I wear a US Men's 9 in all shoes and when I tried these Thorogood black moc toes on, they were the right size, no issues. The 9 1/2 was way too long in the toe, so I ordered the black 9's. They arrived VERY stiff, so I rubbed 3 coats of Bick 4 Leather Conditioner into the boots and wore them around the house. The conditioner can be rubbed in with a finger, wait till dry, then buff off with a soft cloth, but it absorbed quite a bit to help soften the leather. Build quality is incredible, as these are my first USA-made work boots, but I did notice some minor sole burrs left by the sanding that I had to pick off by hand, but no big deal. Break-in is going well in day 2, but I am noticing, like other reviewers, that the stitch between the bottom two eyelets, and the bottom eyelet, is pretty harsh on the top of my foot, but seems to be slowly relaxing with wear. Overall, I'm really impressed with the quality and I'll update again after break-in. My break-in period will be two weeks, particularly focusing on that bottom eyelet and heavy stitching in that area. Around the house wear using two pairs of thick trail socks and more conditioner and I’ll give an update. Break-in Update after Two Weeks: Two weeks of wearing the boots around the house over two thick pairs of trail socks and 5 coats of Bick 4 leather conditioner and I can say that the initial toe knuckle-crushing pain of the bottom eyelets and stitches has subsided into a minor annoyance over a single pair of thick trail socks now. I'm confident I can wear them out to the grocery store or mall and not constantly be focusing on foot pain. The bottom eyelet area pressure is still there, but the rest of the boot is fitting like a glove and I'll probably start wearing them outside now. I'd say that if you're in the same boat as I am with the initial crushing pressure of that bottom eyelet and thick-stitched area, you may want to consider the wide version of the boot, or dedicate yourself to the break-in period with plenty of leather conditioner and mega-heavy socks. Break-in Update after Three Weeks: Wearing the boots out this past week over one pair of thick boot socks has been great with the bottom eyelet/stitching pressure almost completely gone. I could wear these all day out around town now with no discomfort. They fit my feet like a leather foot glove now. Really very nice. Two-year Update: Bought in December 2021 and now it's December 2023 (almost) and the boots are holding up very well. Still look great, especially after scrubbing the white side soles and scraping off the suds with a spoon. Clean again. Boots are easy to clean and condition with the Bick 4 conditioner. I wear them casually with jeans, so can't speak to how they hold up to physical work. Laces fraying a bit at this point, but the leather and stitching still holding up really well and still wearing them over thick LL Bean boot socks is nice and comfy.

Pretty long rant, skip to bottom for pros and cons. I've have always wanted a pair of these boots. In the beginning of my construction career, going on 15 years, I was always told by my Journeymen to buy good boots. Being young and cheap, I couldn't wrap my head around spending hundreds of dollars on boots. As I advanced through the years it made more and more sense. I felt guilty for buying imported boots, as if we don't support foreign companies enough. Last year I tried to buy American made Redwings pull ons but they began to separate after a week and I had to switch them to Made in Cambodia Redwings, as they would do exchange but not refund. So trying to support our own workers only to give over 320 bucks for foreign made boots. My local boot stores only carried maybe 3 styles of American made boots so not much selection at all. I would spend hours looking and trying on boots. I have worn Wolverines, Craftsman die-hards, Timberland pro, Lugz and Keens. My go to for the last 5 years were the Timberland pro boondocks. They are comfy and at 200 bucks a pop not the cheapest. I prefer boots that are waterproof, composite toe, and protected toe. I decided to never wear sneakers again and to only wear boots, so these are my casual boots. Pros: 1. American Union made, spend it where you earned it. 2. Damn good looking, timeless design. 3. They come in waterproof, but these are not. 4. Comfy after two days of wearing. 5. Returnable through Amazon if you get the wrong size 6. True to size 7. Tread doesn't hold dirt and grime 8: Supporting my Union Brothers and Sisters. Cons: 1. Kinda narrow, I got the EE and I'm no fred flintstone, but as long as your feet aren't hanging over the foot bed you should be alright. 2. Based on reviews, I was scared I would get some lopsided monstrosity 3. Even with prime, it took over a week to receive. 4. Tongue is big and if your not careful can crease or bunch up. Be deliberate when you tie them. I would suggest checking the stitching for consistency on each boot. Check the height of each boot. Check the back stitching. Check the eyelets for even-ness, over the top view. If the slight bulge on the top of your big toe hurts, take out the insole and after a week or two, put it back in. Wear thick socks or two for initial break in. Overall I would suggest these boots. Absolute beauty of a boot. These will replace my sneakers outside of work. When my Redwings die, I will buy these for work but until then, I feel good about these boots and putting my money back into this country and it's workers. God bless America.

