure, but you can more likely bend it back and continue using it. Additional advantages of Lever Lock Aside from easy lengthening or shortening, poles with flip-locks can also be disassembled or reassembled easily. This is helpful if packing the trekking poles in a suitcase and shaving an inch or two off the assembled length is needed. With twist locks, it can be almost impossible to do this without breaking the poles. TrailBuddy stands behind the quality of our products. • Nice Hiking Poles
Color: Black Raven
I purchased these hiking poles for my first backing packing trip experience on the Appalachian trail in Maine. I have not had the chance to used them yet, but they seem to be high quality and are very light weight. The grips have a good feel. Each pole has two clamps for adjusting the length, and each adjustment has markings for the length you are adjusting to. Before you adjust the length, make sure you read the instructions for adjusting the clamps so that you don't overtighten. For my height of 5'11", the directions indicate the ideal length should be 48". I adjusted the poles to 48" and it did feel like that was the perfect length. I think these are nice hiking poles for the price. ... show more

  • High quality at a reasonable price
Color: Plum Purple
Poles are light and strong with good instructions attached. Adjustment is easy--the instructions give you a starting point for adjusting the poles based on your height. No tape measure is needed; the poles are clearly marked. The locking mechanisms are positive and easily adjusted without tools. I haven't put miles on them yet, but they should do the job. A lighweight storage bag is included, and with judicious packing, you can get the poles and the extra tips into the bag. Also, they do sell parts, so if you damage a pole, it should be possible to repair it without buying another set of poles. ... show more

  • Game changer!
Color: Aqua Sky
This is my first set of trekking poles (at 67 years old!) so I really don't have anything to compare them to. However, I watched a video on YouTube on setting them up and how to use them. I refuse to walk with a cane but needed some stability. After reading reviews, I decided to give them a try. These were just what I needed! They're surprisingly sturdy yet very lightweight and very affordable. They will take time for me to get used to using, but they're comfortable to hold and do improve my balance. I was able to walk farther and at a faster pace (I didn't have to slow down to concentrate as much on my balance. As a matter of fact, on my way back to the car, there was hole between where the grass and the asphalt met. Without these poles, I would probably have fallen. I walk with a better posture, so I don't have back pain during my walk, like I usually do. I sent my son a picture, and he said I looked "very sporty" and can't wait to try them when he comes to visit from NM in the summer. I will be recommending these to my family and friends. Thank you so much! ... show more

  • great poles but can be challenging to adjust at first
Color: Black Raven
After torturous hours of reviewing polls from different websites for features and pricing, I bought these walking poles (black) for trekking the rugged terrain at my ranch. There's a lot of difficulty here.. uneven uphill and downhill, boulders, small rocks, slippery rock chips, dirt and sometimes muddy spots... It's just overall a very unpredictable and exhausting terrain to navigate. I am a woman over 65 and actively managing my ranch. The last few fence checks done at the higher bluffs and elevations, I began having some troubles with "gravity". ;) Sooo, I bought these poles to assist with uplifts and balance (wise at my age but a bit defeating to the ego). The poles arrived within 2 days of ordering and were nicely boxed and packaged. As always, I read all the inserts, instructions, and labels before beginning. Here's what I found... Pros: First, the color brochure is nicely done with only 1 problem (see Cons). The brochure is a combination of customer services info (nice!), how to get replacement parts (nice!), descriptive details, and instructions for assembling and using the poles. The manufacturer includes lots of value-added accessories: snow feet "baskets", mud baskets, and a spare pair of rubber tips for hiking on hard, flat, or rocky areas. I love that they included a tip (no pun intended) for using rubber tips at places like Machu Pichu to protect the terrain. Very thoughtful. Also included is a storage bag with a slide-adjust toggle closure and an adjustable carrying strap. The bag is very light weight and feels like it's probably water resistant. All these extras are so nicely accommodating for the consumer. Cons (assembly): For the pole height I followed the recommended height and length (46" for a 5'8" person). That's when the frustrations began... Very difficult to unscrew the adjustment screws! I assume they are machine-tightened before packaging because I couldn't get them to budge. First I tried a grippy pad. No go. Then I tried a pair of channel locks with padded tips. Success. After 20+ minutes of making height adjustments, testing, repeating, I FINALLY got the poles assembled in matching heights. BUT, they were too tall! OHMYGOSH, I had to re-do the entire process again. I shortened the recommended height by about 1/2" then tested the poles outside on several sets of stairs, each with different configurations, risers, building materials, etc. The shortened height on the poles worked well up and down the stairs with the standard rubber feet. Cons (a print issue): The brochure is a good read except for the section titled "Uphill or Downhill". The gradient blue fill behind the white text fades off into oblivion on the part where the light side of the blue background color. The white text on light blue background makes this section difficult to read. With all the well-thought out accessories included, I hope the manufacturer might consider including a small pouch for carrying the spare gear, i.e. alternate baskets. Also, please consider including a shorty 7/16" wrench or other tool for making screw adjustments during trekking. It is possible, in some geographic trekking locations, one will encounter different types of ground conditions, e.g. snow in some spots and mud in others. It would oh-so helpful to have that little pouch on hand to carry the alternate baskets and the small tool for adjusting height for uphill/downhill. I bought a short 7/16" wrench to carry on my treks. I had an old small cosmetic bag (approx 4"x4") that I attached to one of the poles with a zip-tie. Now I've got all the gear with me, just in case. Bottom line: these are GREAT POLES with supportive customer services and an overall highly recommended product! ... show more

  • MY FAVOURITE TREKKING POLES!!
Color: Blue Lake
I purchased these in the USA, and then brought them with me over to New Zealand - where they have been extensively used since... up and down rugged mountains, traversing thick native bush, and through multiple rocky fast-moving river crossings... these poles stood up to it all!!! They were super easy and quick to adjust to my needs, they are lightweight yet strong. Coming down steep slippery muddy slopes in rainy conditions - they kept me upright and saved me from slipping uncountable times. Plus the handles didn't give me blisters or pain even after using them nonstop for three days in a row. The carry bag is a lovely bonus for storing either in my pack when not needed, or at home in between adventures. Honestly - I'm totally delighted with them, and highly recommend them to anyone looking for poles for stability and traction on hikes, tramps, simple walks and rugged adventures! (I got mine in BLUE and they are gorgeous!) ... show more
