  • Digital night vision that works Digital night vision that works
Watch review videos on YouTube for extended info. I've just received this unit today and immediately checked to see if the attachment actually fit a tactical bump helmet. The mount is actually well made but some what not well designed. The mount is adjusted by two nobs that tighten and loosen the arms that attach to the night vision unit. They work well enough but I'm worried about longevity. I've looked online to see if I could buy another mount but can't find one for sale. Enough about the mount time to talk about the actual view through it. At first it was blurry and no matter how I adjusted it, it never fully focused. Then I realized the front also moved to adjust and BOOM! Crystal clear picture. You can see good with ir off but with the ir light on you can make out fine details in things. Only thing that worries me is when I move sometimes I see a white flash. Its very quick almost unnoticeable until I really focused. It might be the ir light refocusing but I'm unsure. For now I'm super happy with this purchase. Be aware this is for right eye dominant. I'm not sure how well the mount will work flipped. Also the unit hanging off your helmet doesn't feel horrible just be sure to run good counter weights. I'll do a follow up when I've put more time and stress on the unit. ... show more

  • Works but not that good for a survival situation
I have purchased very expensive thermal and night vision devices so dropping down to this type unit needs adjusting my review to the price. For the price if this is all you can afford this is worth the purchase. I found very prolonged use is tough on the eyes so I suspect you would want to keep it flipped up unless needed. The other issue is you have to focus for the eye on one end and focus for the distance your looking at on the other. Once the eye focus is set you won't need to reset it but going from close to far viewing takes constant focusing. On the good side its great it connects to a helmet and it has IR settings. I would suggest getting the webbing to put a larger batter on the back to both balance the weight on the front and to give longer battery life. As far as seeing through dark trees I found it quite nice. Finally, if you can find a thermal priced about the same I would totally suggest getting that because it allows for a much quicker identification of animals and people. So in conclusion if this is all you can afford and want night vision this works quite well but its more difficult to identify things than the really good units. Good luck with your purchase ... show more

  • As close as you can get to nods for the price
Using this for airsoft. It's not a real night vision optic, it's a camera. I knew this when buying it because actual night vision is super expensive because of how complex it is to make. I don't even understand half of the science that is used to make real NVGs work. So moving forward, we will refer to these as Digital Night Vision (DNVGs) I hear people complain about other DNVGs that there's a delay with what you see versus what actually happens, but with these, that delay is negligible. I'm guessing the actual camera is built really well with high quality. The biggest thing to consider is that you probably won't be using this to it's full potential when you're moving. You'll have one eye looking thru this and the other exposed to the real world lighting. You'll mainly use this for spotting targets. I recommend pairing this with an IR laser since looking thru even a reflex sight with these can be a bit difficult. It also takes a lot of practice to get used to them so train, train, train and get good with them. This offers an IR light that's attached to the apparatus next to the lens, with an adjustable brightness, however, even when you think it's turned off, it's actually still on but at a very low setting, this helps if there's barely any outside lighting, which you will rely on (real NVGs do too) someone with real NVGs looking at you will see a glowing light on you, so it's going to give away your position if your opponent is using DNVGs or NVGs, however you can easily just kick the IR light to it's maximum setting to blind them, whilst still being able to see in total darkness. All in all, these won't help you be stealthy, they won't work like you expect NVGs to, but you'll be able to see in the dark better. ... show more

  • Incredible! Best budget NV money can buy!! Incredible! Best budget NV money can buy!!
If you're looking for night vision under $1,500 look no further! This thing absolutely kicks a$$. The picture is crystal clear and focus is a twist knob on the front of the unit. The directions are actually really good and walk you through just about everything minus how to record on your phone. I found a video on YouTube and figured it out after that it was a breeze. It connects to your phone through wifi. You do have to download an app called B1MCAM which is free. After that turn wifi on in the settings on the unit then go to the wifi settings on your phone and it'll show up as a new device. Pair it to your phone (it'll ask for the password which is 12345678) and once you're connected it will say something like your phone is connected to this device but it's not providing internet. As soon as that's all set open the app and start recording! I took a quick video it to show how well it recorded. Sure there's little things I could nitpick like the mount isn't the greatest and I had to do some figuring out to the recording thing to work but why? It's 400 bucks and totally works awesome. Can't wait to get an ir laser and do some plinking with this bad boy! ... show more