I thought I wanted Redwings. I was wrong. This is my second pair after 4 years with the original ones I got in Black before they were readily available. I got them secondhand from a guy in Texas for whom they were too small. I paid much more than the Amazon price even then. Sizing is the same as any American made boot. Don't use your made in China running shoe size. Fit is great, the leather will last. The only change I'd love to see is a premium line with leather lining instead of the cotton drill one that wears out in a few months. It's well attached to the leather so it doesn't drape or catch your foot once it's got holes in it like some other vintage leather boots I've owned. I'd pay a premium for leather lining. As is these boots are a steal. The only reason for replacing mine after 4 years of daily wear was because I wore the soles out. My new pair has the Maxwear wedge sole, not the Vibrams as in the photos and that my old pair had. I'm hoping to get more wear out of these than the originals as a result. Even if I don't it's worth it, since resoling my original pair was quoted at $90+. For $30 more I get brand new boots. I cut the flags off mine, I know they're US made and I like the original Thorogood look (pretty unchanged since 1960. I've since sold three of my buddies on Thorogoods and each has 2-3 pairs now. We're in a vintage motorcycle club together and these boots are perfect. I high side crashed my 1966 Triumph custom last January wearing these boots. Sprained my left ankle, but walked away from the crash in my Thorogoods. Didn't know that it was sprained. The boots suffered some scuffs on the soles and the leather uppers, but took the abuse very well and protected me as well as I could expect. Like I said, I wore them for another year plus with no problems. I think I'll be getting a brown pair when they're on sale again. I love my Thorogoods. Don't change a thing! (except perhaps add the Premium offering I described)

First, I am an 11W, and I ordered my actual size. The fit is good, but was a little tight in the toe box. At one week the leather had molded to my feet and this is no longer an issue. The leather itself is ball glove soft, and without any noticeable cuts. The stitching is tight and consistent. The tongue is very thin and more of a gusset than a tongue, but the boot easily laces without bunching up. The insole is soft and the wedge sole makes for a comfortable step. I received what looks like a return, based on dirt on one of the soles and undone laces, but otherwise they look new. Initially one looked tobacco and the other looked like it is Apache brown. If not, they were at least different enough for other people to notice (first thing my wife said). I treated the leather and they are identical now. I have a couple other comparable brands, and these are my favorites. Very comfortable now, and probably already my favorite boot. I did take out the gel insoles and put leather insoles from Nicks, which I bought here on Amazon. I added kilties and they are even more comfortable.

So i've given these a few weeks now and feel like i can write an honest and fair review. I guess i'll basically be comparing these to my experiences with my first pair of 'real' boots; a beautifully broken in and well worn 3+ year old pair of Red Wing 9106's. Out of the box these look great, not quite as refined looking as Red Wing's but i knew that getting into this so wasn't disappointed there. These are, after all, supposed to be work boots. They fit maybe just a tiny bit bigger than RW heritage line stuff does but nothing major, i sized as i would have for RW's and all seems fine. Fit and finish is very nice for a boot of this price range, that said these ain't no Red Wings. Stitches started coming loose on day two, nothing major but still a few here and a few there. The rubber midsole looks kinda cheesy to me (you can barely see it but it's there and noticeable). There is a weird bump under the left boot from one of the lace eyelets that just won't go down no matter what i try and is quite uncomfortable. The toe is much more boxy and way less stylish than the RW version. The laces are falling apart already because of the sharp edge of the speed-lace eyelets. The speed-lace eyelets themselves are a point of contention with me as it's actually kind of a pain to tie the boots, it takes an act of contortion-ism to get them to stay tight without slipping out of the speed-lace eyelets. One set of speed-lace eyelets at the top would have been more than sufficient but instead they give you three with an actual closed eyelet above, which just seems silly. I actually fumble quite a bit getting them tied properly. I'm sure i'll get used to this minor issue but worth mentioning. This one is hard to explain and almost more visceral in nature but they just don't feel the same as RW's to me. My RW's, even after week two, felt like a perfectly fitting glove around my foot, it was an unmistakable feeling and i looked forward to lacing my boots up and conversely didn't want to take them off at the end of a 12+ hour day..these just don't deliver in that department the same way, it's purely personal and you may find that you prefer the feel of the Thorogood's on your feet. And the last issue would be that to me the leather just doesn't look nearly as beautiful and rich as RW's leather does. One thing that may give these a major leg up on the RW competition is with the sole. It is some kind of new proprietary material that Throrogood has apparently developed. They claim it will last 4-5 times that of the previous sole, that like RW's, just doesn't last long enough if you work around metal chips or walk on concrete all day. Another big plus is these come with an insole, unlike RW's, then again it may not be a nice one..time will tell. All in all I can't complain though, they are very nice boots and for the price you really can't beat them. I got them combined with a 20% off coupon that Amazon was offering so they were $120 or so shipped to my door, next day. You can't buy USED RW's for $120! All things considered they are really nice American made work boots and i imagine that if i take care of them they should last at least a solid year, maybe two. In summary: my Thorogood purchase is not disappointing in any way it's just hard not to compare every pair of boots you put on to RW's once you know that feeling. If your painfully style conscious and these are for more than just work (and you have the extra loot) i say go with RW's, hands down. However, if you need a sturdy pair of American made work boots that still look very nice and price has stopped you before then go with these.

