I researched this welder (comparing it to other Tig welders) for over a year. Any large purchase, such as this, I take very seriously and don't want to have buyers remorse, if/when I can avoid it. The biggest point in this review is to tell you, YES, THIS WELDER IS WORTH IT, after a month-ish of owning it, I can now say that I do not have buyers remorse and have been very happy with it. I have put it through 3 full argon tanks of welding (without any argon leaks). One of the worries I had, prior to purchase, was that I would have an issue and wouldn't be able to get decent customer service. I purchased myself this welder so I could teach myself to Tig weld. One Sunday night I ran into an issue, it was total operator error and my fault, and pulled up the website for primeweld, and input my information in to receive customer service. I knew that it was a weekend, they were closed, and expected an email (hopefully) in the next 24-48 hours. The next day, Monday, my phone rang at 7am (central time). I accidentally answered, thought it was a telemarketer, and hung up. An hour later, the same number called. It was the primeweld customer service rep, who was repeatedly attempting to reach me, to resolve the issue I wrote them about. I explained it was my own error, and apologized for wasting their time, and they were super nice and understanding. They had every reason to give up contacting me after I hung up on them (unknowingly). They tried, and most people would have given up at that moment. This guy/company DOES WHAT IT TAKES TO TAKE CARE OF HIS CUSTOMERS, EVEN AFTER SELLING THE ITEM. TLDR-the primeweld customer service is fantastic. Like I said, I've been teaching/taught myself how to Tig weld (have not done stick welding with it). I have done steel and aluminum, 1/8" down to 22gauge. The machine and it's abilities far surpass my own current abilities, and I have a feeling it'll be a number of years until I'm close to outgrowing this welder. I've been so happy and impressed with the process of Tig welding, and the actual welder itself, I highly doubt I will ever use my mig welder again. The first Tig project I did, to learn, was building the cart that it's sitting on in the picture. It's held together great. This welder has definitely helped me, making it easier to learn Tig welding than machines with confusing menus. I haven't ran into an adjustment I needed but didn't have. Oh, THIS WELDER INCLUDES AN ACTUAL INSTRUCTION MANUAL. it's not just an assembly instruction, it gives specific detailed information (57 pages) for people that are clueless and learning, like I was, and I was able to successfully teach myself to Tig weld steel and aluminum using the provided manual and google/YouTube. I included a picture of the manual with the review. I wasn't paid for this review, I wasn't given a discount for it, I spent my own money and paid full price. I'm serious when I say that I don't currently have a complaint about this welder. I'm genuinely impressed and overall happy with this, and would 100% purchase again if I could go back.

I have been stick and wire feed welding for a couple of years, but this is the first tig welder that I have bought. There is a ton of hype about this machine online and from everything I have seen so far it delivers. It comes with almost everything you need to get going besides filler material and shielding gas. Pretty cool that it comes with a CK 17 torch too. I have run it some on 120 volts and it welds fine, but once you go near the max amperage for 120 volts it trips a breaker for me. I have a dedicated heavy duty 20amp 120V outlet, which it was plugged in to at the time. Primeweld does note in the manual that you need a 30amp breaker to run on 120. But not a big deal at all because I always run it off 240 with a 50amp breaker. I’ve gone through a bottle and a half of argon (175cf tank) since I have had it. Welds aluminum great as well as steel. I haven’t gotten to any SS yet, but I hope to. I have stick welded quite a bit on this machine too. Mine easily runs 6010 no problem. I have also run 7018, 7024, 6011 and 6013. The manual only talks about it running 6013, but I think they are just trying to be conservative and not overstate things; especially when skill levels vary. Anyways, yeah for the price, it is phenomenal. The foot pedal is super robust too, but it also comes with a switch for hand control as well. The only negatives I can think of are that it does not do lift tig, which isn’t that big of a deal at all for me and the ground clamp isn’t great, but its far from the worst. I replaced the ground clamp the same day to a much more robust one. If you’re doing tons of stick I would replace the stinger too. It’s not the greatest, but again not the worst.

