Setup & Installation Installation was straightforward, but you do need a neutral wire in your switch box — so make sure your wiring supports that before buying. Once everything was connected, the Tapo app walked me through the rest in just a few minutes. It connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi quickly and paired seamlessly with my Alexa and Google Home. Performance The switch responds instantly to app commands, schedules, and voice controls. I love being able to set routines, timers, and “away” schedules so lights turn on/off automatically. No noticeable lag at all. The build feels good and solid — not cheap plastic — and the touch panel is smooth and responsive. Single-pole version can now be fully integrated with ESPHome thanks to community contributions from the Libretiny project. Full OTA support for RTL8720Cx chipset has been added this year. This is a simple, yet very well built and good looking light switch that can now be fully controlled by ESPHome firmware. The feature I was missing the most is making the switch button and the relay operate independently, so that I could control WiFi smart bulbs using just the button switch without actually powering the WiFi bulbs off, yet keep the option to power cycle them manually when needed. Easily accomplished using this switch and a simple YAML config. The 2 smaller recessed buttons at the bottom of the switch are also very useful. One just cuts power to RTL8720Cx and reboots it (very useful), the other is just an extra generic GPIO button that is fully configurable. All connections needed for reprogramming (UART2, boot mode straps, and 5V power) are on easily accessible test pads, and the unit itself is pretty easy to take apart. No soldering required if you have a 3D printer and some pogo pins. This makes it a perfect light switch for DIY in my book. I'll be replacing most of my Shelly controlled switches with these. Way cheaper, much cleaner wiring, UL certified, better looking, and just as good in terms of local control and updates. ... show more

This smart switch has been a solid addition to my smart home setup. It’s very cost-effective, integrates seamlessly with Alexa, and works with the popular Tapo app, which I already use for other smart devices. Setup was straightforward, and I use it to control the lights in my garage—super convenient when coming and going. Occasionally, it doesn’t seem to register when I give it a quick tap in passing, but that might be more about me not fully pressing it than a fault with the switch itself. Once you press it properly, it works reliably every time. The point of it, was to allow me to turn it on and off, with Alexa while in my garage/gym. There is no dimming, but my lights don't dim anyways. It can be set to a timer if you need it to be. For the price, features, and performance, this is a great smart switch.     • Reliable Smart Switch, But App Ecosystem Matters

I installed this TP-Link Tapo single-pole smart light switch in a standard neutral-wire setup and the hardware itself works reliably. Installation was straightforward if you’re comfortable working with basic electrical wiring, and once powered up, the switch connects to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi without much difficulty. The physical paddle has a solid feel, and response time through the app is quick for turning lights on and off or setting schedules. Where it gets slightly complicated is ecosystem compatibility. This Tapo line does not integrate into the same app environment as TP-Link’s Kasa switches. The reason this isn’t a 5-star rating is that it’s not fully interchangeable if you already have other TP-Link smart switches running under a different app. That means managing two separate apps depending on which product line you own, which isn’t ideal if you’re trying to standardize your smart home setup. If you’re starting fresh or planning to stay within the Tapo ecosystem, it performs well and offers solid value.     • Clean, Paddle Switches with Great Connectivity, Reliability, Durability and Performance!

Tapo (the successor of Kasa) is one of my favorite affordable smart home brands for the wide range of appliances they offer to help you automate your home. They have a sensor or switch for just about every purpose, making them a great option for home security and surveillance as well! These paddle switches are super easy to wire in and set up with their app. The build quality has held up for me the past 3 years! These particular switches DO NOT DIM, but they DO have a Dimming option available in another product. They've always had excellent connectivity, so as long as you have a modern and powerful enough router for your home size & network device needs. I will mention, TP-Link is a Chinese company and has been known for poor security practices in some of their routers, as well as their smart devices pinging IP Addresses located in China for unknown reasons. Likely for analytics of your home network, along side their API, at best. That aside, I will continue to build my Tapo-Smart home, one device at a time! ... show more