Very comfortable, real easy break in. I bought some kelties from dales leather goods, which pretty much eliminates any eyelet rub that some people complained about, and applied a light coat of mink oil when I got them, so that probably made the break in period almost immediate. I would say near to or as comfortable as my timberland boondocks. But these are lighter, and better suited to indoor work. I also wear tread lab insoles for my arches, bought a new pair of those to put in. Pretty much by day two these boots felt broke in. Liked them so much after a few weeks that I bought another pair for outside of work. So I'm not dragging any metal chips home. Very impressed with the thorogoods. Thought about red wings but the great number of terrible reviews on red wings site, as well as keen. That and the fact that these are made in the US sold me on these. Glad I chose them I can't speak to how quickly they'll break in if you don't wear kelties with them, but can assure you that you'll like these boots, your feet will thank you. For reference I'm a toolmaker and spend most my day on cement floors.

This is my first pair of American made work boots in 24 years of warehousing. I've had many many brands and styles of boots over the years, often going through two pairs a year. Always having to buy inserts and constantlly glueing soles back together. I figured I would fork out the extra cash for this thorogood and my goodness i.got.what I paid for. Right out of the box it was evident that this boot screams quality. The leather is thick, smooth and tough. The stitches are perfect and welted soles and really nice. On my third day of wearing, breaking in process going well and my feet do not hurt. This is the real deal, as no other Timberlands, Carhartt, Cat, Carolina, Georgia, wolverine or Doc Martin has ever had this kind of quality feel. If you like this style of boot, and have had the boots I've listed before thinking they are the best... You ain't seen a real boot till you get ahold of these Thorogood Moc's. True to size, comfortable and made her by us with quality components. I have just ventured in to the heavyweight class of boots! **UPDATE** After a solid month of wearing this boot I must say my feet, knees and lower back are killing me. What started out great has simply wreaked havoc since. The leather is breaking in well, however there are "points" on each boot outside the first set of loops where the stitching is stiff, created terrible terrible pain just above my big toe and little pinky toe. No matter how thick I my socks are they still hurt. On the other front... I'm on my fourth different pair of insoles, as none of them have helped my listed above pains. It's no doubt that the materials used to make this boot are of high quality, however I'm starting to think this style( or this certain boot) is not a good fit for me personally. I have never had this much pain in my life! Its to the point to where I have had swollen inflamed ankles and knees, never before have I had anything like this with any other brand of boots. Right now I am eating the cost of these and have temporarily gone back to my old Cat boots until funds allow for another pair, probably Cats... At a lower cost and pillow like feel. Again, great quality and looks awesome, just isn't meant for my feet. Would I buy from thorogood again? Yes, but I'd try a standard round toe boot... Just not right now. Disappointed it wasn't a good fit for my feet. This isn't a question of did I need "wides" or a size "larger"... No the size 9 is true to size... Sizing isn't the problem.

I've had these just under a year now. It took about 3 weeks for them to get broken in, but it was worth it. For the first 2 weeks, they were a little uncomfortable. Very rigid and stiff. The 3rd week they started to feel a little flexible, and it's been better every week since. These are hands-down the most comfortable moc-toe boots I've worn. I work in the commercial electrical industry and put these boots through vigorous situations and weather conditions. The laces are tough and durable yet easy to tie. They cinch down and stay tight most of the day. The leather is quality and does get scuffed (as excepted) but I clean them up every two weeks with a care kit and they look nearly brand new again till I wreck them at work again. After nearly a year of hard use, I can tell these boots will last. Certainly, worth the extra money it takes for this quality if you wear boots for work. I think I'll be a Thorogood fan for life. Great boots!