PrimeWeld 225x 225 amp AC DC Pulse TIG/Stick welder Chris, Springfield, MO I received the new welder on the 18th of April. I bought this welder because the power is greater and the control is better than the other welders in this price category. I looked at other machines that cost much more and most of them did not have the adjustability of this machine. The machines that I found with most of the adjustability were in the $1500 to $2500 range or higher for the American made machines. I looked at the digital machines and decided I did not want to learn a new language again. Memorizing instructions (push this button three times and then that button twice then the button under the other setting once for this and a fourth button two more times) is not user friendly to me. I have tested this welder on mild steel in DC mode and found it to be a very good machine. The material I used was 3/16th flat and angle. The flat butt welds showed very good penetration and smooth consistency. The fillet welds were clean and strong. The duty cycle is 40% and the machine did not overload at any time during my testing. I did have several welds that were 5-6 minutes or longer on 3/16th aluminum tread-plate. I did one very long weld with the aluminum and the welder did not balk at all. As for TIG welding in general it is so versatile that a little investigation and knowledge can go a long way to overcome challenges. I believe that this will be a very good welder for anyone with a little experience welding; for those without any experience I would suggest getting together with someone who has at least a little experience for a little help. The internet is a very good place to get the information you will need to make the learning curve shorter. That is not to say that you have to have experience, only that depending on your ability to work things out by yourself it can be challenging. I have been a DIY’er for many, many years and I can tell you that TIG welding is not something most people can do perfectly at first try. In this realm it truly is practice that makes perfect. I haven’t done any TIG welding for more than 40 years and it is like learning to weld all over again. And it is still fun. This welder will give you everything you need to do the average welding jobs found in art, middle manufacturing and most anything around the house. I am giving this welder 5 stars; not because it is perfect, (though it is top of the line), but because I believe it is by far the best you can get for the money. The customer service is better than I have seen at many companies. I am sure Mike will bend over backwards to be the best in your mind as well. This has just about every feature that you can expect from a TIG welder. Pulse, AC, DC, high energy start. Pre and Post weld settings. It comes with both a 4Touch finger trigger and a 2Touch peddle. First time using a 4T trigger and may be my go-to controller. Haven't even used the peddle yet. The CK17 flex torch is high quality and considering the cost of package it is a double plus. It comes with a small starter pack of consumables. Aftermarket consumables for the torch are cheap and easy to find with the exception of the CK17 heat shield. Apparently it is unique to the CK17 torch and you can only to buy it from CK which makes it expensive. I could not find one aftermarket but I will keep looking. It all works well and the controls are well laid out. One small gripe: The labels on the controls and settings are really hard to read, impossible in low light. A hobbyist or a small shop will not outgrow this machine. One thing is they do recommend a 50amp 220v circuit and a 30 amp 110v circuit. Might not be right for a high volume, 8hour a day welding shop but it may survive for a couple of years. But you could buy three for the price of a Lincoln or Miller of similar capability. Manuals have a lot of information and are surprisingly good for a machine in this price range. It has the feel of a quality machine and it comes with a 3 year warranty. For the price this is an amazing machine.

This is my second Tig welding machine. My first, a $5K Miller, was so complex I grew frustrated trying to figure out the endless parameters of the machine and thusly the appearance of my aluminum work. This Primeweld 225x had me laying down very nice beads on aluminum lap, butt & fillet welds the second day of use...actually the first but some time was spent on familiarizing myself with different settings, Argon flow, pulse, etc. The CK flex head torch is very nice as is the ground clamp but I can see the benefits of going to a stubby conversion for closer work. I was apprehensive at first about the foot pedal but after spending time with it I like it. Immediate arc start and good let-off at the end of the weld. Good argon pre & post flow settings really helps. I have not used the included finger control or arc welding stinger although they seem a good quality. The owners manual is excellent! Very clear and concise with much helpful information on settings for both aluminum & Stainless steel. The amperage on the high end is good on 3/16" and 1/4" alum. Producing very satisfactory results. Welding vertical was easier than anticipated and results better than expected for first attempts. All in all I am extremely happy with machine especially after the rocket science PHD needed for my previous machine. I have two aluminum boats used in saltwater fishing & crabbing and the modifications needed are far too expensive to farm out so home-fab is a must. If you are looking to learn the Tig process this machine will fit the bill and not break the bank doing it. There are a lot of helpful Youtube videos on this welder as well that help during initial set up and operation and as I said, the owners manual is actually very useful and well done. For the money I don't believe you can do much better.