  • Ok but not great
I am a little disappointed with this thing. I test flew it last night in my yard and it didn't perform to the level I had hoped. There was no moon but it was still light enough that I could see somewhat with my naked eye. Not detail but could still see grass, a gate to a chicken pen about 60 feet away, my barn, etc. I tried this device without illuminator activated and most of what appeared was just a grey washed out field. I could detect my trailer about 50 feet away PARTIALLY. I couldn't see the chicken gate and everything up to that point was just grey and featureless. I could see the horizon vs sky in the distance and looking up could see stars fairly well. My disappointment is that I thought if I can see something with my naked eye, even at low detail and without dark adaptation, then this should too. Nope. I then turned on the illuminator and that worked pretty well, decent at low level (IR 1) and much better and more distant at higher levels (IR 2 and 3) though you will blast out the detector with overexposure if there are any bushes or a house wall close by and looked towards. The lag isn't nearly as bad as I thought it might be so I didn't have issues walking and turning fairly quickly, or looking around. In the end it is fine for property patrol or camping and looking about in the dark but if you intend this for something like airsoft you will be screwed if anyone else has these, anything like it, or actual night vision equipment because you will have to use the illuminator outside of good moonlight and EVERYONE will see your spotlight from distance. Just keep that in mind. If I had the cash I would opt for a Sionic Opsin (half the price of actual night vision gear and orders of magnitude better than this with much MUCH more capability to "see in the dark"). Maybe in a couple years... This device will suffice for basic use. I haven't figured out how to connect to the built-in wifi yet. The instructions are severely lacking in that department except beyond "turn on wifi and connect with phone". They should create an app specifically to work with this thing because NONE I have tried have worked. Keep in mind, grey or green, this will wash out your viewing eye because it is fairly bright even dimmed down. I would like to have a red color option to help protect the viewing eye from having its night vision totally blown away. OH YEAH...initial turn on requires a calibration for the compass to work properly. I have found that spinning it on all three axes 2 or 3 times speeds this calibration up. UPDATE NOTE. - their firmware could use an update for at least 2 issues: 1. The IR off/on and power level indicator is wrong. IR Off means the 940nm illuminator comes on in dark situations. It is very faint and diffuse so it works OK indoors or in confined spaces but is useless in the open. "On" means totally off. Then there are the power levels that refer to how bright the 850nm illuminator is. Off should mean OFF and On should refer to 940nm and the levels remain as they are for the 850nm light; and 2. The automatic gain control system is wonky. I discovered accidently that when it is dark out like I described above and cannot really see better than my eye, if I reflect a little of the 940 illuminator light back into the primary optic lense by putting a finger or hand in front to reflect the light back, it causes the gain to switch and suddenly I CAN see a good amount better than naked eye without a full moon! Move my hand or finger out of the way and the image goes back to almost unable to see anything. The 940nm illuminator is NOT bright enough by itself to work outdoors in low light except VERY close. I've purchased an independent IR flashlight (torch) with a 940nm LED light in it and it works very well. It's superior to using the built-in illuminator especially with a rifle or pistol. The built-in illuminator is below the objective lense and blasts into your rifle rail and site, overwhelming the CMOS so you can't see beyond the rifle or pistol site which is washed out so you cannot see the reticle. With a separate IR torch you can mount it on your head or helmet well above your weapon OR mount it on your rifle and be able to see to distance and see your weapon optic reticle or laser. Once more about the automatic gain system of this device: I tested the NV device by looking out my bedroom window into my backyard at night with IR "off" meaning built-in 940 nm light turns on. Couldn't see much of anything with the device (naked eye could barely make out my yard). I then turned on my separate 940 nm torch and could easily see beyond 50 yards in bright detail. I then directed the torch down to the floor in my room so reflected IR light entered the device and the automatic gain reset so i could see pretty well out to distance outside without direct illumination, similar to what I described above with the built-in illuminator. Too bad there isn't a gain control setting available so we could set gain ourselves. This device would work a LOT better even without an illuminator if we could. ... show more

