  • Great for beginners and learning to lay beads!!
Overall it works, the only feedback here and is not documented anywhere. The gas port is a push on nozzle, so I had to cut off the end of the gas gauge screw on fitting, heat up the tube and press it on. Not sure why they don't make a screw on. The pedal and torch trigger is off/on, not variable to control amps. But can't expect that for the price. The instructions are very poor. If you aren't familar with welding already, you may find it tough to follow along. There are very few youtube videos on this. The pros - It has a post gas dial for x seconds of gas flow. This is great. The price is amazing. It also does stick. For the price and doing small jobs with steel up to 16 gauge, up to 1/8 or 3/16 possibly (non structural) this is a great welder. Note: You will need to buy a bottle and fill it at your local gas welder supply. Plan on at least another $250 for the bottle, and $80 for it to be filled. So a bit of upfront cost. ... show more

  • Very nice little machine! Does not weld aluminum though...
I didn't really listen to the other reviews very well... You cannot get a satisfactory weld on aluminum with this machine. DC Tig is just not the right technology. For everything but aluminum however, this machine is great. It is really nice quality and lightweight. You will need a bunch of things to get started - tank of gas, regulator, tungsten electrode, and filler rod. I also bought the cheap foot pedal and it works just fine - just on/off though. The other thing I learned is that the arc seems much brighter than MIG welding and I needed a darker setting on my helmet. ... show more

  • Great for beginners and hobbyists.
Had this a couple years now and it still works well. Haven't purchased the foot pedal, as a few user reviews state that it's on/off only and cannot be used to adjust amperage. Issues to date: Tig button retention clip was the first part to fall off, followed by the button itself. The ground clamp melted after a couple minutes tig welding at 150 amps and the torch lead got too hot to handle fairly quickly. Once the torch gets hot it tends to rotate in the handle while welding. When using 110V, the amperage display reads higher than the actual output. Reads correctly using 220v. I've used this to tig stainless (.060 316L tubing and up to 1/4" plate); tig mild steel (20ga up to 1/4" plate); and stick welding mild steel (10ga up to 1/4" plate). Some reviews say this can weld 3/8", but I'd say you could run even thicker (beveled) material by stacking stringers over an open root with a good preheat. I've used 1/16" up to 1/8" 7018, 7024, 7010, 6010, and 6011 rods and they all work well, although 1/8" 10 and 11 rods almost need to be used with 220V to get the extra voltage necessary for arc stability, imo. It's been a good welder for the price. Other than a couple of minor things, it's held up pretty well. Only giving 4 stars because of above issues and that the product pics mislead some buyers into thinking this is an ac/dc welder when it's just dc. ... show more

  • Really impressed with this little rig
I’m pretty blown away by this little rig. I got it for a few little exhaust fabrication projects on my rally bikes. I really didn’t even shop around or read reviews I just pulled the trigger on one and it was here in just a few days. First off: the quality of the machine is pretty impressive. I didn’t expect the fit and finish to be as good as it was. I’m also impressed by the fact that it has post flow settings and an automatic gas flow on/off What surprised me even more is that this isn’t a strike start welder, it’s not a lift start welder, it’s a high frequency start welder. I thought that feature was reserved for high end machines, yet here it is on a $197 Chinese welder. It’s a super nice feature which allows you to keep your tungsten much cleaner than with strike start. I made two modifications to this machine: 1) the 3/32 tungsten holder was more like 1/16, so my fresh 3/32nd tungsten (not included) didn’t fit. I had to grab my 3/32 drill bit and drill it out, not a big deal 2) I moved the high frequency start button to a more ergonomic position for my style of welding. That’s not the fault of the machine, just my preference. Overall this is a great machine if you want to learn how to tig weld, or if you have a few projects you need to knock out. I’m very happy so far and will update this review if anything changes. Note: tungsten, argon, regulator, and welding helmet not included. You will need to plan to get an argon tank which is anywhere from $80-180 for a hobbyist plus a fill. Enjoy! Update: it’s been at least 6 months now and the welder is still going strong for my occasional projects. I really cannot think of anything negative to say about this little rig, it has been flawless. ... show more

  • What's that smell?
Using the tig function to weld a rollcage. Machine has plenty of power. A little too much power for the tig torch. Unit is rated at 85% duty cycle which was very surprising. I was only using at maybe 20% and I started smelling burning rubber or plastic. I found that it was the smoke coming from the tig torch hose. So I pointed a fan at the hose and dropped back to about 10% duty cycle and took more breaks. I plan on upgrading the tig torch. Another minor complaint which I read before purchase is the argon connection is a 5/16 hose barb on the back of the machine. Luckily I keep a pile of fittings and stuff and was able to make something work. Third little complaint is the machine needs some pre-flow for argon. The post flow function works great though. Overall I like the machine so far and do not regret my purchase at all. ... show more

  • Not bad for the price
It’s not a bad little welder for what it is for small jobs that you have but you have to remember what you’re getting for the price It’s not a Miller or a Hobart or a Lincoln but it works. So far. Durability has yet to be determined FYI, I’ve been working maintenance for 30+ years and have TIG welded quite a bit of stainless steel in a food factory with Miller and an old Hobart welder this is not a top-tier welder, but it does seem to make a good starter ... show more
