Never had this happen before. I only use this product twice at 800°f and it cracked spilling all the metal in to my furnace.

I didn't expect these to last very long, but I read up on crucibles, used the preventative and pre-use measures the industry experts advise and I was mildly satisfied. I have three different sizes of these and have used all three for a total of about 16 firings. The one most used has probably got 4-5 more firings left in it if I am careful. Still learning how to use them efficiently, but the most used crucible I pre treated with borax at a higher temp. that what I am using it for and it seems the (glazing effect?) of the borax (sealed the pores?) of the crucible making it easier to pour the molten metal. Like I said, I'm still learning but if there is a downside to these it seems that the upper part of the crucible loses heat extremely fast just before a pour making the molten metal solidify quickly. Other than the tall shape of these crucibles I believe I can overcome the solidifying issue with a little more experimentation. For the money, quality and quick shipping I believe, so far, that these are well worth the price paid. ... show more

The item itself seems to work great. I traded it off to a friend since I had no use for it. He says it is as good as the the ones that he had for a while now. Just a side note as to why I bought it.... I had ordered it as a combined offer with a discount with an electric furnace. The furnace which shipped separate never arrived. I won't blame Amazon like others do for shipping issues. UPS/FedEx/USPS was the problem as normal. I guess in the end it was for the best. It would probably be one of those things you buy and use once. Then you find it later and ask yourself why you spent the money on that. ... show more

I thought if a bought the same brand crucible as my furnace that it would be the same quality of the crucible that came with my furnace. It is not. The crucible that came with my furnace was pristine-- not a single nick or scratch. As you can see from this image, this crucible is covered with them. I will not buy from this vendor again. There are no overt cracks that I can see, so, it might be safe for low temp melts with the nicks and scratches, but I seriously doubt this will last long.
