As a self-proclaimed hobby machinist, I did a lot of research to determine A) what DRO system I wanted B) respective scale sizes that will fit my mill. This was my first DRO install which resulted in ~10 working hours, but trust the process & enjoy a couple cold ones and you'll be okay. Hopefully the pictures & information below will serve as an aid in making your DRO purchase/install. SPECS USED - ENCO Model 100-1599 (49" x 9") -Longitudinal Travel (X): 35" - 37" Scale -Transverse Travel (Y): 12" - 14" Scale -Vertical Travel (Z): 16" - 18" Scale PROS: -Overall good quality scales/encoders/box -Numbers appear to accurate, but I will conduct further testing to verify -Quick shipping & good packaging -Great communication from seller CONS: -Hardware (socket cap screws, washer, brackets) is generic and could probably be disregarded -Manual is quite poor, rely on YouTube as a better reference -Shield covers are thin and don't allow for much room for mounting holes, but it's better than nothing TIPS: -Start with X, then Y, and finish with Z axis - Easiest -> Hardest -Use a digital level to estimate positioning before dialing in with indicator -Make sure you have plenty of hardware on hand! This includes nuts, bolts, taps, and various sized washers -Slightly & carefully ream ends of mounted hole to accept 1/4-20 bots (common & cheap to acquire) -I recommend custom brackets for Y & Z axis install, and baseplate for Z (depending on machine model) -Wait till the end to perform cable management. Use oversized P-clamps where slack is needed (Y & Z) ... show more

I installed this product on my Rockwell 21-100 3-axis milling machine. There are no installation instructions included, but "ToAuto" does offer an install video on YouTube. The guy in the install video made this seem like a "slam, bam, thank you mamm" install process. It's not. Had to make most of my own mounting hardware. The only hardware I used from the kit was the metric screws to mount the read heads, and 4 of the 6 "L" brackets, which all required being corrected to a 90° true angle. All the rest of the mounting hardware was of my own design. The "hardware" (flimsy plastic guides) that are intended to hold the read heads centered and in-place while installing the screws to the brackets leave a lot to be desired. They are flimsy and do not hold the read heads solidly while locking the read head to a bracket. The User Guide requires a fair amount of "WTF are they saying!" scrutiny. You can get a LOT more guidance from watching YouTube (recommend "Blondihacks") on how to use the device. This is NOT a rush install! Take your time... I took nearly 30 days for mine, but I'm retired and I have a LOT of time on my hands. At this point, I'm pleased with the performance and accuracy of the device. ... show more

I bought the 3 axis package for my Bridgeport. Mary and I had a brief discussion about the length of the encoders and the DRO arrived in about a week. It was exactly what we had agreed upon. The encoders had glass scales and were easy to install, the gaps and parallelism of the mount were very forgiving making it easy to get up and running. The readout has many features making things like bolt circles and hole patterns easy to program. The readouts are bright green and their intensity can be set from dim to very bright over 7 levels. I am planning to buy the 2 axis version to replace the Heidenhien DRO I currently have on my lathe and if you are in the market for a DRO, I would recommend this product as it is a good value for the money. ... show more

After using this DRO set for 6 weeks, the only fault I have is the manual. It is written in Chinglish. I had to combine bits from other online manuals to understand some of the DRO functions. There are no instructions for installing the scales, because every installation is unique. There are many included fasteners of different sizes. You won't use them all. I did not use the included mounting brackets. Made my own. The extra long 9 foot cables allow you to place them wherever you want. The selection of 3-scale sets offered on this listing are pre-packaged in China, if you need other sizes look at other listing. Longer scale are OK if there is room to mount them. Two of my scales are longer than needed. One scale I cut shorter. Yes you can shorten glass scales, but think it through before attempting. After carefully removing the very delicate thin glass, it scored with a simple glass cutter, then snapped easily. I'm happy with this purchase. ... show more

    • Can't beat it for the price!

Surprised at how fast this arrived. Ordered Monday received Saturday with xmas in between. Box arrived ok but hardware bags had split and screws were rattling around in the box. But overall I think packed quite well. No mounting instructions but not too hard to figure out. A dimensional drawing of scales would be nice. Mounted on a Bridgeport so brackets included were of no use to me. You will have to build a bracket or two for y and z just like on an exspensive setup. Fairly nice lightweight covers for the scales made of aluminum extrusion. WIll keep chips out but will get dinged if something hits them. Resolution can be set to either .0002 or 5 decimal places. Mounting arm for the DRO could be a bit longer. If you tighten the DRO brackets pretty good seems ok. So far I like the DRO features. Just like lots of imported stuff the grammer, syntax, and naming conventions in the DRO manual need work but not undechiperable. Unless you must have a name brand I can't see much wrong with the setup. ... show more