  • Worth the money! Worth the money!
Pros 1 It actually views the same depth as your natural eye so you have accurate depth perception. I can focus on the same thing with both eyes at the same time. 2 You can turn on and off the IR light so you won’t be blinding other people with NVG on when IR is not needed like under a full moon. And you won’t look like a bright beacon in a middle of an open field to someone else using NV. 3 You can adjust the brightness of the IR light. 1, 2 or 3 4 It auto adjusts for the brightness when you look at something bright or the ambient light is bright and then it goes dark and then back again. 5 The brightness of the screen can be adjusted. So if you want to preserve your cones and rods you can. 6 It does have digital zoom 1x/2x/4x/6x 7 You can record what the camera see’s if you connect your phone to it via WiFi and download the app. 8 You can have black and white screen or green and black screen to carry out your childish dreams of being a Navy seal like in a 1990’s movie. 9 It says it is water proof. I don’t plan on testing it but at least I know I can swe 10 The housing and the included helmet mount is all metal 11 Mounts on to helmet pretty sturdily, no wiggle in it and it has a wide range of adjustments Cons 1 It has limited field of view. Wish it had a fish eye lens so you could have more peripheral vision 2 It does not have auto focus. You have to turn the dial on the lens to focus on things farther or closer to you. 3 I can’t get it to record in zoom mode. 4 You can’t record if you lock your phone screen and probably if you exit the app 5 The tightening handles kinda get in the way of itself while cranking down on them but not that big of a deal ... show more

  • Easy to use
So i received them last week, and last night was the first time i had the chance to use them. I had never used NV before, although I have been wanting to. Since I was a novice i was afraid I would have some problems, but they were relatively easy to use. They are built well, and the perfect weight. I went to a field behind my house, and was surprised by the clarity of the monocular. I was able to see clearly for 50 yards, possibly further and was able to see animals . These would be ideal to use for night hunting, or any operation where night vision is required. ... show more

  • Solid NVG for the money. An EASY buy. Solid NVG for the money. An EASY buy.
I’ve been messing with this for about a week and I gotta say I’m impressed. I’ll start with the bad: 1. The mount is sketchy. Super tiny thread screws, feels cheap, but so far it does its job. 2. Figuring out how to get it to work right took a bit. 3. There’s a calibration process that takes about 2-3 minutes. It’ll turn right on and work, but it does a lot of blinking and flashing. It makes you think it’s malfunctioning. But after a while a text appears that says “calibration complete” and it works way better. 4. Because it’s a digital unit there’s a tiny bit of latency. If you look quickly left to right for instance, you’ll notice the digital lag. That’s literally all the bad. Here’s the good: 1. You can see in the freaking dark. It really works! 2. It has an IR illuminator that definitely works. Has three brightness settings. If you push and hold the right button IR turns on, keep pushing to cycle brightness settings. 3. It has a zoom function. While IR is on (after pushing and holding the right button) press the left button to zoom in. You can cycle through 4 settings up to 6x! 4. You can do a white phosphorous or green. Turn IR off, and push the right button to cycle between the colors. I bought the recommended airsoft bump helmet with the NV mount for this. Right at $400 for the whole rig. And I gotta say I’m REALLY impressed. Between the green or white color options, the IR illumination, and the zoom settings this thing is VERY functional. It’s difficult to navigate indoors and in tight spaces, but outdoors, hallways, doorways, bigger rooms - it’s a game changer. It allows you to see in extreme low light. Plus the ability to zoom in and look at something close up is awesome. You can even rotate the front lens to REALLY get a clear picture. I was outside and saw something about 80 yards away. I maxed the illumination, and zoomed in 6x and saw it was a dog. Super clear picture. Paired with an IR laser this will be awesome. Keep in mind this is kinda obviously intended for your right eye. You could set it up for the left, but it would be awkward. But overall, this is straight up night vision without spending 4 mortgage payments. ... show more
