  • Using as an Access Point, works OK, LAN speeds are a bit slow for gigabit
I picked this up to replace a failing Asus router in my network. I'm using it in "Access Point" mode, connecting to the main router on my LAN. My network is all gigabit, and with my previous router/ap I was getting upwards of 110MB/s file transfers between PCs on both ends of the LAN. With this new router in place, I'm seeing anywhere form 35-55MB/s for file transfers between PCs on the two different routers, but between two PCs both connected to this router/AP, I'll get the full 110MB/s+ speeds as expected. The bottleneck seems to be between the two routers. There's about 150ft of Cat6 cable between the routers which should be perfectly adequate, and was with the old router. They are negotiating a gigabit connection at full duplex, so not sure what's slowing it down, but I can live with it for the price I guess. Wifi speed and coverage seems on par with any other router I've used, better than some other low cost ones. ... show more

  • I Was Skeptical
I'm a career IT guy and I rarely like anything but this refurbished router/gateway is a great deal. I received an A7 version 5.6. Packaging was minimal and environmentally friendly which I appreciate. The OEM interface is very simple even for a novice. But it easily accepts the dd-wrt upgrade and that's where the fun begins in terms of speed and features. Channel bonding is like night and day for streaming live sports. And this router does more 5Ghz channels than any retail grade product I've used. My 5Ghz bonded channels are in a space none of my neighbors are using. I love it. The dd-wrt is the way to go. Speed plus more features than even I would use. This item is a good choice. ... show more

  • Please read
I cannot give a rating on this, it was not compatible with what I was needing it for, so I returned it. I know shipping was fast, unit worked when plugged in, but was not what I needed.

  • Decent router, decent price
Wanted to upgrade my router since my old one was struggling to keep up with all the devices connected to it. This one does a fair job, although it has problems when nearby routers interfere with it. GUI is ok, easy to set up, I used the browser setup rather than the app. Seems to be fine for refurb, speeds are ok. ... show more

  • Standard high quality TP-Link Router.
I am in the process of setting up a new internet network in my house. The TP-Link reouter connects to the internet modem. The only problem is that when I add a new device to my network, I have to restart the TP-Link router. I suspect the problem is a setting in the router that I'll have to figure out. However, with no changes in the network, the route works fine and has wide coverage even though it is located in the basement. I have 3 of these TP-Link things, and the all work great. ... show more

  • Awesome With DD-WRT Firmware
This is one of the better relatively inexpensive modern WiFi routers to use with third party open source firmware like DD-WRT. It's relatively easy to replace the firmware (at least on the revision I purchased but check to see if TP-Link has made changes that might be a problem). In general TP-Link seems to be more third party firmware friendly than most router manufactures. Running DD-WRT it's fast, stable, barely gets lukewarm (uses very little power), the triple external antennas provide good WiFi range and supports all the cool features you get with DD-WRT like the ability to run a full time VPN at the the router. You also get a 4 port ethernet switch. Obviously you'll want to spend more if you have a good reason for WiFi 6 speeds. But, in many applications, the internet speed is going to be the bottleneck especially running through a VPN. ... show more
