I'm really impressed with this flashlight. The fit & finish are top notch. The threads are super smooth. The light is very bright with a fair amount of throw. Lots of extras in the box, too, including a sheath, lanyard, extra o-rings, etc. It feels very solid in the hand. My only minor gripe is I'd prefer to lose the charging port on the light body and put it on the battery itself to increase it's waterproof ability. I have had my eye on this light for a few months and finally saw a deal that was just too good to pass up, so i finally bought it. To start with, this light looks awesome, the desert tan color is one of my favorites. The fit and finish is perfect no imperfections in the color or texturing. The texturing is nice and grippy without being too aggressive. I took off the strike bezel because it's too sharp for Every Day Carry, but if I was in law enforcement I would probably leave it on. It comes with a pocket clip and a holster so you have 2 options for carrying it. Its not a deep carry pocket clip but maybe it was made that way so its easier to grab and pull out of the pocket. The user interface is pretty easy to use. The tailcap switch is for quick access to turbo (2523 lumens) If you hold the side switch down for several seconds you get firefly mode (.54 lumens) A single click with the side switch will turn on the light. Then hold the side switch down to choose between low (33 lumens), medium (350 lumens), high (1426 lumens). Triple click the side switch to get to the strobe setting. This light has everything I want in an edc light. The fast tail switch turbo setting from the tailcap is a must, and the lower settings with longer runtimes are great for tasks like finding something that fell out of your vehicle, or something in a bag. I really like this flashlight. I use it 4-5 days per week, for unarmed security work. I like that the cap button gives you instant access to the brightest beam, without having to click through half a dozen options. If you need brightness in a hurry, just click! The other options being available with the side button, three fast clicks for strobe, a couple of low power settings for map reading, and regular "high" mode. The finish is coming off a bit after 3 months of wear, but I don't care about that. I had to loctite the toothy bezel in place as it kept unscrewing itself, and I had to chase it across a parking lot once. I use the light regularly though out my 10+ hour night shifts but I don't really know Exactly how long the light is actually on. I rarely use it for more than a few minutes at a time, but I use it a lot. Regardless, the battery has never died on me before I could recharge it. The body gets hot Very quickly at full power. Nice in cold weather, but it limits the usefulness of turbo mode since if it overheats it will throttle the power down to regular high mode. All in all, for the price it's durable, I love not having to purchase batteries weekly, and it's very bright. If I lose mine, I'll order another just like it immediately.     • Super bright, possible battery issue......
I've had this light for a few months now with daily use. As far as usefulness goes it has been awesome. A piece of advice is when you carry it in your pocket, using the clip, be sure that the clip is on in a way that the flashlight wont turn on in your pocket by way of the button on the side of it. Not only will it use up battery but it will warm your pocket and leg quite alot. Now, everything has been kosher up to now. I noticed the day before yesterday that after a full charge I would active turbo mode and the light would step down its output after a few seconds. I thought it odd but didn't really think too much into it. Yesterday I went to use it and then everything went bad. Upon turning the light on, whether in turbo or not, it would come on, suddenly dim the light to an almost blue color and shut off. All within a few seconds time. Now today, after a charge the light is not functional. This is pretty disappointing. Now this may very well be a battery problem. So I will be buying a new battery and seeing what happens. The ThruNite BSS V4 is marketed as a “tactical” light, thus it’s quite aggressive (removable) strike bezel and the setup of the rear pushbutton to activate only the “turbo” setting to provide the top “blinding” light. My main intended use is for photographic light painting. The cylindrical design allows for a homemade sliding “snoot” to control the shape of the light, and the screw on red filter allows me to replace the red disk with a photographic color temperature acetate gel. So far it seems to work well. The low and medium settings are ideal for my purposes. Even the Firefly extremely low output allows for examination of camera and remote shutter release settings in the dark. One should be aware that both the High and Turbo settings only provide full output for about two minutes. It charges in about 4 hours with the included usb cable and port on the light. It looks good and the ribbed design provides a solid grip. Update: I would like to add a positive experience with ThruNite customer service. Responding to my request they supplied two additional screw on filter holders. After substituting CT gels for the red filters, I can now quickly and easily change colors just by screwing on another filter. This works well for my photographic purposes.