I started welding back in March when I was ordered to work from home due to the COVID 19 Crisis. I decided I wanted to learn to weld. First I got a Mig Welder, then got an Amico CTS180 (great plasma cutter and DC Tig for the money) but I wanted to move into aluminum tig welding. After doing a lot of research I came across a video for this welder that was posted on YouTube by The Fabricator Series that gave it great reviews. It was in my price range so I ordered it and have been very very happy. The unit is packed like a tank for shipping so even though my box had some scuffs and scrapes there was no damage to the unit or its accessories. The unit comes with a genuine CK17 flex head torch. The lead for the torch is very very flexible which makes keeping the proper torch angle much easier. Some early reviews of this welder are critical of the pedal but the pedal has been upgraded and works great. I also did some stick welding on DC using 6010, 6011, 6013, and 7018 rods and on AC using 6011AC and 7018AC rods and it did a great job. The setup isn't as easy as with higher tech welder that have automatic settings but I have actually enjoyed practicing with different settings to see how different settings change the characteristics of a weld. I've had the welder 1 week today and am on my 3rd 40 cu ft tank of Argon so thats about 8 hours of welding so far with no issues other than those that were self inflicted. Also in the videos I've seen the welder sounds super loud but it's actually not as loud as the videos had led me to believe it would be. The only downsides that I've noticed are that the clamp is pretty thin but works fine and they could have kept the mask that came with it and not hurt my feelings. I'm attaching some shots of practice beads for reference. The longest piece pictured is actually .04 thick aluminum to show how well this unit works on very thin materials. I used to hate AC Aluminum, even with the nice millers at the community college, it always made me dread welding aluminum. This is not the case with the PrimeWeld 225; the AC arc is like butter, it sounds so crisp and clean. I can honestly say I'm addicted to welding aluminum with this inverter based machine. This TIG welder is what I've been dreaming about, because this black machine with grey & yellow lettering really delivers. I saw a reviewer comparing the Primeweld 225's AC to Miller Dynasty & some Lincoln and their is no difference in weld appearance. I love Miller, but i can't afford it. Not to mention it comes with my favorite torch, the CK Worldwide 17 flex head torch. It's such a high quality torch, the braiding on the lines is phenomenal. One of the best parts of this good deal. And with this machine you can weld in AC with a sharp tungsten and it doesn't tend to ball(with the correct settings). I take very good care of my PrimeWeld and CK torch, i cover it with a welder cover so no metal filings or debris will get in the vents and internals. I also keep the beautiful torch in its box when not using. This is good practice to keep your welder in clean and working order. Like another reviewer said on here, the DC operation is nothing to write home about, it works pretty good but it's not as special as their beautiful AC inverter technology. I find AC so much more clean and smooth than DC, but that might just be because the AC arc is like a dream come true. 6061 is so much fun with the PRimeWeld. I can't wait to try stainless steel or 4130. I was afraid it broke just this afternoon, outta the blue, when before it was welding like butter... I Instantly called up the Primeweld service number and to my surprise they immediately answered, talked to a nice guy who referred me to their head engineer, Mike, who is really informative and extremely helpful. The only problem was the gas was not flowing and I checked everything and did everything Mike told me, but finally realized it was only operator error this time.. My heavy welding table caster somehow had rolled over the black argon feed line, without my knowledge, and was preventing any gas from being purged(the regulator ball wasn't moving). I love this welder and extremely impressed with it. Very happy and LUCKY there is a company like PrimeWeld out here taking care of us poor TIG welders. I would buy this welder 50 times over.
