Comes out of the box smelling like rich oiled leather, which of course it is. At 200$ I’d say it’s a good boot, it is more fashion first utility second, but it strikes a good enough balance. The features it’s missing are usually in boots that are more expensive, like a Red Wing Iron Ranger. That boot is going to be more durable, but it’s not as good looking. That said I’m not worried about durability. I know this is a boot made more for fashion, so I don’t plan on working it to hard. First purchase of boots from any company, did a bunch of research and watched online reviews and rankings of boots and decided to pull the trigger on Thursday Boot Company's Captain boots. I initially ordered the brandy boots in my true size (12) and returned them because they were too large. When I re-ordered, I decided to go with the Arizona Adobe and 11.5 and the boots both look and fit great. I wore them to a conference with jeans and a blazer and it they were a perfect combination for a more formal business casual look. I plan to wear these with both jeans and suits and I am very happy with my purchase. The boots are comfortable, fit well in having sized down half a size and appear to be well-constructed through and through. Much better quality leather than I thought it would be at this price, no obvious flaws. Leather grain in a few spots is a little off but that's to be expected. Fits a little loose in my standard size, but not too much. Great for thick socks in winter. I got the Captain in glossy black and they look good with chinos and slacks as a winter dress boot. Extremely comfortable even with my Fred Flintstone feet. I ordered the wide width boot and I was very surprised it was just that. I can't get over how soft this boot is, practically no breaking in period and they look great on too. I'm sold on this company and I will be purchasing my products from them in the future. I am very pleased with these boots, they are very comfortable and look fantastic. I use them daily at work and they have been great replacements for cheap department store shoes I had been buying yearly. The leather looks great and it is very cool having a handmade item. I would recommend sizing down 0.5 from the smallest shoe that you wear. I'm normally a 12 or 11.5, but the 11.5 boot was too bag, whereas the 11 is great. I probably could have even gone down to a 10.5. Great boots, will probably get another pair to rotate with soon! ... show more

I'm my picture I have converse (9), Thursday (8), Bullboxer (9), Timberland (9.5), and Kodiak (9.5), notice that the Thursday's are a full US size to size and a half smaller than the others and still compare to their size. Initially I ordered a 9 and it was waayy too large so I had to return for a full US size down. Oddly the packaging for the 9 was an unmarked box while the 8s came in a marked box with individually bagged shoes. Also note that these are rather thin walled compared to the more insulated work boots so there's more room in the boot for your feet. Don't get me wrong, the leather is plenty thick and feels and smells amazing and soft. I ordered dark olive matte but in most soft to neutral light, it appears very dark brown. In bright daylight there is a very minor tinge of dark green, but very subtle. In the picture, I have it with dark grey pants. Cons: the part I hate the most is the non removable insert. Theses are some of the nicest boots I’ve gotten for a reasonable price. They have a nice weight to them but not excessive. The leather is a great quality and they seem pretty durable. I wouldn’t call them waterproof but they are definitely water resistant. The color was darker than I expected but was still great looking. These boots are the GOAT! Comfortable, durable and the only way water gets in is through my legs. I got them in matte black, and they go with dress trousers or jeans. Construction looks very solid and the soles are very sturdy. Follow the instructions on how to select the correct size (they said 1/2 size less of your normal sneakers.
