I don't know what it is, but I've really struggled finding decent, comfortable, *well-fitting* socks lately. It seems like I can find socks that fit my foot well but are too tight on my calf, or they stretch enough for my calf but are too tight on my foot (note: I am diabetic and don't light socks that are too tight on my foot & toes). These socks have come the closest to 5 stars that I've found in quite some time. They are perfect on my feet, not too tight or too loose, and they're nice and warm. The lost a star because they seem to have a ring of material at the very top that's a little too tight on my calf if I pull them up all the way (but they won't stay up if they're not pulled all the way up). They've survived one wash & wear cycle and remain in great shape. I'll probably order a few more pairs if these hold up a few more weeks. They feel awesome on my feet - not too tight, not too lose - the perfect amount of stretch. They feel good on my calf, except for the very top of the sock - it feels like there's a ring of material that's not as stretchy if I try to pull them up all the way and is uncomfortable ... show more

I wear a 9.5 and according to the sizing chart that is a large. They are far too large for a 9.5 shoe. They are thick, warm and comfortable with a low/mid calf height. I fear their size chart just spans too many sizes.
