  • Overall Great Performing Panel With Three Output Options with DC port, Updated Review
Update: I am revising this review because after testing many panels, this one outperforms other panels under the same light conditions. I have compared this panel, Solar Fairy 30, to the BigBlue 28 Watt Panel and also TopSolar's ETFE version of this panel, SolarFairy 30. In low light conditions this panel can outcharge the others by around 15%. Also the BigBlue does not have the capability of QC or PD fast charging so charging a device directly may not be feasible. This panel is much more sleek with the other panels taking much more space in your backpack, etc. Originally I had wanted this panel in a more ruggedized form. This was before I knew TopSolar does already have it. But after using the SolarFairy 30, I feel that this slim formfactor was better for me. Also I have confirmed that this panel can indeed charge at 18 watts. I was able to charge the Ravpower 20000mah power bank (RP-PB172) at 18 watts adding 2615mah in an hour and 45 minutes. None of the other panels would be able to do this. I do not have any device to confirm that it can do up to the max 12V at 2A (24W). My only remaining complaints are 1) to have four grommets for hanging the panel instead just two and 2) a slight electrical whine when in use sometimes. Other than that it's great. Original Review: TLDR: For people looking for both USB and DC ports this panel has them covered at a reasonable price. It appears to meet its' performance specifications. I hope future versions will improve on the durability and construction of the panel. I have been looking for a good smaller panel that is able to effectively charge my phone, Galaxy S20, with the possibility of using it to charge a 12 volt 30 AH Lithium Iron Phosphate battery box I build. At this wattage most of the panels on the market only have USB outputs. This panel supports up to 24 Watts on both the USB-A and USB-C ports. It is important to note that when both USB ports are in use fast charging using QC3.0 or PD will not be available due to the overall wattage of the panel. With the standard QC3.0 wall chargers the fastest my phone will charge is right at 15 Watts (9 volts at approximately 1.65 Amps). (Galaxy S20 must have a charger that supports USB Power Delivery 3.0 PPS for super fast charging at 25 Watts.) Solar Test Results; USB: I tested both the USB-A and USB-C ports with my phone. It was able to get charging at 15 watts with both ports. Adding another device did drop the charging speed but both devices were charging. The conditions were clear late in the afternoon. The panel did not require to be optimized in terms of position to achieve 15 watts charging for my phone. So I think that this is a success. Solar Test Results; 14.4 Volt DC Port: Again laying the panel flat in same conditions (clear day, late afternoon) I tested what output could be obtained charging a lead acid car battery. I was able to get around 1.1 volts. Next I placed the panel on a stand to get a better angle. The amperage increased to over 1.4 Amps with some intermittent moments at 1.6 Amps. The max quoted rating if 14.4 Volts at 1.8 Amps. So I think this was a great result. Form Factor: Overall the form factor is a big improvement over where panels were several years ago. For reference, I have provided a picture of the TopSolar 30 Watt panel on top of a 20 Watt PowerFilm panel (model F15-1200 rated at 15.4 Volts at 1.2 Amps. These were the best that were available on the market). The TopSolar panel is one third the surface area of the PowerFilm. This is great which makes it easier to deploy. I should mentioned that during the USB testing I also compared this panel. The PowerFilm was unable to support fast charging on the S20. Construction: The panel consists of 4 rigid cells supported on a smooth black fabric. When folded the panel is held closed by a magnet which works well. There is a rubber cover which protects the ports when not in use. The panel has two grommets/rings from which the panel could be hung. This is where the review becomes more critical. I think that the smooth fabric is not an ideal choice for its' advertised use case. I think that in the future the fabric chosen should have better abrasion resistance. I had hoped that this would be similar ETFE construction that they use on their 60, 100, and 120 watt larger panels. Lastly, I am unsure of what IP rating this panel would be given the construction I don't that it could handle even a light rain. Like a lot of panels in this category It is intended to be hung or laid on the ground. I wish this panel had some additional option like a kick stand or additional grommets. ... show more

  • it works good, in both applications usages
1year+ update - love it still, works 100% -minor paint scratches because i am tuff on equipment- this has been under-water over waterfalls - and down the creek using it as a paddle - still not bent or cracked - all fabrics in-tact .. - this charges things - but its best quality is 14.4 output (14.45vDC) it pushes over 2 amps if you aim it right - its variable, dose over its 30wat ratting, i made the move -to all my batteries are now Lifepo4 4s (12v batteries) its a great choice for compact solar-pannel im buying a 2ed one for a good friend - as a trickle charger -for her car .. wish it came with a stand built-in - sometimes sticks are hard to find.. a raccoon took off with the DIY stand i glued onto it one night.. the reviews I keep reading - say it has "a shutoff problem" that i have not seen or experienced with it my phone/12v batteries will keep charging if a momentary shadow crosses it, it does not have any buttons/switches so i don't understand their issues it works good - charges my stuff quickly even in the shade It's a tuff package - it gets thrown into my backpack / left in the dashboard / comes rock-climbing/river rafting with me.. it fits nicely - the size of a typical tablet - it's not flexible but feels solid when folded up i have not broken it yet. it does grate with going underwater then drying out (has a rubber gasket for power outlets) but i don't recommend keeping it connected to a source in the rain my typical usage ( it charges a battery pack, that inturn i connect my phone (i attached my USB battery bank to the back panel with velcro) this will dual charge batteries ( 5v/9v and 14v at the same time) it will not power a 12v device- it won't deliver power unless it senses a battery output <hack put a (rechargeable battery ) in parallel with the charger to run devices off solar> it is only looking for a simple voltage (i hacked a dead AA battery) the 12v output will charge my Microsoft surface Pro (ms-surfaces are one of the few tablet/laptop's that run at 12v <most laptops run at 20v and won't work>) ... show more

  • Powerful and compact
I bought this about six months ago, and have used it on trips and at home. It is amazing how powerful this little panel is! I've used it on overcast days in the Pacific Northwest, and sunny days in the desert, and on the Olympic Peninsula. It is compact, and takes more abuse than I would have given it credit for. Normally, I store it safely, but several times I've either dropped it between the seats, just to get it out of the way, or I have really dropped it right on the ground. it is completely undamaged. The foldup panel is accompanied by a heavy-duty zipper pouch that holds the various attachments and the user guide. The panel can be set on a surface with the optimal angle for solar gain, or simply hung through eyelets by bungees or a cord from any convenient vehicle, tree, post. My initial purchase was so that I could charge a power pack and my cell phones on the road. Having only one of each of the USB plug-ins on the unit makes it challenging, but daisy-chaining the phones to the two USB outlets on the power pack, then the power pack to the solar panel charged all three. Clearly, overcast days are a problem, but I have had even a minimal gain on most days, which, if nothing else, maintains my phones at whatever point the battery is registering when I plug it in. The last week has been the real test. We lost power for a day during a rain, wind, and thunder storm, I was able to keep my phone charged up in these conditions. The last two days, though, have been a real win! It is late September in northern Washington, and I let my car battery run dead. I used the panel and the included battery clips and extension cord to charge it up enough, yesterday afternoon and this morning, to start and drive away. I made sure that it was at optimal angle to the sun, and it was a bright day. Took a few hours. Cool! i heartily recommend this, and am looking at purchasing another. ... show more
