  • Plug and play dual monitors, dual SD Card slots, and it declutters your desk!
Color: UDS013-No Power Adapter
I am really enjoying this dock. Almost everything about it -- the aesthetics, the functionality, and the features -- is great! AESTHETICS: I've attached two photos of the dock. First, it is made for the Macbook, and I appreciate Tobenone's attention to detail. The color of the dock matches my Space Gray Macbook Pro! There is a dual USB-C cable that connects the Macbook to the dock, and that's it for connections - just one cable, and the color of the cable matches the Macbook Pro, too. The front is a bit plain with a lot of empty black space above the USB ports. What I like most about it is it has eliminated a mess of cables and USB+HDMI adapters and decluttered my desk and gave it a minimalist look -- no more dongle city!! You wouldn't know by looking at the first photo that there is a power adapter, two monitors, a keyboard, bluetooth mouse, printer, a USB drive, and a micro SD card all connected to it! It is also compact. The second photo shows the dock next to a half-liter water bottle for size comparison. FUNCTIONALITY: The dock is fuss-free and truly plug-and-play. First, you connect the dock to your Macbook's power adapter using a USB-C cable. Next, you plug the included dual USB-C cable into the dock, then connect your monitors and peripherals. When you're ready, plug the other end of the dual USB-C cable into your Macbook. No drivers are needed, and setup is intuitive. Connecting both monitors was easy via the dual HDMI ports, and my Macbook Pro recognized them as soon as I booted it up. I've plugged and unplugged my Macbook Pro from the dock without ill effect. When I plug my Macbook into the dock, both monitors come to life almost instantly. The dock stays cool even when the I/O is maxed out. FEATURES: It has four USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, 1 USB-C port, 1 SD card slot, one micro SD card slot, headphone jack, and of course two HDMI ports. One of the first tasks I had was copying files between an SD card and a micro SD card. I was pleasantly surprised to find that both SD slot cards worked at the same time. Dongles that have both SD and micro SD card slots will only allow one slot to work at a time. There are only two things this dock could improve on. The first is I wish the SD card slots were in the front. There is a lot of space above the USB ports where the card slots could've been put. The second thing is the headphone jack does not work automatically when you plug in headphones. Rather, you must go into System Preferences, click on Sound, and select "USB PnP Audio Device." It would have been nice for the headphone jack to switch over automatically just like the MacBook. Overall, I'm very happy with this dock! ... show more

  • Good product and Support services
Color: UDS013-No Power Adapter
I bought this for my Mac Air, two monitors, wired mouse, wired keyboard and printer. The installation was very simple and the hub works well. My only concern was that when I put the Mac to sleep and then woke it up, my wired mouse and/or keyboard would often not work and I would have to mess around with USB ports and restart the computer. I contacted the support line by email and got very helpful and timely information from Anita of Support. I followed her instructions and the dock has been consistently waking up ready to go. I recommend this product and their support. ... show more

  • works perfectly
Color: UDS013-No Power Adapter
I don’t usually write reviews, but after a full year with the Tobenone Dock, I feel like it deserves some credit. I run my entire home office through this thing—monitor, external drives, keyboard, mouse, audio interface—and it has not skipped a beat once. Setup was plug-and-play. No drivers, no weird connection issues, just instant recognition. The ports are laid out smartly, and I’ve never felt like I’m missing one. HDMI output is crisp, charging is consistent, and it runs surprisingly cool compared to other docks I’ve tried in the past. What I appreciate most after a year is the reliability. I connect and disconnect my laptop multiple times a day, and it just works—no lag, no glitchy wake-ups from sleep, no random reboots. That’s rare for docks in this price range. If you’re on the fence, don’t be. This is the kind of accessory you forget about because it does its job so well—and that’s exactly what I want in my setup. After a year, I can honestly say it’s been one of my best purchases. ... show more

  • Great dock but does have failures... I'd still buy another
Color: UDS013-No Power Adapter
So to put things in context, I own four of these. I leave one at each place I work connected to the equipment there and the only thing I bring with me is my laptop (MacBook Pro 15-inch, 2019) and charger (the 87w that came with the MacBook). So I have four of these to compare to one another. I've had these between 1 month to 1 year. The one I had for 1 month suddenly died one day. The power LED no longer lit on the device and it basically acted as dead. Checked with customer support and went back and forth a couple days (via email) and in the end they sent me a replacement. I'm using that right now so I'd give Customer Support a thumbs up. (The fact that it died is why I took away a star). Note: I'm a computer scientist and electronic engineer so I know about "infant mortality" especially on things that are allowed to take on "random" power supplies (by not supplying one for you, they are sort of taking on the burden of how good your supply is). Infant mortality happens. For me it was 1 in 4 devices. I know how someone purchasing one and it failing would feel. Still testing the power draw on the unit, but I typically see around 10w draw off of the supply going into it. I'm running 2x4k displays, webcam, couple small usb devices, etc so that kind of draw is expected. The flip is that I only get 52w to the laptop (I'm using the Apple 60w brick, not the larger brick). In playing video games, the laptop definitely draws more power than delivered so it eventually starts to slow down the processor to conserve power (definitely not a joy, but considering what I'm powering, makes sense). I did see someone else post a 150w power supply that might put more thru the system (note that PPS only allows for 100w on the thunderbolt 3 cables so having 150w means 50w is unused unless you have other devices plugged into it). That might add another 13w to my 52w bringing the power to the laptop up to 65w. Still would be a draw under full power use, but better. Unfortunately like most math, its impossible to get more out of something that just fundamentally can't do more than the laptop design. In terms of setup, there was none. Basically plug things in and go. The ONLY thing that I can stress is make sure you do NOT plug a power supply into your laptop in addition to the brick. Just understand that anything that needs power just goes against your power budget and live with that. My numbers above are for dual 4k monitors, the ethernet port, and two usb devices. The more you plug into it, the more it will draw prior to your laptop. But even with the max power supply, you can still get no more than 100w thru all the cables in total. If you have enough devices that you really do draw a lot of power externally on the dock, then maybe you need an independently powered dock. But then at that point you should know you are pulling a lot of power. My fourth one travels in my bag with me just in case I need a bunch of random ports. I know that there are much smaller dongles you can plug into your mac, but the dual monitor support (remember I'm a programmer) is the first and foremost reason I got this device. The dual 4k support is wonderful with 34" WQHD IPS monitor. This thing is just handy to have and "just works" without a lot of thought. ... show more
