    • Works well enough, ignore the negative reviews!
Works well enough. I actually spent two days to complete the wiring process, since I might a slight mistake in the wiring process which I realized when I watched the installation video. But I eventually got it to work and it works well enough for my purposes. I can even turn ON/OFF the lights or dim them via the Alexa app and the Echo, which is a bonus. I read through the instructions for the auxiliary switch (note the instructions that come with the main switch are not really helpful for a 3-way setup), though the wiring diagram listed in the product page on Amazon was much more useful to me. I initially completed wiring over the process of an hour by examining the diagram, but encountered a few complications in the process as mentioned below. I had incorrectly identified one side as the "main" switch (i.e. one with a connection to LINE) since it was physically very close to a switch that I already knew to have a connection with the circuit breaker. Thankfully, I figured out the mistake just as I was testing with the voltmeter and getting the new switches ready. I would recommend to not assume anything, and be absolutely sure which side is the LINE and which is the LOAD, that way it'll save any unnecessary headache. I also had to make a slight adjustment in the wiring process as I had a 2-Gang on my LINE side - the other one was a single-pole switch that controlled a separate light fixture. This was mostly straightforward to figure out, as the LINE wire fed to this single-pole switch first, and was wired to my original 3-way switch via a simple connector cable; in my case, I just needed to connect this cable from the single-pole switch to the LINE terminal on my new smart switch. The one mistake I did initially was with the wiring of the neutral wires. I had a bundle of 3 neutral wires wire-nutted together on my LINE side, so what I did was wire-nut two of them together, and connected the one neutral wire (the one that was part of a separate bundle from the other 2 ones) to the smart switch. After turning on the power in the breaker, the switch was not able to function and turn the light ON/OFF; after watching the installation video, I realized my mistake pretty quickly. The issue was that I needed a "jumper" wire, but it seems they did not provide that with the product, and didn't explain it clearly that we would need such a wire either. The next morning I was able to connect the neutral wires as shown in the installation video, with a few slight adjustments as well: * Since I could not wire-nut the mass of 4 wires together (neutrals + jumper cable) as they were too thick, what I did was wire-nut 3 of the wires (2 neutrals + jumper cable) and connect the remaining neutral and the other end of the jumper cable to the NEUTRAL terminals on the smart switch. * In the installation video on the LOAD side, they tell us to wire-nut the 2 neutral wires and a jumper cable together, and connect the other end of the jumper cable to the smart switch. I was able to eliminate the need of a jumper cable by simply connecting the 2 white wires to the NEUTRAL terminals on the smart auxiliary switch. -- Overall, the product works fine for now, and I can dim the lights both manually or via the app. The setup with the Topgreener app was a little painful to be honest (got it on the 3rd try with the "slowly blinking" lights), but the setup with Alexa was definitely much easier. I will update this review if the device stops functioning or does not behave as expected; but for now, it's working perfectly fine - just installed it earlier this morning. PRO's: + Installation video - recommend watching it first so you don't make any incorrect assumptions or do anything wrong + Smart 3-way dimmer switch with a reasonable price - $35 is a pretty good deal compared to other choices + Control dimming and power ON/OFF from two or more locations CON's: - Gotta hit the buttons on the switch a little hard if you want to turn the light ON/OFF - Device scanning/registration via the TopGreener app is tricky and a little hard to get right on the 1st attempt - Installation requires a "jumper" wire, not mentioned in the instructions and not provided with the product either; must purchase separately or have one on hand (luckily I did) - In the Alexa app, the TopGreener brand is not listed when you want to add the switch using the "add device" feature; instead you would search for the TopGreener skill and link your account with Alexa in order to be able to voice control it ... show more
