This unit seems fine. I'm no lock expert so couldn't tell you what components to really look at, but the unit was easy to set the combo and everything works smoothly. It includes a clip to attach to your seat tube but I didn't bother with it because the cable is short enough to just wrap around under my seat without it being in the way. That said, glad I went with the 4ft length. I usually keep my bike in a garage but wanted this to park on the street for quick errands around town (Denver) and such. You'd probably want a u-lock type if you intend to keep your rig on the streets all the time, but you also probably know this already. One gripe was the product had a strong plastic off-gassing that was noticeable for a couple weeks (still kind of smell it if it's closer to my face). Since it's for outdoor use I'm not too worried about it, but it's a strong and persistent enough odor I wouldn't feel comfortable using or storing this in my home for any length of time. ... show more

    • Great locks but a bit cumbersome to work with

I purchased 2 of these bike locks for our young kids so they can have the option of riding their bikes to school. The programmable lock works great and it's a necessity that we can program it to something the kids can easily remember. They were also able to just keep the locks under the handlebars of their small bikes, wrapped around the bar when not in use. So far so good. In actual use, both kids found it a bit difficult to maneuver them around their bikes and the bike stand and getting it to lock and unlock effectively. That's not so much to say the locks aren't well made; they are. It's just it takes getting used to and both kids were frustrated initially, with the lock always want to coil and the "key" not always pulling out or going in as easily as you might expect. Eventually they figure it out, maybe with a little help sometimes. Just wish it was easier for them to do on their own, but that will certainly come with time and practice. ... show more

Got it for my son for his bike I've that it has a place to latch and lock your on your bike while riding so you don't have to worry if you for got it or not Then they can use and makes it really easier to put back up

We purchased this lock to use for our bicycles for a bike event in our area. We followed the instructions, set the combination numbers to four numbers that we chose, and tested it by locking and unlocking it several times. Yesterday we used the lock to actually lock our bikes. Before putting the lock through the bike rack and around our bikes, we tested it one more time and it worked correctly. We then proceeded to lock our bikes together. When it came time to unlock the bikes, the combination that we chose all of a sudden did not work. No, we did not forget the combination numbers that we chose; the combination that we chose is one that we could not and would not forget. We tried several times to turn the dial to other numbers and then tried our combination again. It did not work. You can imagine our frustration as the bike event was going to start and we could not unlock our bikes. Luckily a fellow biker had a pair of wire snips. It took about five minutes to slowly cut through the outer layer of plastic and then the wire inside it. We were able to participate in the bicycle event, but had no lock to secure our bicycles. Not sure what happened, but I would definitely not recommend this lock to anyone for this reason. ... show more
