Ferrari of baitrunners in my opinion , own 3 and by far the best of all I've tried . Simple fresh water rinse after saltwater / sand exposure and greasing up every year which shimano offers free is unbeatable . This is a really nice reel in every way. I've been using Shimano 6000 series reels for many years and wanted something a bit bigger, without making the jump to a reel that you would expect to see on a surf rod. The Shimano Thunnus is now my go-to reel for striped bass fishing from the shore.

Had this reel for 2 years, used less than 10 times. Really liked the reel initially, but while fishing last week live lining bunker for striper, my only bite of the day hooked up with a 20-25lb fish. 3rd crank on handle and it snapped off. Handle was not under stress compared to what the reel is made for. Emailed Shimano and they want me to pay $20 shipping each way, $25 to look at the reel (up to 3 weeks once received) then they will quote me a price to repair. I CAN BUY A NEW HANDLE ASSEMBLY FOR $57!!! Not satisfied with reliability of the reel or customer service. Will no longer buy Shimano’s products. ... show more

pro: light weight, seem solid on hand, loud bait runner ( helpful when fishing at night ) cons: baitrunner switch broke after a dozen usage. ( cant reel in fish ) same thing happen on my Spinfisher 4500LL, weird how brand name product fail, n while my okuma took more abuse but still last
